Fitting a solid wood worktop in a DIY self built campervan.

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

This is how we have fitted our solid wood work top in our self built campervan. Very excited as we are really starting to make some progress now that we are getting the kitchen unit in. We've since had the our relay (boxer/ducato) weighed so stay tuned for an update on that in a later video.

    This is just a suggestion: if the hob has been a few centimeters lower, you could have been able to add hinges to the counter top section you cut to provide space for the hob and install it over. That would provide a flat and continuous counter top.

  • @campervibe

    @campervibe

    4 жыл бұрын

    I did think about it but the manual says I have to have clearance, which makes sense as the side of the flame would only be a few inches from the cut side of the worktop. To get round that I'd have to have a meta edging which I wouldn't like. Thetford make a lovely built in one with its own hinged lid but they are all so deep and we wanted a narrow kitchen. It seems there is always a compromise to be had when building a van lol! Thank you for watching 😁

    I've just binge-watched all of your build series and I have to say it's looking fantastic, and I love your eye for detail; it's going to look lush once all the "dressy" bits are in. One thing I've noticed is that you say you get annoyed by squeaks, rattles and repetitive noises (I totally empathise by the way)..... Keep in mind that the weight on that retractable hose will keep bumping on the wall/cabinet back as you are driving. It might pay to staple a bit of old carpet underlay (or similar) to the wall while you have the chance ;-) Keep up the good work; can't wait to see the next upload :-) :-)

    i work in one of the amazon fulfilment centres where i live and i agree with you that that amount of packaging is too much but there is a reason for it from what i saw it was packed wrong the item should have been centred in the box because after it is packed it is placed on a conveyor and sent to sorting and that is a violent fast process and so we are told to use larger boxes to protect the item

    Looking good! Did you have to worry about splintering on this when cutting it? I've seen people talk about cutting wood upside down, using masking tape like yourself, or even cutting it face side up but using blades with the teeth facing downwards. Not sure if this applies so much to solid wood worktops (even with staves) as it can be sanded smooth very easily?

  • @campervibe

    @campervibe

    4 жыл бұрын

    Thank you 😁 it wasn't too bad actually, cutting it upside down does help especially if you are going to use a jigsaw. A router would give you the best cut but it's a lot more work. I would always consider the splintering with any wood as they can all behave differently.
