Brilliant, just started fishing again after about 20 years. Last box was a Watercraft one with the old hexagon shaped Octoplus legs and attachments. Went for the Inception 3D as I pleasure fish so covers all my needs. Added the screw tops to a couple of the legs, wheel kit for transport and cover for protection.

Great video thank you, I have the Westlake box as my first ever seat box of this type, my foot plate slides into the bottom and fixes with tightening wheels. It also comes with detachable wheels for moving about and a handle to pull it along that doubles as a rod rest. The box its self is extremely well built and caters for my general fishing needs. Like this video, I fish all types of methods not just pole. The negative for me is the weight, it is really heavy. Unless i am fishing 10 feet from the car i would always need to use the wheels provided. These slide into slots from the underside of the frame. It is also quite difficult to steer using the handle and the 2 pump up wheels provided, it often tips over violently on uneven ground, there seems to be a balance issue in the design. Another issue is when you arrive at your swim, you need to lay the whole unit on its back to remove the wheels before set up. I can hear my tackle falling about the the draws while taking the wheels off. While this box is built like a tank and will last a very long time, I may start to look for a lighter option that I can through over my should and carry.

Hi, yes i totally agree, the westlake bok is just avarage compared to the other manufacturers. Like you daid there is an issue with the weight and having to tip it up to get the wheels of. Anyone looking for a buget box... I personally wouldn't recommend these westlake boxes, for a few extra quid go for the matrix or the inception range by preston.... Better by far.

You can buy 30mm threaded inserts for the top of the legs for screwing attachments to the top of the legs on preston boxes 👍

Thanks for spending time doing these reviews. I've followed the same path as you. I've used a Westlake for 18 months and since bought the Inception 3D 150. I do not think that the PI is better quality with its cheap plastic tray system & flimsy footplate v's the robust aluminium Westlake trays & footplate, but the PI does gives more 'add-on' replacement tray options. With the PI, you also have to carry the fixed large tray everywhere, even when you want to travel light (which you omitted), although you did point out that may take off the broken unit on the Westlake to travel light. There is something I believe to be incorrect in your claims about the PI box being lighter. Around 9:30 in your review, you claim that the PI is lighter than the Westlake, which is not true. My Westlake is 12.9kg and the PI is 14.5kg. Please check yourself. Keep up the good reviews!

I have the inception too SL30 box 2020 love it but the only problem I have with it which is disappointing is it doesn't have the under seat shallow winder compartment like yours does had to by an add on drawer to put my winders in but looks waisted space underneath but a great box.

I looked at a lot of boxes just to find the one that suited all the needs for every bit of angling . So large storage for reels then drawers for feeder and float. And the wonder section. There isnt many that can take a bit of everything but I think the new diawa d90 isn't far off.

I purchased the preston inception station and struggling to get a deep tray which is also one of the things I like on a box ,also you touched on the magloks I had exactly same problem first time I used it but fortunately got some spares through ebay and benwick sports tackle

I've found I can force my matrix sections on to the Westlake. Its not a perfect fit but a spacer worked to get a deeper tray. I've also been thinking if another brand 30mm Tele legs would work.

My mate tried this too and broke it when opening it. They are too delicate to play around with. My mate ended up buying a 2nd box and selling parts off on ebay as spares. He kept the 2nd set of extending legs. He still has the 150mm base unit and the footplate that he's going to list on ebay for sixty squid each if anyone's interested? Seems about the going rates on other makes (that are available)! The problem with the hinge 'loop' that breaks is that it's part of the whole corner (bonded from top to bottom of the tray) and nobody sells them! They don't seam easily repairable like the clasp hinges. I can't see why other makes of 30mm leg would not work?

@@Adam-hr7vs I had a matrix shallow tray. I took the base out which basically made it a matrix spacer. I had to loosen the corners but it worked fine, although it's a bit loose. As the seatbox is just for my kid I've got rid of all the storage now anyway except the seat section and its all actually quite light. We store it with legs detached and put it together at the peg. Tippex marks for the general height. More telescopic would be great but not sure its worth it considering the price ending up heading towards how much the seatbox cost in the first place :-) I'm thinking of finding some 30mm pipe holders to hold the legs when not in use.

Good review. With the Westlake could you remove the deep base section and then just have the tray and drawer attached. I’m looking for a cheap canal stool type setup.

Hi. I can't remember exactly as I no longer have the box but I don't think you can.. I believe they have got some other versions of the box cheaper but not sure. Wish I could be of more help. Otherwise for a small canal box maybe look at the matrix p25. 🎣

I find the legs are too far apart from the box on the preston 3D ,,,so if you have shorter arms, u feel like your streching too reach over to the Bait trays and pole socks...

Can’t believe Prestons don’t have the screws on top of the legs. Personally, I would go for the Matrix S25.

I agree the screw in leg tops would of been a benifit. And It was a toss up between matrix and preston. I opted for the Preston due to amount of space in the box and the layout. . but the matrix is just as good if not better in some ways.

are the legs solid or hollow? I'm sure it wouldn't be too much bother to put a nut insert in or thread a hole

Yes the legs are hollow and since this video was made I have inserted screw tops in the legs as Preston do make them for the boxes. It's not to hard to do and gives the box an added dynamic.

Nice vid - thanks! I'm also looking to update my Westlake and wondered after 2 years of your Preston, do you have an updates please? I read a review and noted the following. Seat hard & material cracks after 2 years. Can't remove the big/heavy base tray to travel light, no threaded legs, footplate flimsy compare to solid Westlake, footplate won't retract for the final 2" due to knobs in the way. Can you please confirm/deny the above. Any other issues with it please? By the way, you don't need a bungee to hold up the Westlake footplate up. When folded, the platform legs sit horizontal directly above the front seatbox legs. Anglers will likely have a platform leg accessory fitting (eg; pole sock, keepnet quick-fit etc) that will hook behind the top of the front leg of the box and stop the platform falling.

Hi. Thanks for the comment. Many of your concerns with the Preston are valid. The seat I would say is still comfortable but not on a par with the new MAP seats . Cannot remove the base tray... I looked into that too for lightening the load. I put thread caps in the legs myself and that wasn't hard but wish it came already equipped. As for solidness and problems with the box itself. None. Nothing has broken or bent . With my heavy handedness that's a surprise . Still a good box for the money and the amount of accessories you can get. I do believe if you can push to the absolute it would be even better . But if the price bracket is the the Preston 3D 150. Then do look or try the MAP h frames and the matrix as well. All have their pros and cons.

@@fishingbitesandbanter293 Thanks for the quick reply. I've looked at the MAP but you don't seem to get much tray space (probably why it's lite)! You'd have to upgrade £150+ on trays to get the 3D 150 spec! On the Preston you get more drawer space, a winder tray & a base tray. The MAP revolving knuckles fix the platform packing away issue but the frame looks too wide for the box. Why so wide? I couldn't topple over a box sideways if I tried! Coupled with silly short short legs you'd have a stretch to reach your bait tray. I'm no designer but you'd think that if the average angler can see all this at a glance - why can't the tackle design experts and all their pro sponsors see it? It seems that I'm looking for a seat box with the least design flaws!
