Thanks, Stonecat!. I cannot recall if the Dace are more eaten by humans--or are they more food for other fish??

Hi Sandra. Dace are not eaten by people except on the Continent, though they were eaten in the past. We divide our freshwater fish into two categories, game fish and coarse fish. This latter aren't normally eaten here in Britain, though I've eaten some periodically over the years. All can be eaten, but generally coarse fish are returned to the water, whereas game fish - salmon, trout, char are more likely to be eaten. Pike eat dace and they can be used as bait to catch them, dead or alive.

Thats a clonker mate , bigger than any iv had out the canal, if your in the area, me and Andy outdoors are doing an overnighter in penny coed woods Monday night, probably up the gwernant end .

Just read your post mate. Did you do an overnighter in the woods? As you know, the dace is only a small fish. The British rod caught record is only 1Ib 5ozs 2 dr. I've seen dace in the canal that would smash that weight. A new British record is waiting to be caught in that canal :)

haha I know im going to keep trying, iv been on the pirch all winter . yes it was just me in the end and god didn't we have some weather over that 24hrs haha.
