Fishing Cats : Masters of the Water | Big Cats | BBC Earth
Үй жануарлары мен аңдар
Fishing cats are well adapted to water; with wet suit-like fur coats and webbed feet, they are masters of aquatics. This means fish are on the menu, but these kittens might need a bit more practice before fending for themselves.

The one and only genuine catfish.
I would like to give a huge thanks to all those people who are involved in capturing such amazing videos and publishing them to people watching them at home. How fascinating is the fact that there are people involved who are putting efforts in putting cameras and themselves with huge lenses in the conditions, only to capture movie like moments in such a high quality. Then, the editors also putting efforts to compile into such beautiful journeys and stories. Thanks a lot to such Photographers, Videographers, Cinematographers, Video Editors, etc 👏👏👏

I totally agree! You worded it perfectly👏 It’s because of people like them, that give us humans insight into ever-elusive animal’s lives. They educate and teach us so that we can go forward with the information and understanding of why we need to protect them. 🙏 I thank them for every millisecond of film… (especially what they were able to capture of the snow leopards. They’re my favorite animal because of their film/documentaries). I know it’s not easy to get to these places, hike wherever, track the animals, sleep, wait, watch, and film. But they do it and I so appreciate it! 🎥 🎞️🩶

@@kellyrobar8517 Sorry but that's such a stupid comment. Humans are objectively the most intelligent animal, and there's no obligation to take care of other species - we just do it because we want to. You don't see dolphins or chimps deciding to save other species from extinction do you?
The babies are sooo adorable! Our team got on camera other adorable big cats, baby snow leopards! Snow leopards are rarely caught on camera because it isn’t easy to film at an altitude of 5,000m, but our camera crew in the Himalayas did just that. Their footage of a snow leopard mom and her two cubs gives unique insights into these mysterious animals’ lives.

Those kittens are so adorable! 🥰
Fishing Cats are awesome. They're basically only found in Sri Lanka and the greater Indian subcontinent, southern tropical regions. Very endangered by habit loss from massive urban sprawl and human population density where they naturally reside. They also used to be killed by local fisherman out of frustration they were eating the fish and tall tales about attacking people. Some non-profit organizations go into small towns and villages adjacent to wetlands and forests to educate the locals on preservation, coexistence and that they pose no danger to humans. If I recall correctly they were recently protected in Sri Lanka as well. It would be a terrible shame to lose such a unique and relatively unknown animal.
I love BBC Earth! I’m awed as to how they’re able to capture these amazing videos!
They are so cute ❤
They are beautiful cats 🐈😻❤
"Mom, look I caught a camera"
So much work put behind this and I get to see it all for free.
Amazing photography and audio! I enjoyed the sound of the mother cat's rumbling encouraging purrs and the kitten mews, both sounds being very familiar to me. The Fishing Cats"wetsuit" under their outer fur, the way the kittens took to the water, the perfect fish capture are so cool and fascinating. Thank you for sharing this!
I love Fishing Cats, but they are not easy to keep as pets, like how we keep normal house cats, in our home. They are bigger in size, which is somewhere between a house cat and a leopard. But they look so beautiful.😊❤

The purring at 1:27 😻😻😻
Fishing cat, beautiful creature... More like a bob cat but a bit slimmer and agile fish hunters, loved the kittens pulling the plant out of the water 🤗😁
I thought he was gon’ catch him a big o dang Cat Fish ma’en 😂❤
Smart kittens, catching some vegetables to go with the fish.
Good kitty
Those floating plants are water hyacinths, native to South America. They've been introduced around the world where they've become invasive disruptors of wetland ecologies as well as serious nuisances to human activities. But they have pretty flowers, right?
Fantastic photography and the microphone even picked the purring of the kits at the waters edge. Good old BBC.
My favorite animal, love these guys.
Watching these wildlife documentaries amazes me. Cats are said to dislike water but fishing cats. So sure-footed and fast
Beautiful ferocious cat
Seeing a cat fish, is a lot different than a seeing a catfish.

i wonder how do they film these kind of footage ?????😮😮😮😮 ...really awesome efforts to the entire team
Kittens are, kittens do. Mother's voice, first ever time personally, sounds... say, bizarre, making a unique contrast to that of mom cheetah like a bird chirrup!
Thank you for such amazing images.
I thought it was just a title. There really is a cat named fishing cat. Here is a paragraph from Wikipedia article: The fishing cat (Prionailurus viverrinus) is a medium-sized wild cat of South and Southeast Asia. Since 2016, it is listed as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List. Fishing cat populations are threatened by destruction of wetlands and have declined severely over the last decade. The fishing cat lives foremost in the vicinity of wetlands, along rivers, streams, oxbow lakes, in swamps, and mangroves. The fishing cat is the state animal of West Bengal.

They are rare animal and their poppulation plummet now due to habitat loss by transformation to agricutural area or accommodation zone.
Give a kitten a fish, they'll eat for a day. Teach a kitten to fish, and they'll terrorize the water plants... lol

Why do most wild cats have round pupils while all domesticated house cats have vertical slits for pupils?

@@wxbrainiac When you say I "should look it up", I have invested some time in trying to do so. The best I could ever get is why we still have tabby cats even when their parents are not tabby's. I was hoping for a quick answer from someone in the know when it came to the eyes. Also, if a cat with round pupils breads with a domesticated cat with slit pupils...what do the pupils of the offspring look like?

@@FishHeadSalad yeah its a cloudy subject with not much info a few sources I read said it had to do with what parts of the cats vision is blurry and domesticated cats not needing to seeing a large area so they instead only focus on what's directly in front of them it's hard to say what the real answer to your question is but it sure is an interesting topic
