Fisher Panda PROBLEMS? - SwT 178 - HOW TO DESTROY A GOOD BASE ENGINE
This is how I manage to keep my Fisher Panda running even in remote places. Im sharing my secret tricks, and even revealing the 7 issues responsible for the 4 most common problems with a fisher panda 8000i generator. It’s a significant difference solving problems in a remote place, than being in a marina.
Two times in the past I have been told by service tech they needed to replace expensive parts for between 1500 and 2000 US Dollars. Im showing you this is wrong, and even why not those who supposed to be experts understands whats going on. I have saved thousands of dollars understanding my Fisher Panda. The main problem is in the software!
I have lived with this machine for 6 years now, sharing valuable knowledge and experience with you for free. The software issues with a Fisher Panda 8000i are to blame for most of your problems. The random and totally false error code are not making things easier, as trouble shooting imaginary problems this machine is serving you often gives you wrong ideas.
Watching this video will save you money if you own a Fisher Panda Generator, and even understand more than every single tech person I have had onboard. Stop throwing money over board paying for service and parts you dont need.
80 percent of the Panda problems are easy to solve. As the cliche yet true, still 20 percent stands for 100 percent of the problems. This is even true with a Fisher Panda Generator. And the software problems is the real problem.
I could named this video 7 reasons for not buying a Fisher Panda. But I guess only one of the reasons I share here should be enough to stay away.

I have never seen a good review for Fisher Panda. Everyone that has used them say they are unreliable and customer service is very bad. This is a great video demonstrating the problems.

I would forward a copy of this video to Fischer Panda along with an invoice for payment. Sadly, from their webpage, I see a large military section. Government contracts keep many bad businesses open for business from those contracts alone. What doesn't kill us makes us stronger. You underestimate your knowledge and skills. Thanks for sharing.

Hello Thomas I understand your frustration with Panda, personally I would be furious with such a poor product, (if you can call panda a product) because the price does not reflect the quality they deliver. In Denmark, a Fischer Panda Generator 8000i PMS Variable speed costs DK 147,800.00. I find that price on par with robbery in broad daylight.
Thomas, considering all the time, effort and money you have put into keep that panda running you should probably consider just replacing it with something completely different.
Thomas, hold on for one more year with that animal. A little birdie told me that Yanmar is coming out with a small DC generator! It’ll charge your lithium batteries beautifully!

Thanks for this informative video. I purchased a used 8K, got it delivered and no compression. Seller refunded all my money, but it cost me $700 to find out the problem. Found a vendor that remanufacures the Kubota z482 engine, sent it in for rebuild. No joy, the crank was disintegrated and blocked cracked from prior owner overheat. Vendor ordered a new engine from Kubota for less than the rebuild price. I’ll keep you apprised as we head to Mexico with it. I ordered 2 spare pumps, 4 impellers. Have you found a replacement fuel pump other than Panda? BTW, if i could fit another make of generator on the boat i would, but the space was designed specifically for the Panda😢

Hi Thomas, I always watch/sub, your channel. I have to jump in here and tell you what I think about a couple things I just saw, 1st thing is that POS glass filter, you need to float check that (throw it over the side and see if it floats). Those are garbage and always leak, sometimes they come apart and make a mess. 2nd is how you mounted the electric pump, it's too high above the engine, try to find a spot lower than the fuel intake on the Kubota. Your electrical issues I won't speak to as they're all different. Good luck, keep the faith 🍀

FP is an excercise in how to make a genset way more complicated than what it needs to be. We threw ours overboard and never looked back. At least with genset and lithium you can setup a high current / low run time charging scenario... 😊
Sounds like they could hire a real mechanic like you to make a real genset, unless they are actually in the business of producing anchors 😅.
Thomas the fuel pump for your Panda looks like an oversized fuel pump for what we say in Norway for a Chinese Diesel heater, and should have the fuel numbers on the pump, how many milliliters per stroke. Anyway, Happy sailing from Stavanger

Bernard Moitessier needed to save his soul and sail to Tahiti. You need to save your soul and get rid of that Panda.
Electric diesel pumps need to be at the fuel source and preferably at same level they do not pull fuel they push it

I agree but a minor leak in fuel lines will knock them out with air. No fuel leak but air kills pumps. Has problems and had to replace my fuel lines then no problems.
I don't think I'll be buying one of these, ever. The 7 minutes I watched was good info. I hope it helps those in need but I don't think this cideo will be going viral :p

Thomas, just throw that piece of junk in the scrap-heap where it belongs. As for after-sales service and customer care, it is fairly obvious the manufacturer cannot even spell 'service' much less provide any. A simple 5.5hp Honda site-generator will provide all your generator requirements. . . . thanks for exposing the charlatans who knowingly supply inferior components to customers.

Nope that will get you the error code "sensor X not found or defective" I tried that.
That is atrocious. I won't be getting a Panda diesel generator. I have a 20 year old Generac Wheelhouse 5500 gasoline (air cooled) generator that never gives me trouble. Just give it oil and gas and it returns lots of electrical power, noise, and fumes.
Never...never buy a Fisher Panda, this problematic genset in marine market.
The simple trick is do maintenance and the Panda will take care of you.
