Every citizen in the magic kingdoms _knows_ that sorcerers are pure evil. Genies, magicians, fairies, God mothers, but sorcerers?? The scum of magic society

Two great things 1: When the princess wishes for jafars happiness he not only gets it by scherrezad coming back to him but also being remembered well by the citizens. Also the kingdom was sent into a third golden age and saved, everyone remembers the golden rule he always put forward, and his problem with corrupt sultans and socioeconomic inequalities was also fixed. Everything he wanted he got. 2) Aladdin being the old man we see at the beginning of the Disney film Aladdin is smart because that’s implying this is the canon, what really happened and what the Disney movie shows us is Aladdin switching the roles around to make himself the good guy, which we can also assume happens to every other Disney villain because of the titular song twisted, when they all appear. It really was jafars turn to do good and have his story be corrupted after.

Sorry, I think your second point kind of contradicts your first one. The thing is, Aladdin being the merchant at the beginning of the Disney movie and retelling the story his perspective actually makes out J'afar to be the bad guy and no one will ever know what he sacrificed. He is not remembered well by the citizens.

@@rkah6187 But that story is told from the point of view of aladdin (According to this headcanon). Being well remembered by the citizenry in general doesn't mean that every individual has to like you.

Two bits of trivia: 1) the song about subliminal messages includes a bunch of references to allegedly lewd drawings in Disney movies (SEX written in leaves in Lion King, phallic tower and priest boner in Little Mermaid, etc). The princess correctly debunks them all. 2. Act 2 includes a set of lines copied straight from the final episode of the Death Note anime (dubbed).

The "tiger fucker" gag is also a great little extension of the theme of people's stories becoming warped into something completely different from the truth. So much love and passion went into making Twisted. The thoughtful lyrics, the insane number of Disney references crammed into the script, the balancing act between comedic and dramatic tones, the spot-on delivery of pretty much every line by every character, the musical composition and instrumentation, just... All of it. It really feels like every single person who contributed to making this musical had a great time, and that enthusiasm is so infectious.

Firebringer and Trail to Oregon are Starkid musts. Firebringer is about mans discovery of fire. Trail to Oregon is based off of the old educational video game that most Americans played when they were younger.

The girl playing Princess, Rachael Soglin, is so amazing. She is an absolute chameleon. She's only in two other shows, Trail To Oregon and Firebringer, and in all three she is so completely different. Trail and Firebringer are both very worth watching, too!

Oh yeah, the music in Twisted is undeniably the best. There are some iconic tunes in other shows (Kick It Up A Notch in Starship is an all-timer), but Twisted as a whole has A+ music and lyrics from beginning to end.

This was amazing because last week I showed all my friends Twisted over zoom. Tomorrow I'm showing them firebringer. Perfect timing

😂😂😂Starkid definitely likes to go with the cheap jokes, but they do it with so much heart and dedication they cant help but win you over anyway imo lol. This one definitely has some of, if not the best lyrics and songs, but to have continually put out consistent content for over a decade to KZread is impressive! Glad you guys are enjoying Starkid!

Something I noticed (and mentioned on Schaffrillas' video on the musical) is the fact that the Princess lands squarely between Jafar's desire to change the kingdom for the better, and the overall aloof and dream-centric attitude the rest of the kingdom has. Which is a subtle (and probably unintentional maybe) hint of Jas-- I mean the Princess being Jafar's daughter and not that of the Sultan.

I personally like the cheap jokes. It's something most people wouldn't expect in a musical and that's what makes it work for me.

Yes!! This is probably my favorite starkid musical- so much humor, emotion, and music in one perfect package

I am so glad yall decided to watch Twisted. It truly is Starkid's magnum opus. I firmly believe it could go head-to-head with just about any show on Broadway.

In the beginning of Aladdin there is a merchant selling items (like how Aladdin in this musical is at the end.. its the same set up/guy) and they are playing on exactly what Nine tail brush was saying at 2:16:10 where it was Aladdin telling the Twisted version of the story (a.k.a. the Movie) ....sorry if I didnt explain this good!

I love this one! The songs were written by A.J. Holmes and Kaley McMahon and imo it's some of the best music in Starkid canon. Somewhere on youtube is a video analysing the songs using Sondheim's rules for musicals and it's really interesting.

you mentioned at the end that part of the reason why you enjoyed this one so much more is because the way it was filmed improved. This makes me think you would really enjoy Black Friday because the cinematography on that one is top-notch. In that one, they really use the camera as its own storytelling tool and not just as a way to send a play to the internet

The "Take Off Your Clothes" song is filled with so many deep cuts and Disney conspiracy theories, lol.

Not gonna lie, this one got me teary eyed in some spots.

Twisted is probably the fan favorite, but all of Starkid's musicals are very worth watching, they're hilarious. Trail to Oregon, Firebringer, and Starship all have great songs, characters, story, etc

I’m still definitely going to watch their reactions to the other musicals, though, as I think this channel is awesome. I think MAMD is so underrated!! I think that they also could definitely give Starship and Holy Musical B@man a watch, too!

I'm so excited! This one is one of my favorites! I guess it doesn't really matter the order, but I'd suggest watching The Guy Who Doesn't Like Musicals first. Mainly to catch references and call backs that Black Friday makes for the previous, but other than that, I hope you guys do end up watching more of their musicals! Holy Musical B@tman is a great musical too!

yes, more Twisted love! it's SO freaking good! it has so many layers! i'm sure someone down in the comments has highlighted the Wicked parallels already. the Disney ones are pretty obvious but a lot of the Wicked references are hidden in the lyrics and music and if you've never seen Wicked they aren't as apparent. my favorite one is how the song Happy Ending 1:07:38 parallels with the Wizard and I. there are lines Jafar has that parallel Elphaba's so brilliantly. here's one example: Jafar: and one day the genie will say to me, 'Jafar, you're a man of such virtue. i hate to see how your loneliness and your memories hurt you. shouldn't a man who's so noble and who's influence is so global have someone by his side? i kow what you're wishing so with you permission i'd like bring back your bride.' Elphaba: one day he'll say to me, 'Elphaba, girl who is so superior, should a girl who's so good inside have a matching exterior? and since folks here, to an absurd degree, seem fixated on your verdigris...would it be alright by you if i de-greenify you?' GAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH the music and lyrics are SO good!

This isn’t a Starkid show, but the Tin Can Brothers (a sort of brother company to Starkid, if you will) wrote a show that’s genuinely my favorite musical: Spies Are Forever. legitimately everything about it is fantastic (the one thing i will warn of is it involves some playful antisemitism, in the sense that at least one of the writers is Jewish and i think several cast members are also Jewish, and the actor who plays the main nazi character is one of the writers who IS Jewish) and I think you guys would really like it. just a suggestion!! keep doing what you’re doing :)

I've always felt like it's in line with media like The Dictator and JoJo Rabbit, there's nothing Nazis hate more than being stripped of their power and portrayed as the idiotic self centered assholes that they are, the musical even acknowledges the obvious and has the good guy remind the audience that they'd be insane to side with the Nazis :0

I'm not sure if you recognised it by your reaction, but the opening number is somewhat based on the opening of Beauty and the Beast... That's why there's the kinda French bit and there's the bit about reading books and Jafar walks into Belle (I think for the purposes of avoiding copyright/trademark issues they listed him as Ja'far lol... Notice how they call her Princess, but never Jasmine... Aladdin himself isn't owned by Disney though, which is nice lol). There's so many good references if you know your Disney lol. I think Everything and more has strong Part of Your World from the Little mermaid vibes... I think it was pretty genius to take the Prince Achmed character and expand on it for this too lol... I wonder if they took anything from Wicked... I'm not super familiar with it, basically just Defying Gravity I think, so I don't know... Definitely tons of Disney though lol. I think the song Twisted has some Poor Unfortunate Souls vibes for part of it... But not quite...It's a little bit of a shame you hadn't both seen all the originals first, but obviously it's not totally essential, Glad you you enjoyed it... Takeoffyourclothes... lol No, don't actually, you might get banned... Although I heard there are naked yoga videos and stuff... I swear, sometimes I've no idea what youtube is doing... My favorite Starkid show is absolutely Starship, though I rarely see it brought up. Its so good and Dylan’s song Kick it Up a Notch is FANTASTIC

That part you didn’t recognize from the genie’s lines was Dr Evil and his son from Austin Powers

This makes me so incredibly happy! I'm so excited for your starkid reactions 😁 You've chosen some great ones - The guy who didn't like musicals is my absolute favourite. Personally I also love Firebringer and Holy musical batman (incredibly underated!). You hadn't mentioned watching those but I would highly recommend them. To be honest though, the whole starkid catalogue is worth watching - they're all so talented!

Every now and then I re-watch the musicals, but it's more fun with you guys! I was super happy to see the new vid, and watch it instead f I mean WHILE I was working haha

My daughter and I saw this live in Chicago many years ago. Glad to see people still enjoying Starkid and new people discovering them! I hope you guys had an opportunity to watch them all even if you didn't react to them.

Their costumes are so beautiful and cleverly designed. The amount of text they delivered is unbelievable. For me, the many perverse expressions and scenes are a bit too much, but I loved the music, the singing, the acting, and the costumes. This was so much fun to watch with you two :) Thank you, guys.
