The whole story is based on the ancient Greek tale "The Odyssey" by the poet Homer. The blind seer, the sirens, the cyclops etc. are characters from the original.

The leader of the convict trio, and who led the Greek sailors, is named Ulysses! His estranged wife's name is Penny, nickname for Penelope; that's Ulysses' wife's name in the "Odyssey." Great sound track in this flick. Tim Blake Nelson is actually singing his part in "In the Jailhouse Now."

Thanks for the complement again. That would be nice to be recognize by some film company. I feel a reaction channel should be entertaining. Just sitting there and staring at the screen is no fun. While laughing at odd moments. Not cool. I try to feel the movie vibe and just go with it. Can’t be scared doing this. Have to just cut loose 😂

Brillant movie. Fantastic choice, CJ. This and The Big Lebowski are favorites of mine. And what a soundtrack. When it was in cinema, it really brought back this old-school bluegrass/country for a while. Great stuff. Dan Timinsky was the voice of Clooneys singing. A singer worth to check out. Will watch your full reaction tomorrow.

I've heard the term, rode out out of town on a rail. If you were a undesirable of some sort they would put their on a railroad tie and take you outside the city limits. And there was a good chance that somewhere along the way you'd be stripped and tar and feathered. Usually reserved for drunken bullies, con-men or thieves.

@@CJmidnightreactions I learned the bass first. First by an instructor, then finally, by plugging my bass into my stereo and playing along. I was classically trained on Bass Clarinet and Contra Bass. but it didn't quite work the same way with bass and Guitar. In High School, I was asked to play Rhythm Guitar, since I already knew bass. So I learned Barre Chords. But it was just as fun.

I have only seen this movie about 25 times! I notice something different not every time but some times - When the creepy little guy who led the KKK goes to the convention and says "I have it on the HIGHEST authority that N sold his soul to the devil" It never dawned on me you know the singer didn't tell him and he was out there on the cross roads alone - so it must of been the Devil himself. mmm hmmm it fits. I enjoyed your reaction. I don't recall having watched with you before but I will check back by. Thanks.

I enjoyed your reaction to this great movie. And you are the first I've seen who got the "crossroads" reference and had heard of Baby Face Nelson. But it is full of other references too. So if you liked this movie it is definitely worth your while to do some research on the hidden meaning behind all the characters (specifically on who they represesent). Many are based on characters in Homer's Odyssey but they are also mashed together with real and legendary figures from the Great Depression era southern US. And if the KKK rally scene looked familiar it is they lifted the idea for it from THE WIZARD OF OZ.

Thanks a lot. I love History. When I’m not recording I watch sports or some history documentaries. I didn’t catch the Wizard of OZ reference. I’ve heard of Homer’s Odyssey. It’s a genius movie to mash everything into the writing. I’ve notice the Coen brothers are big about Easter Eggs and clues. I try to caught what I can when reacting to movies.
