I think at the end scene Blondie had no intention of killing or cheating Tuco at any point, he just wanted to gain some distance from Tuco remembering how Tuco snuck off to the cemetery without him after they made a mutual pact and sundry other betrayals

The greatest movie ever! Its an epic and made Tarantino. This is the movie. Watch it once a year. Made me as a filmmaker!

Great actors in a stunning western under the fantastic direction of Sergio Leone. 👏 And the phenomenal soundtrack by Ennio Morricone is out of this world. 🤩

You should also watch For A Few Dollars More, which is just as good as this one. Same casting(except Elli Wallach)but they play different characters. It has one of the best villains of all time.

How did Tuco recognise the Arch Stanton grave when he can't even read?

THE FLICK would`ve been just "The 3 Gunslingers" in our normal 60s American written westerns, but there`s no Italian word for that so it premiered in `66 Rome as "IL Buonno Il Brutto E Il Cavttivo" the final in Sergio`s trilogy, Padna... I`ve watched many come before you and wince at the sound of the 1st ricochet and the gore entailed within the story surrounding the 62 New Mexico Civil War campaign that happens to get in the way of the chase for the gold... and in the end, they make you ask again did Blondie really have to leave Tuco hangin on the line, BUT he did have a good eye SO Keep on Rockin out the movie Sergio critiques ( Fistful of Dollars & A Few Dollars More) & giddyup MIDNIGHT REACTIONS

Another great western you should check out is Once Upon a Time in the West. Same director.

This is my all-time favourite movie and the number of times I've seen must easily be in triple digits by now. I do have a preference for the original English language cut. The extended/restored version which you watched has additional scenes which don't add much, but the technical constraints - different colour grading, re-recorded dialog with older actors (and one dead), abrupt sound quality transitions - just take too much away. It is nice to have those scenes, but it would be nicer to watch the movie as I remember it. It's really just an adventure. The characters cross each other's paths back and forth through a series of set-pieces, and the humour, charm, interaction and dialog are the real stars of the show. I'll never tire of watching it.

Pretty much all Eastwood westerns are great. My personal favorite is The Outlaw Josey Wales (1976), which also uses the Civil War (and its end) as a setting. Eastwood does a magnificent job of showing the brutality of war - on *both* sides. It also showed Native Americans in a sympathetic light, unlike most westerns before it (especially the really old ones where all the 'Injuns' were played by white people in bad wigs).

No matter how many times I have seen this and the other 2 spaghettis, I must say, in the Good The Bad and the Ugly, Clint was just as ugly in his dealings as Eli. And Eli was right to put Clint through hell before they started working together.

I'd say tuco is much worse than Blondie Yes Blondie did leave him for dead in the desert, but compared to what Tuco did you can see who's the more moral man. Blondie simply leaves him, while Tuco actively takes enjoyment out of Blondies suffering and repeatedly torments him with the full intent of killing him. When Blondie left Tuco he didn't seem to want Tuco dead, just to leave him in a vulnerable situation so he can escape. If he wanted to kill Tuco he absolutely could have, instead he just leaves him. But Tuco wanted Blondie dead and he wanted him to suffer, taking enjoyment out of it And even after all this, Blondie still gives his half of the gold to Tuco and let's him live. Blondie is the good after all, he's not perfectly good but he's no where near as ugly as Tuco or as evil as Angle Eyes

@@jackbluehq6653 Clint knew, in his mind, he was leaving Tuco to die a slow and painful death. Blondie saying he could make it was him lying. Tuco only made it because of revenge. It kept him motivated beyond when any others would have perished. Tuco was slime. Blonde was slime as well. Consider that Blondie was in the business of helping killers and others escape justice. People who then committed more atroctities. We see Blondie as less bad because he is Clint. He is just as bad as Tuco.

@@tenjed4224 Clint definitely was not lying about Tuco being able to make it Because think about it for a second. There is no way the nearest town was 70 miles. Because if that was true then that meant they had to ride out 70 miles only for Blondie to leave him. The town was most definitely way closer than what Blondie says, now why did Blondie lie about the distance? God knows but I do think he was being honest about believing Tuco could survive, which evidently he did Blondie is not a morally good person but Tuco is worse interms of morality. This is shown by how they both react to the large war at the bridge. Blondie sees the fighting and says "I've never seen so many men wasted so badly" and he trys to comfort a dying soldier. He shows genuine morality when it comes to the death of others. Tuco on the other hand does not show any kind of remource for all the soldiers lives being wasted. And at the end, Blondie spares Tuco and let's him have his half of the gold like promised. Tuco is a backstabber who tried to betray Blondie again when he was comforting a dying man. Yet Blondie still let him live and let him have his gold Blondie is not incredibly good by any means, but we see him showcase morality that's higher than Tucos. And if you believe Blondie is the same character in the other two films then you can see even more of this good side of him. Saving a family from a gang and giving them all his money, helping a bounty hunter get revenge for his sisters killer. He shows far more good deeds then Tuco. Tuco is a rat who sometimes enjoys the suffering of others and always trys to backstab people for his selfish needs. Blondie is not anywhere near perfect but he has a heart and does good things in the end, so no Blondie is not the same as Tuco interms of morality

@jackbluehq6653 liberties were taken with how far they traveled. That was one of the things I did not like about an otherwise exceptional film. But Tuco was taken out far enough to where he would not have made it back - except his mind had revenge. And Blondie thought Tuco was dead, otherwise he would have protected himself instead of allowing Tuco to catch up to him. If he thought Tuco could make it back, then he would be an idiot for not protecting himself. I don't believe Blondie was an idiot. He thought Tuco would die in the desert. Look at us arguing over that great film. It shows that film touched both of us. It really is a masterpiece.

@jackbluehq6653 addendum: I think Leone wanted people to see Blondie as better than he was by him giving a cigarette to a dying soldier. I originally saw Blondie as the good guy. Then watching it over and over again I came to the realization he was no better than Tuco. Blondie killed at least 3 bounty hunters, when 'capturing' Tuco. If the authorities knew, he would have been on a wanted poster.
