For me it hit perfectly because it helped me get over my stupid mental hangups of "well, this isn't metal" and dumb thoughts like that and really helped one me up to just listening to more genres/music in general. That being said, I can see your perspective for sure. I just saw it more positively with where I was at in my music journey

@@Baba429Yaga I guess I just think it’s pretentious in the sense that Sleep Token while they “genre mash” still play into pretty typical and standard genres overall. I’m not an overall fan of their gimmick with the weird Sleep deity and everything personally maybe that’s why. I just enjoy their music lol but I know lots of people feel differently than me and it’s just my opinion

Other people's labels and idea of what fits in what box are only useful to a certain extent. Often it's better to just let something be what it is.

Start at the beginning. Vessel weaves a story through 2 EPs and 3 albums. It’s a hell of a ride that you won’t regret.

Totally worth it. I started with the One EP and went from there. If you want the story by itself though, you should start with Sundowning, then Tomb, then Eden. He also references 'When the Bough Breaks' and 'Jaws' from their earlier releases.

I love people finding Sleep Token. I can't listen to it the first time again and I love watching others do it. Start at the beginning of TMBTE. There's so many call backs. If you start at the beginning of the journey of their music at the EP's there's what feels like a full story arch. Worship ❤

Love Ascensionism, has to be my favorite. I also really like Atlantic, and DYWTYLM is my underdog pick. But there are so many bangers

I love how even after all the stuff ST throws at people (especially ones that are experiencing them for the first time with THIS song), the ending still hits like a truck.

Ascensionism and Atlantic are my two personal favorites, but like many have said, you should start at the beginning. Many songs on TMBTE have call back references to older songs. (Including this one.)

Realistically, all of their tracks are worth checking out, but if you wanna get fully immersed, go allllllllll the way back to the EPs

I would recommend checking out their single “Jaws” and then dive into the album Sundowning. Sundowning is an absolute masterpiece and like you said, you never know what you’re going to get. The songs on Sundowning are more cohesive within themselves, as opposed to this song. But as a whole, very genre-defying. You really won’t appreciate the payoffs of the callbacks if you don’t listen to their earlier work first. There’s even one in this song, Take Me Back To Eden, that you missed already from the album’s opening track “Chokehold”. I just started listening to them this year and they have become my new favorite band.

The magic of Sleep Token is on their hability to make us feel exactly what the music delivers, not only lyricaly, but as hole thing. On this song, all the way we are whispering about being left behind and loss something important for us, but at the top end, we cant holdon anymore all this pain and just "bite back in anger"

What i love about them is that they are like a surprise 3 course meal....you never know what ur gonna get!

The most satisfying way to enjoy Sleep Token is to listen to everything they have including the first two EP's. I'm hooked on Nazareth, Dark Signs, Like That, Descending, Gods but I keep it ALL on the playlist..I will go ahead and tell you up front, they WILL be one of your favorite bands very quickly.

Bro, this was a very deep and even sad song, and most people don’t understand what the lyrics are describing. It’s describing the death of a living soul through drowning, then he goes back into his life and speaks of the disappointments and let downs, and how death had sunken its teeth in him and he didn’t know why and that he doesn’t want it at this point. The end starts with his fighting back against his impending death, and the rage comes out as he screams that he just wants to go back to Eden, a place where there is no death, suffering or disappointment. Listen to the lyrics. The part about diving through Crystal Waters, and perfect oceans, but no one told him not to breathe, and his explanation of weightlessness receding, is describing that he has just drowned. Then he goes into the disappointments of life in the spoken word part. It’s a very deep song and a beautiful musical statement

100% without a doubt start from the beginning. Then when you get to the end op TMBTE do a "Take me back to Eden (song re-visited)" & Euclid- end of Discography-double reaction" Special. Ill be watching and in the comments all the way.

I would recommend at least going back to the first full album Sundowning then the second album This Place Will Become Your Tomb. TMBTE is the finale of the trilogy and the album has more impact if you've heard the others. Especially the last song on TMBTE. Emotional gut punch. If you choose not to you will still enjoy the album. After all of that, go back for the EP's, singles, and covers. Worship.

Can't go into a sleep token song with any expectations 😂 🖤🙌 Starr at the beginning they've always been this way you just never know and it's all beautiful and haunting and there is a story the albums tell. I think vessel makes what he wants to and won't be put into any box and it's what makes them special imo 🖤🖤

You will never pigeon hole ST into any one genre. The folks that do not like them I have found to be the kind of person that has to have everything categorized very neatly or they can't cope.

This entire album is just a masterpiece!! Just do the entire 3rd album. The first two albums are alright, but the third is a masterpiece

There is so much to taking in with this song. Take your time and once you acclimate to their flavor, you will find it gets deeper and more complex the more you listen. A little bit of an acquired taste but one that is more palatable now than it ever was. I encourage you to listen through from the beginning. There is much to digest and many great songs to unearth!

I think this "genre" of music just really gores to show that music is undefinable. You van have heavy music, screams, and also rap in a song and when done straight is perfection. Expanding out and blending that is done so well.

You can’t go into any ST song for the first time with any expectations of what it is gonna sound like. You can only expect perfection!

Welcome to another rabbit hole…… The story of this band, and it is a story, starts and ends. TRILOGY, is a word you will see in many comments. Long story short, it’s a love story. It’s dramatic. If you’ve ever allowed music to touch you, this story can do that but it takes time and patience to tell the full story. Good luck. I started at the end, jumped around, but found myself listening from the start to end many times.

Near as I can tell.... they would be progressive or fusion. The sheer number of genres that their song encompass is amazing

Ascensionism is gonna really blow you away now lol plus if ya want more of a metal one go with Hypnosis, Rain, Vore, or Gods. Impossible to put them in any genre

I read time ago a comment in one of their videos saying that Sleep Token is one of this bands (they call themselves collective) "so confusing and hard to explain to someone" and that's true, I'm a Sleep Token fan since their debut and they keep confusing me,I guess that's what I like from them,I begin to get used to this all genres blended in a song,in my opinion they are not a completely metal collective, they have a variety of influences from pop and r&b etc, although they operate in that scene, I think it goes beyond alternative metal

Lore is the heavy song on album

I recommend listening to their very first song, "The Night Does Not Belong to God" and then just listen to the entire Take Me Back to Eden album, and then just listen to the entire other two albums.

You gotta just dive into sleep token and breathe it all in. Just bathe in that music

While it IS true that Sleep Token is very very good at genre blending, with some of their music you can expect it to just flow in one “lane” if you will🙂 they have heavier scream songs like Gods and Vore, but they also have beautiful piano ballads like Blood Sport and Is It Really You? Vessel’s voice is like velvety magic and he absolutely sings, raps, and screams perfectly🖤 lots of people will tell you to start from the first album or the first EPs, which is a good idea of course, but I BEG of you… at the very least DO NOT listen to Euclid without having first listened to The Night Does Not Belong to God. Sooo many people do not truly understand the impact that Euclid has because they haven’t heard TNDNBTG first🙌🏼 (Euclid is the last song on their most recent album and TNDNBTG is the first song on their first album, and it very much so goes full circle) I’m glad you’re liking their music, and I know you’re going to love it even more once you’ve experienced what else they can do😁 their music isn’t just songs, it’s a story, it’s a journey… so buckle in!😊 worship🖤

I will say this album tells a story in it's order, and is best experience like it, as there are callbacks and such, and a whole journey. But this is great song either way!

Sleep token is a crazy meld of all that is good. They know just how to mix shit up and keep things without getting cheesy. Personally don't listen to them often but when one of their songs hit you simply cannot skip it. Something to check out if you like that downtuned stuff: Glass Cloud - I Dug A Grave (Legator Guitars Edition)

Clearly don’t get it. One of their best. And is the pivot point of the album. Ready to heal.
