For many and many French people this song means "Italy". Lots of Italian singers were successful in France during the 70s and 80s like Toto Cutugno, Eros Ramazotti whom I'm sure you'll enjoy listening the songs.

I was about to write the same comment. In France, Toto Cutugno was behind lots of French hits (like "L'été indien", "En chantant", "Voici les clés", ...). And there also was Umberto Tozzi.

Ricchi e Poveri ("The Rich and The Poor") is an Italian pop group formed in Genoa in 1967, originally consisting of Angela Brambati, Angelo Sotgiu, Franco Gatti and Marina Occhiena. Active since the late 1960s, they have sold over 20 million records.😍

They had a lot of hits in the early 80s. They were also very successful here in Germany. This song was used here for a very popular commercial spot for a margarine. Their song "Mamma Maria" is an all time party classic..

In France their song was famous and thanks to the adapatation of Karen Cheryl the same year: Les nouveaux romantiques (The new romantics),a huge hit. The same for Made in Italy in 1982 but for them it was a big flop so Karen Cheryl a biggest hit (Oh Chéri Chéri... in French), more than Les nouveaux romantiques in terms of sales.

OMG iconic international song from the 80's. It was a huge success in Mexico. Ambassadors of italian music before Pausini, Ramazzotti. They won Festival de San Remo in 85 with Se m'innamoro. Luis Miguel was in the second place with Noi, ragazzi di oggi. And that year the first time Ramazzotti. Thank you for your video.

A Big Big hit in France. Beginnig of the 80's at the producer decided to launch in France this Song from Ricchi e Poveri and in French from Karen Cheryl. They were both hits .....And then in 1985 the movie "l'effrontee" was a succès and the song of the movie is also "Sara perché ti amo"...this movie is very popular every year each Time it is on the TV....as a conséquence , all Teens from 1985 know this Song....

I'm French and love this song, Such an hit song in the 80s, you could hear it on all the radio!

You should try the one with the full orchestra, it takes it to the next level still. Their 50 years at San Remo 2020 took it even further

Superb early 80s italian disco sound! 🤩 Fun fact: You can hear this song in the french horror movie 'High Tension' when the girls drive in their car at the very beginning. Great decisiom to react on this one, Dereck!

Adaptée en français par Karen Cheryl "Les nouveaux romantiques" qui a été un succès populaire également tout comme leur seconde chanson Made in Italy mais ça a capoté pour eux alors que Karen avec "oh chéri chéri..." en a fait un gros succès dépassant encore plus l'original dont personne ne se souvient, même pas moi c'est pour dire!

Hi Dereck! Thanks for your react on Ricchi E Poveri. This song "Sarà Perchè Ti Amo" was released in 1981 and sold over a million copies, ranked no.1 and was 8th in sales in 1981. It is one of the greatest successes of the trio composed of Franco Gatti, Angela Brambati and Angelo Sotgiu, Marina Occhiena having left the group following a conflict with Angela and embarking on a solo career thereafter. The song was presented at the famous San Remo Festival for its 31st edition where it finished fifth. Even a Spanish version entitled "Sera Porque Te Amo" will be recorded and will appear on the album: Me Enamoro De Ti. The lyrics of this version were written by Luis Gòmez Escolar. In France, the female singer Karen Cheryl will cover in French this title the same year entitled "Les Nouveaux Romantiques" (The New Romantics) with success, the record will sell 402,000 copies, ranked no.1 and becomes 27th in sales for the year 1981.😉 Their follow up in 1982 is "made In Italy" but unfortunately it was a flop! Karen Cheryl covered it also in French "Oh Chéri Chéri... (Dam Dam Dam)/Oh Darling Darling... (Dam Dam Dam)" and it was a huge hit : no.1 in France, no.30 of the year 1982, Gold disc and 502 000 copies sold!😉 One of her biggest hit after "Si" (If) in 1980: 700 000 copies sold, gold disc, no.14 of the year 1981 and its American version "I Hope It'S Me" (50 000 copies sold) released in 1981 after the success of the French version but recorded before the French version in 1980.
