Hi all welcome back to another video Dereck Reacts back at it again! This time around we take a look at another reaction from Daniel Balavoine made possible by all of you.

A song he wrote to protest against the rising of far right in France in the middle of 80's. It is also a tribute to his wife who was a jewish marrocan. His fight for human dignity and against poverty and hunger in the world, mostly in Somalia, make him a symbol for all of us. We miss him, he's gone too soon...

hi from france. For us French, it is very important that a guy listens to the songs with an outside ear without knowing the past of this singer, which proves his talent and not the love that we have for him. was a thunderclap. He was a humanist who died in full glory. a special program has been devoted to him and the presenter after his song which makes him known "the singer" sita his last words of this song "I want to die unhappy so as not to regret anything" then say "I hope he died happy. can. a while later it is coluche who kills himself on a motorbike but that's another story. 2 humanists died the same year

He was a good man, fighting against racism, poverty and injustice. His wife was from Marocco. They had a son, Jérémie, born in 1984. Daniel wrote the song "Dieu que c'est beau" (God, how beautiful it it) after the birth of his son. Jérémie was only 2 when Daniel died and his wife was pregnant with their second child, a girl, Joana (born 5 months after her father's death). Both of his children are musicians.

Hi Dereck! Thanks for your react on Daniel Balavoine again. Do you know for this music video (shot in Morocco and Paris, you can see Eiffel Tower) , there is another version, the same but with organic elements like the wind, the storm, guitar explosion sound and the children's cry at the end. In the beginning, we see his son 2 times, 3-4 years old at the time ( the little brown boy with short hairs) for a few seconds. This song is againt racism ( very present in France at the time) but also a tribute to his wife, Corinne, of Jewish-Maroccan origin and released on October 14, 1985 (the B-Side is "Tous Les Cris Les S.O.S) and enters the Top 50 the same month. It will become No.1 for 8 weeks with 29 weeks of presence ( Platinum disc with more 1 million copies sold) due to a helicopter crash on January 14, 1986 with others passengers during his humanitarian mission in Paris-Dakar. Unfortunately, that day the world collapsed, it was a great loss for French people. Now we only have the memory of his beautiful songs. Now, you are ready to react on Sauver L'Amour (Save Love) as the last single from his eponymous album, a song very 80's, lots of synths and drums as you like, it's my fav! Daniel gives all the power of his voice and also with 'ooh oh oh" and "ah ah" and female backing vocals identical to the L'Aziza ( My Darling in Arabic). Thanks dude 👍 from 🇫🇷.

He died 7 years before I was born but, in 1986. I have a deep respect for this man who left too early

It was also weird to see the debries of the crash all other the news and this song and video clip playing over again and again at the same period. It was like he was singing for us, beyond the boundries of death. He was very present and very abscent at the same time. Really a weird weird time.

The career of Daniel Balavoine was so intense, so quick. The success really start in 1978 with his first hit "Le Chanteur" and the Opera-Rock "Starmania" (Tycoon) and brutally stopped in 1986, 35 years ago. "Dieu que c'est beau", "Aimer et plus fort que d'être aimé", "Je ne suis pas un héros", "Sauver l'amour" are so important in his career. Another great french song writer and singer was Michel Berger (who wrote Starmania with Luc Plamondon) "Les Princes des villes" "Mademoiselle Chang" "Le Paradis Blanc" "Chanter pour ceux qui sont loin de chez eux" "La groupie du pianiste"

Written especially for him, but not by him. But you're right to fully appreciate the Balavoine's voice, it's a must. To write it they asked Daniel Balavoine to sing farest down and the farest high he could, and they wrote the chorus using those two extremes notes. That's why it's a really difficult song to sing for most of people.

You're so spot on Dereck when go: "he seemed to be a great man", oh yeah, he definitely was...so genuine, so flayed, revolted by injustice, always cared for the poorest ones, he even had the "couilles" (balls) to tell François Mitterand (former french president, charismatic) what he thought of his politics live on TV, without stammering, so charismatic too...he was a monument of french music, gone way too soon in a helicopter crash on the Paris-Dakar race in 1986 at 33 years old. Such a huge waste...😢 Many thanks Dereck!! PS: he had an unusual voice indeed, which he hated to tell you the truth...many people didn't trust him in the very beginning, telling him that his voice was too strange to be a popular singer...these idiots were so fucking wrong...

Like almost evrytime with Balavoine, this is a song about universal love. At that time France, mid 80's, racism was growing because of a migration wave coming from north African, lots of muslim people (Algeria, Morocco...etc) arrived in France (the migration wave started in the 70's precisely). So, in response of the racism sh*t, a lot of antiracist art and antiracist associations were created. This song is about a little girl who had to leave her sunny country to start a new life in the cold Paris (cold weather, cold people), the chorus says "your colour and your words, it's allright for me", it's a song about welcoming foreign people with different skin, culture, language in France, arms open wide. Beautiful humanist song.

@Dereck Hello, Great reaction from you. You've capte all what be needed to be. By cons, I don't know if I'm wrong but it seems to me speed of song was just a lil bit accelerated compared to original, wasn't it? I suggest you to now react to "Vivre ou Survivre" first and just after to "Aimer est plus fort que d'être aimer", and to finish with "Sauver l'amour". First cause I think "Vivre ou Survivre" is certainly the all first new wave French song ever product (I can't imagine what Daniel music could be if he was always with us!). The second is in same wave-synth vein but with even more experience in processing sound way. And of course always this dull rage rumbling in lyrics. The last, cause song bridge will make you fall from your chair ...Sure your bananas will roll on the floor! :D 3 titles to discover without delay. Amitiés from south France,

Daniel Balavoine was, indeed a great man with an imense enpathy for the world. He had fight in public television with the french president Francois Mitterand on what to do to reduce poverty in france and the world. He was very ingaged in charity, equality, against racism etc...(as you can see in this particular song about a girl from Magrheb comming in France to live a better life.) As you said, he died at age 33, in an helicopter accident during the 1986 Paris-Dakar rally. He was in the chopper with Thierry Sabine, Director of the Paris-Dakar He was folllowing the race and use it as a medium to inform the world about the poverty in Africa. Daniel was doing charity work and giving water pumps to the poor villages having issues with water supplies. Im telling you all this from memory. I'm french and I was born in late 83 and still feel for him.
