There's also a Hank Williams III - Junior's son. He sounds so much like his grandfather, but with a wonderful edgy modern style. Hank Sr. was the greatest country songwriter of all time.
Hank is a true legend. I may be wrong but I think this song was written in like 15 minutes after a fight with his wife.
Hank WAS the Hillbilly Shakespeare. He had back troubles all his life. He was in pain and it showed in his songs.
Hank Williams was born with Spina Bifida, a spinal cord defect that can cause pain. A fall during a hunting trip nearly paralyzed him. He recovered, but was in constant pain. A “quack” doctor who was later discovered to be practicing medicine without a license, was prescribing pain medication to Williams, but the medication had the side effect of doing long-term damage to his heart. A blood vessel in his aorta, leading to his heart, burst while Williams was asleep while his driver was driving North toward Canton, Ohio for a concert. When he did not respond to the driver’s attempts to wake him up, he went to a gas station in West Virginia seeking help, but it was too late.

So glad you mentioned that. I live with chronic back pain. There have been times that if someone presented with a syringe full of ANYTHING, I might have taken it. Chronic nerve pain is a rugged taskmaster. It is awful!
I grew up mainly loving rock and roll and even got to see the Beatles live as my very first concert. But my dad used to sing Hank Williams songs around the house when I was growing up and this song was one of them. And as I got older I decided to dive into Hank’s catalog and fell in love with his music. He’s just amazing! He also received a posthumous Pulitzer Prize for his music❤
Hank Sr. Wrote, "l saw the light." A song that's sung in many Churches since then. It's a great song. Well, Hank Sr was in a car with Country comedian/singer Minnie Pearl (Grand Ole Opry member & on the "Hee Haw" show) going to a show. Hank told Minnie that "he couldn't see the light anymore." Minnie didn't get to talk with him about it because he had to leave to sing. Not long after that, he died. Hank Sr has written so many great songs. You will enjoy them all. Country singer, Charley Pride did an excellent cover of "Kaw-liga."
Tony Bennett had a huge hit with his cover of “Cold, Cold. Heart”. Hank was called the Hillbilly Shakespeare.
Hank Jr. barely knew his father because Hank Sr. died when he was only 3 years old. His mother, Audrey, dressed him up like Hank Sr. and had him publicly perform his father's catalog as a very young child. Hank Jr. barely had any relationship with Hank III. There are a couple of films you can check out. There's a 1964 movie - "Your Cheatin' Heart." And then there's the 2016 "I Saw the Light."

In the mid-1950s, Johnny Cash recorded an EP of Hank Williams songs, which became a big hit for Sun Records. There is a very special group portrait of Johnny Cash, presenting a royalty check to Hank Williams’ widow, Audrey. Hank Williams, Jr. in childhood is there with her, along with the Governor of Tennessee at the time, Jimmie Davis, who was also a Country music star in the 1930s and 1940s.

The 60s move was made at a time when people who actually knew him were still alive, so it would be the most factual.
My favorite Hank Williams Senior song will always be the song be careful of stones that you throw
Whenever I hear Hank I also hear Alan Jackson singing "Midnight In Montgomery". I would encourage you to listen to it. It's about Alan visiting Hank.

👍👍My dad used to listen Hank Williams a lot, so I've heard this many times.😊 🖖❤
Love it I’m singing with him and I know every word. He has a lot of songs hey good lookin another be careful of stones that you throw there is his grandson Hank the third spitting image of grandpa
My favorite songs of Hank's are I saw the Light, Kaw Liga, Hey Good Lookin", I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry and Jumbalaya. As for his first name of Hiram, it's pronounced Hirum.
Hank's, alcohol and drug use stemmed from the Spina Bifida, he suffered from in his back very painful at times.
'Move It On Over', his first hit, and "Hey, Good Lookin'', are a couple of his lively, funny songs, both bangers. 'Lovesick Blues' was his first number one.
second most important song in music history, after love sick blues. Love Sick Blues made Hank a superstar. This song lead all kinds of stars to cover his songs. Tony Bennet, Ray Charles, Little Richard, Elvis, The Rolling Stones, The Beatles.....the list goes on.
He is such a fascinating character. There's quite the rabbit hole and once you get used to the recording quality of that time you will see that there's quite a bit of diversity in his songs and recordings. I think he was a bit of a genius in that direction, and his ability to emote was just stupendous, but he was funny as well in a lot of the songs. He's got so many intense songs and some of the most emotionally moving, but really most of them are, might be like I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry, and, Ramblin Man. But he's got a lot of wonderful upbeat stuff as well, and he was actually known for using a lot of yodeling and he used it both in upbeat songs and in slow bluesy songs. Lovesick Blues is a fantastic example of his mid-tempo to slightly up-tempo yodeling songs, and Lost Highway doesn't have a lot of yodeling in it but wow the storytelling is just so powerful. It's such a sing-along song. It's a note of caution to young man from an older man who has been through the wringer. But I would strongly advise you to check out this huge hit, it's a really up-tempo yodeling song and it's just so good. Moanin' the Blues. m.kzread.info/dash/bejne/h4ypscWhppbAiqw.html&pp=ygUeaGFuayB3aWxsaWFtcyBtb2FuaW4gdGhlIGJsdWVz
You should definitely check out the duet there’s a tear in my beer by both hank jr and sr
What's scary is how much his grandson Hank III sounds like him.

Hank111 also looks so much like his grandad it is uncanny.
Hank Williams is considered by many to be the most influential writer in country music history. Several of his songs, after their country chart run, would be given to pop artists and would have a second run on the pop charts. Cold Cold Heart was a hit for Tony Bennett. Others were Jambalaya (Jo Stafford), Hey, Good Lookin' (Frankie Laine) and Half as Much (Rosemary Clooney). I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry is considered by many one of the greatest of all country songs. Jambalaya and Hey, Good Lookin' reflect Hank's happier side. I Saw the Light is the most famous of the gospel songs he recorded under the pseudonym Luke the Drifter. All are worth looking into.
U can feel the heartache. That's the point of good country. To feel something whether good or bad
JR when he was a teen actually covered most all his fathers songs. And sang all the songs on the biography movie of Hank. JR's voice is a little bit deeper and just feels smoother.
In 1950, Hank Williams was a musical guest on “The Kate Smith Show” on NBC Television. The show’s episodes were filmed, so the picture and sound quality is very good. On the show, Hank Williams sings his hit song, “Hey, Good Lookin’ “.
I've always loved Hank. It wasn't until I watched a biography of Jr. that I realized how young Hank was when he passed. I thought he was in his 50's. I was totally blown away to learn he wasn't even thirty.
Your Cheating Heart is a movie starring George Hamilton as Hank and the songs were sung by Hank Jr. Great movie
I saw the light was GREAT !!!

Absolutely worth watching!!! The English actor did a fantastic job…even sang his songs!!!
He lived hard and fast! Hank Jr. was only 3 when his dad died. His mama raised him to sing his dad’s music until he got old enough to go outlaw country. His nickname is Bocephus (bo-cee-fuss) given to him by his father. There’s a great video out there with Sr. and Jr. singing together “There’s A Tear In My Beer” it’s pretty awesome. Love y’all videos 🌻👵🏼✌🏼💜
Hank was his own worst enemy just as it is true for many of us he wasn’t a constant drinker but could not stop if he started
There's an 8½ minutes compilation of all of his raw performances on TV. Titled "Hank Williams-Kate Smith Shows March & April 1952" uploaded by Earl Smith. It's the best quality of those performances that I've came across. One of the performances is this song, but it also has 3 other songs that he wrote. June Carter (Johnny Cash's future wife) is in it, and she introduces him and her sister for a duet. It was about 8 months before he passed.
Hank Williams wrote this in 1950. He died January 1, 1953. Hank, Jr. was 4. Hank Williams wrote some and performed some of the greatest. You'll find steel guitar in most of his songs.
As a kid in the 70s Mom and dad always had country on the car radio or the weekend on tv. I never really liked most country music and feel the same still today. Some of those singers like Hank Williams are still so good to me even now and give that feeling of just enjoying it and good memories as well.
Hank lived a life of pain, both physically and and emotionally, and it shows in his songwriting. There are several videos and a movie about his life.
Hank Jr. was raised to me his fathers clone by his mother, she of the Cold,Cold Heart. As soon as Jr was big enough she dressed him in his fathers show clothes and he did his dads songs. He went through a rough time breaking away from her and establishing his own identity. He wrote a book about it called Standing in the Shadows. Jr. was only 3 when Sr died in 1949 so he had no memory of him.
Your Cheatin' Heart (1964) MGM. Starring George Hamilton as Hank Williams. This was the first motion picture made about Hank Williams and Hank Williams Jr. actually sang the songs for the movie as George Hamilton lip-synced the words😮😊
I grew up listening to Hank. Still love his music. You should hear George Thorogood's cover of Hank's song 'Move It On Over' There are movies about Hank and a movie about Hank Jr. 'The Last Ride' stars Henry Thomas. He was the little boy in E.T. You should listen to Hank Jr's song called 'Family Tradition'. It's about his drinking and partying like his daddy. A family tradition.
I think the song rings true for a lot of people, especially for men,who find that women can't always let go of past relationships and the shadows they leave behind. Trust is hard to give if you have been mentally or physically injured in past relationships. I would definitely fact check what you read about what was going on back in those days. You can't always take at face value what record companies and movie producers were basing their morals on,nor can you tell a full story from just one person's point of view.
Hank Williams wrote over 200 songs including the Gospel classic "I Saw the Light." Many of his songs were recorded by him but never released during his lifetime. Tens of Thousands of other people have recorded his songs in nearly every genre and many have had big hits. His songs still generate hundreds of thousands of dollars in royalties every year. I have probably seen most of the movies about his life and they are all a waste of time if you want to see an accurate depiction of his life story. There are many great Hank Williams songs, but I highly recommend "Lost Highway.'
Loving the Williams clan reactions. I can't wait for you to finally get around to Hank III (Shelton Williams), Hank's grandson. Shelton is a multi-instrumentalist and he does country, punk and death metal. Check out his songs Dick in Dixie, Smoke and Wine, Pills I Took, 3 Shades of Black, Crazed Country Rebel, Country Heroes, there are too many to list.
Thank you! The Hank's are legendary ❤️🔥 You know, there's a Hank Williams III ;-) My favorite Hank Sr song, maybe even fav country song, "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry".
There is a bio pic of Hank Williams called "Your Cheatin' Heart" with Hank Jr. singing his daddy's songs. Starring George Hamilton.
Can’t say enough how good I SAW THE LIGHT was!!! He was likely in pain his entire life from the spina bifida not to mention the mental trama of dealing with his mother and wife!
You should listen/react to Hank Sr's Your Cheating Heart. His song that was a big cross over song for many singers of the fifties and sixties. Hank's 2nd wife Billie Jean Jones Williams married country singer Johnny Horton ((from 1953 to 1960) who died in a car crash. Johnny Horton is another great country and ballard singer who died to soon. His song that is my favorite is All For The Love of a Girl.
Robert Johnson and the Crossroads story..amazing influential music!!! It's been told that Johnson sold his soul to the devil at the crossroads of Tennessee. He arrived in San Antonio to record, and his guitar playing went from substandard to excellent.
"I Saw The Light" is the name of his recent biopic, and there is another earlier one called "Your Cheatin Heart" You should watch them!!
He wrote this. And most of his songs. The people who say he didn't are trying to profit off his name.
I’m so lonesome I could cry is my favorite song.. he sang on the Louisiana Hayride in shreveport LA.
The Biopic was "Your Cheating Heart starring George Hamilton in 1965. All the singing in the movie was done by Hank Jr. that's how I starting liking Jr.. Saw the movie and then ran out and bought my first Hank Williams Jr., and he has been my favorite since then.
Now you have to check out Hank Williams III, saw him open for David Allen Coe in 99 in New Orleans. He went from country to metal then back to country. Looks like his grandpa with long hair. Jim
Wow,.he looks and has a presence and confidence far beyond someone in their 20s
In case no one has already said, there is a biopic called your cheating heart. George Hamilton, the fourth stars as Hank Williams, and Hank Williams Jr. sings the songs.
My Mexican roommate in college would get piss drunk and listen to Hank Williams and cry about his girlfriend. So much entertainment

A must to react to: Hank Williams Jr & Waylon Jennings- The Conversation Hank Williams Jr - Blues Man
This is the style we used to call Honky Tonk Crying In Your Beer sound.
George Thourogood covered Hank’s song “Move It On Over”
Great reaction. Check out “The ballad of Hank Williams” , song by Hank Jr., for a quick Hank bio!
This was the stuff that was on the record player in the house growing up. Dad was a huge fan. You could throw some Jim Reeves in there too.
"Tear in my Beer" video where the Hanks sing together via video technology.
One of the most transcendent musicians of all time. Country music was the medium, but his musical sphere went much farther than that
This song was recorded on December 21, 1950. Hank Williams died on New Years Day at the age of 29.

I am so happy you found Hank Sr!!! Hank Jr is good...but Hank III is a ghost of his grandfather. Check out Hank III. He does metal/punk and outlaw country in a Jekyll/Hyde set. AssJack is his band. He walked away from the industry to retain artistic and financial control. He's largely indie atm.
Check out the duet of Hank Sr. And Hank Jr. Together singing There’s a tear in my beer.
Beautiful song !
He dose have a biopic "I Saw the Light" Tom Hiddleston plays Hank Williams
The man was a god. Listen to chonkytonk blues" and "hey good looking"
There has been quite a few movies on Hank William's life Your Cheating Heart (1964). I Saw The Light (2015). The Last Ride (2011) tells about his last days. Also a good documentary is Honky Tonk Blues (2004). There are others but these should explain his life.
Yes there was several movies about hank Williams.
Love Hank
Alan Jackson wrote a song Midnight in Montgomery (Hank was buried here) in honor of Hank.
I am not sure but there is show called The last ride. I believe it is about Hank Williams

There is a song called The Ride, a song by David Allan Coe. That's another artist to be reacted to.
Hank Williams Sr invented country music
My father's favorite!
One of my favorites of Hank Williams is I'll Never Get Out Of This World Alive. He has a lot of great ones, though.
He was nicknamed "Hillbilly Shakespeare"
Just for fun - try "Tear in my Beer" with Hank Sr and Jr together in the video
He missed gigs all the time because he was messed up, but ironically he was a human metronome and kept perfect time. You couldn’t get him off his perfect rhythm. He was probably the best country songwriter of all time, had a band made up of young virtuosos, and somehow came up with a little money when he was a teenager to pay a black man, Rufus Payne, to teach him blues guitar, which gave his music a depth and character no other country artist could match. He died at 29 but started so young that he’d been professional half his life. He was the best.
Alan Jackson’s “Midnight in Montgomery” is about Hank Williams Sr.
He wrote 167 songs that we know and only was 29 years old.
Hank Sr. Has a daughter she was born three days after his death Jett Willams she was put up for adoption after grandmother died so she didn’t know her identity She sings as well
I don't know why that hasn't been better movies about him weather is the actors or the directors but I'm hoping one day there will be a really good movie.
It's a Family Tradition
Magic . I love the way you a biog before the Arstists Audio. 😄
It's actually scary how much his grandson Hank III looks and sounds like him. But Hank III decided to go the more edgey route. When Hank III was younger, they made an album where all three Hanks were singing together, and it's trippy when you hear Hank Sr. and Hank III on the same track. There's also a video from the 90's of Hank III wearing Hank Sr's suit and performing Hank Sr songs live, and he looks and sounds a lot like him.. His voice has gotten rougher since then though.
What's also crazy is that his second wife (her last name was Horton) went on to marry Johnny Horton, another beloved country singer who also died too early from a car crash.. So she got widowed twice... I wouldn't be lining up to be the next guy to marry her. 😬
Just found you today. instant fan I've subscribed. Your one fun Dude
There are a few films of hank but even fewer of him singing with another person. One of those was the very young and lovely Anita Carter. (Johnny Cash's sister-in-law) This clip shows the two in a rare duet. Hank was very smitten with Anita and she was in awe of him. That is evident in this clip: kzread.info/dash/bejne/mqtszriOYNCWiKw.html

Born with spina bifada
He died in 1953
Go with the one from the 60s
It sounds slowed down a tiny bit ? Why ?? Its faster then that in my radio and in my past !!
For me, it skips a generation. Hank and Hank III are the shit. Check out Hank III sometime too. "Mississippi Mud" is not a bad place to start.. Great channel, keep it going! ❤❤❤
Check out “move it on over”, Bill Hailey & the Comets stole the music for “rock around the clock”. There’s a pretty good movie about Hank from about 10 years ago. I would suggest watching that one, not the sugarcoated fictional account from I believe the 1960s.
Yeah, Hank was doing some heavy duty prescription drugs and drinking like a fish. He looked about 70 when he died. But that man could write a song. I'd bet you've heard I saw the light.
