Hank was awarded a citation for his songwriting and his influence in moving country music into the mainstream of american culture. He was a genius, writing over 3000 songs. He died at the age of 29. He was the top country performer of his day. and he has influenced generations of musicians and singers, including every country singer, Elvis, the. Beatles and Bob Dylan. 70 years after his death singers are still doing tributes to him.

Hank williams sr. Wrote 683 documented songs, not 3,000.
Hank Williams passed away at the age of 29. Just think what music would have been like if he had lived to a ripe old age. WOW! My dad taught me to dance to Hank Williams' music.
Hank Jr was only about 4 I think when his dad died. Hank the third is worth a look also. Enjoy

Hank Jr's song "Man of Steel" gives the correct answer in the first line. "Well, my daddy died when I was threeee. 🎶"
Hank Sr. was the first rock star before rock n' roll was even a thing. Dead at 29, booze and drugs. Check out "Mind Your Own Business" and "Move it on over". So many great songs, but those are 2 killer tracks to continue your journey with. Peace.

Oh yeah! Both of those are good recommendations...
Hank Sr was taught guitar by a blues man. He wrote all his songs before age 29. There are now 4 Hanks releasing music all of them are excellent. Hank 3 mixes thrash metal with hard core country. Hank 4 is just getting started with what i call alt country which is country but not chained to any formula.
So the legend is that Hank wanted to get a record contract with Fred Rose Publishing, who was one of the top producers in Country music... Fred Rose told Hank, that if he could write a song and sing there during the interview, he would sign him as an artist... Hank went in the next room and wrote "Mansion on a hill", and sang it to Fred Rose and got the contract!!! " Mansion on the hill" became Hank's first song to chart, and the rest is history!!!💯👍👍👍
Hank Sr and Jr never got the chance to sing together as far as I know. They took Hank Srs recording and mixed in Hank Jr. Listen to There's a Tear in My Beer with the both of them.

Hank Jr was only 3 years old when his Dad passed. There's video's of them together. Try, There's a year in my beer. Hank Sr. wrote his songs. One is, I saw the light. They did have videos back then but sometimes you get to see them when they are live. There are a number of tributes to him like Midnight in Montgomery by Alan Jackson. It's great!

Hank wrote this song in about 10 minutes… man could seriously write and sing. He’s legend status.
One of the saddest songs ever written by the father of country music. The steel guitar on this song is absolutely iconic. You can't overlook 'Your Cheatin' Heart,' one of his biggest all-time hits, but he didn't just sing sad songs; some of his tunes were upbeat, even funny, like 'Settin' the Woods on Fire' and 'Howlin' at the Moon.'

And Move It On Over
Hank Williams also wrote songs under an alias as "Luke the Drifter", these songs were called " tearjerkers ",because they were so sad you couldn't listen without tearing up... Even though he was a terrible alcoholic, he performed several Gospel songs, and recorded" I saw the light",which is one of the most popular Gospels ever written and is still sung today in churches across the land!!
"...The silence of a falling star, lights up a purple sky..." That's poetry, right there!

Hank Sr. learned how to play guitar from his friend Tee Tot. An African American shoe shiner. His music was greatly influenced by his friend.
Not sure if it was intentional, but I've always thought Woody from Toy Story looks very much like Hank Williams Sr. Sr. is a country pioneering icon. Basically drank himself into a grave before 30.
I miss the steel guitar. My dad does whileI was in High school and I listened to this song over and over. It was 1965
This has been one of my all-time favorite songs since childhood. I learned it when my old uncle played it on his turntable. Takes me to a place I didn't think anyone else knew. Unforgettable.
When I was a kid, I wasn't allowed to watch MTV, (back when they actually had music), but I was allowed to watch country music videos, I think that is why country, and oldies hold such a special place in my heart. It's because that was the music of my childhood. I grew up listening to it, and listening to the older stuff like this song, with my grandparents. I grew up in the '80s and '90s, and I'm not saying I didn't listen to any pop, I did lots of Tiffany, Cyndi Lauper, and madonna, but I think overall when I reminisce I go back to music that is a little older than I am actually.
Hank Sr. was an incredible poet; with his songs, it's all about the lyrics.
Love your reactions brother! Check out Alan Jackson’s “Midnight in Montgomery “. It was written about Hank SR. It is Fire! Gives me chills every time I listen to it. 👍

Hank sr was as big as any rock star. Others have said the rest. He was a giant. I love everything he ever did. This is country as it should be. And yes. Love that steel guitar. .. crying out the sad sound that you just have to feel to your heart.. dan-9/02/22
Hello from South Georgia! Love this song. Hank Sr. is the Hillbilly Shakespeare singing in iambic pentameter. da DA da DA da DA- it mimics the beating of the heart.
This song really captures how it feels to be lonely.
To put this song's impact in context: Rolling Stone ranked it #111 in the list of 500 greatest songs of all time; making "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry" not only the second-oldest song on the list, but one of only two from the 1940s.
Elvis used to sing this song in concert & it would always give him the chills as he sang it. You could see it. Would love to see you react to it.💙☮💙

He famously called this song "probably the saddest song I've ever heard" during his 1973 Aloha satellite show.
Hank Williams Sr is literally my favorite of all time.
The steel guitar ❤️❤️❤️ Oh how I love a steel guitar, and paired with Hank’s mournful voice with his cry and voice cracks! Phenomenal! Hank’s voice and melodic style was so perfect in his work. He was a great singer and we lost him way too soon. Thank you for reacting! ❤️🙏😇
My father's absolute favorite. Hank Sr. My father played his albums all the time. Hank was a great song writer and singer, who died at age 29. I never got into Hank Jr. But I still listen to Hank Sr.
Even though I'm 30, Hank Sr. is on my Mount Rushmore of favorite artists. The dude was such a huge influence for having such a short career. Wrote and sang so many hit songs before passing at 29 years old in the back of his Cadillac on his was to a show on New Years Eve night 1952-1953. Different artists, but he was getting Elvis-like star power, before Elvis. You can hear his music featured in some of the biggest movies like Forest Gump and Shawshank Redemption. His music was also featured in the Last of Us video game. Here's an 8 minute compilation of all his televised live performances, which occurred on two broadcasts in 1952. Roughly 8 months before he passed. The compilation is the best quality video I've found of it. Hope the comment section allows me to post this link: kzread.info/dash/bejne/Ym2ipMuPhZCqYLQ.html
If you want a better idea of who he was, the biopic "I Saw the Light" is great. The guy who plays Loki in the MCU plays Hank in it and does a spectacular job.
The suit he's wearing is a "nudie suit" made by Nudie Cohen, who designed suits like this for all the big stars for a long time. He made Elvis' famous gold suit, and he also drove crazy awesome customized Cadillacs. Really, really cool guy, and it's worth reading up on him and diving down that rabbit hole. Dozens of nudie suits are in the country music hall of fame
Simple sounding, played on real instruments by true country people. This music can not be recreated. What a great singer and musicians.
You should check out his I saw the light. It’s even better.

Hank Williams III is an amazing live performance. He doesn’t talk between songs, just plays. Does country like gramps and metal. Thunder Storms and Neon Signs is an amazing cover he performs (originally Wayne Hancock).
I first heard this in a reaction, and it spoke to me. I sometimes have it on repeat. It's real.

Hank hurt his back as a younger man, drove him to booze and drugs to deal with the pain. Meanwhile, he had a cheating wife, which hurt him in other ways. And you're correct, he was 29. What a loss.
I am so glad that you are getting to enjoy different types of music. There are a lot of older music that I consider timeless.
Here's a 8 minute compilation of his live video performances: kzread.info/dash/bejne/Ym2ipMuPhZCqYLQ.html There's only a couple of videos of him performing live, when he appeared 2 times on a televised show in 1952. About 8 months before his passing. I listened to him my whole life and had only seen pictures, so it was trippy for me when I finally watched video of him doing these raw performances a few years ago. I think of him as a historical legend, so it was surreal to see him live and animated.
This song has been played, recorded, requested and sung more than any song in history. Nothing else even comes close. No excuse for not knowing that.
Elvis once said this was the saddest song he ever heard. There weren’t a lot of videos of Hank, just a few live performances. They did not make videos od new releases in those days.
another masterpiece from mister hank.
America’s FINEST songwriter.
There's a band called The The who put out an album in the 90's called Hanky Panky. It's a group of re-worked covers of Hanks songs. It's well worth a listen. Nice reaction here.
Hank Sr passed age 29. Hank Jr was 3 years old.. Back in those times almost all artist had their suits made with sequins for the performances.

Thanks for playing Hank Sr.
The suit is a special suit made by a man named Nudie Cohen that's and they were called Nudie suits and they had ALL the bling
You're Cheatin Heart, Honky Tonkin, Hey Good Lookin, Jambalaya, Lost Highway, There's a Tear in my beer (he also does a duet with JR on this), Lovesick Blues....I can go on forever, so many hits and he died at 29, when Hank JR was 3 years old.
New to your channel. Hank Sr. is as raw, and as good, as country gets. Hope you give more of his music a listen......he's a wonderful story-teller. Thanks for post.
Ain't but 1 Hank Williams and that's Sr. He was a lyrical genius. Jr. would've never been what he was without the name. His dad died young. Had spina bifida. And died from a heroin overdose from his doctor. He had surgery and needed time off but managers insisted he fulfill performances. Very sad.
I have ALWAYS loved this song, even when I was a little girl. There’s just something about it, that moved my spirit….Im glad you found it….HW was incredible….❤
He HAS to hear the funeral GUYS TELL HIM PLZZZ ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥 I say this because none have reacted to it yet a plus… from one brother to another it’s a GREAT song
Hank was behind every word.
Love to hear Hank Sr.
Hank Williams is the GOAT
my dad played steel guitar and this song so many times he played back up for patsy cline when she was in the quad cities she was a blast and died 3 weeks later
There’s three generations. Hank Junior was Hank Sn’s son and Kid Rock is Hank Jr.s son. Hank Sn was also the tour pioneer. He went from show to show in a car. No bus or plane. He died in the back set of his car, between shows. It has always been said “he died from a broken heart” because of the songs he sung.
you should check out Hank III (his grandson)! Crazed Country Rebel! it's country/punk and he sounds just like his grandpa!
Your Cheatin Heart ! Is a must listen to. I still play my old 78 vinyl album Your Cheatin Heart 1952 and Love Sick Blues..1948.
My step fathers dad, we called him Papa, was a "Studio Musician" for 3 of Hank's Albums, where most people have a picture of Jesus above their fireplace, we have A Picture of Papa with Hank, and The Guitar Papa Played with Hank.
Classic country!! ❤️❤️
People always talk about how he could take an idea and write a great song in no time and how impressive that is. But Chris Stapleton's wife pointed out the error in that thinking. People like Hank and her husband are so into music and have so much floating inside them they have access to new material faster than others who don't have that skill. Chris and Hank do not create new songs quickly. They simply find them and transcribe them in short periods of time. The songs exist inside them long before they were written down. That is what makes them so impressive.

it's definitely a Williams family tradition. Hank Jr. daughter Holly Williams is a unbelievable instrument player and singer. Her and Shooter Jennings did a live version of "The Conversation" by Hank Jr. and Waylon Jennings. Williams and Jennings bloodlines can lay it down.
When I was a kid, I referred to "Hank senior" as "ears". I'm ashamed of that now. Funny how time changes things. Peace, Love!!

A song you should check out is "There's a Tear in my Beer", by Hank Williams Jr, featuring Hank Williams Sr. They found an old recording of Sr singing the song, and using the same technology used to let Natalie Cole sing with her late father Nat King Cole, they did a duet of Father and Son singing together.
