    After watching her performance of "Creep" with PMJ 50+ times, I still think this one was wonderful to see and hear. I think Britt's was right when she said it sounds like Haley sings this song differently every time. This was slower, less dramatic in some ways, but still immensely satisfying. Lucky us, we don't have to choose one or the other - we get to watch both!

    The only reason why Haley didn't win American Idol is because American Idol permitted "almost unlimited power voting." Had American Idol only permitted "one vote per individual voting" instead, Haley would have won American Idol easily going away.

    She started to become well known when she was on American Idol several years ago. I still remember her version of "Bennie and the Jetts" on there as well as "House of the Rising Sun". She also covered "Can't Help Falling in Love" which was used by Wrigley in a beautiful commercial. Her performances with Postmodern Jukebox are all fantastic, which this one was based on, not sure if they are the band in this video or not.

  • @vidpie

    @vidpie

    Жыл бұрын

    Haley was commissioned to record "Can't Help Falling in Love" for the Wrigley campaign. The audio engineer said they only did two or three takes and there was "no comping," meaning they didn't splice them together to create the final version. That's who good she is. The song went viral and charted on the radio. It's been certified doulble platinum in Canada and she's still waiting for confirmation in the United States. Report: By now, you’ve probably seen the Wrigley’s Extra gum commercial that shows the love story of Sara and Juan. Set to a hauntingly beautiful cover of "Can’t Help Falling In Love" by American Idol alum Haley Reinhart, it earned over seven million KZread views and more than 78 million Facebook views (with over 1.1 million shares) within a week of its Oct. 8 digital release. The song alone sold 19,000 downloads in that time, debuting at No. 48 on Billboard’s Digital Songs chart. And that was before it hit primetime television Oct. 19. “In 20 years in marketing, I’ve never seen the consumer reaction I’ve seen this early with any piece of advertising I’ve been affiliated with,” said John Starkey, Wrigley’s vp of gums and mints. "We had the perfect song, the perfect voice and the perfect story," said Andrés Ordoñez, the evp and executive creative director of Energy BBDO, the Chicago-based advertising agency behind the campaign. ...The Energy BBDO music team, led by Daniel Kuypers, sorted through some 120 songs before settling on "Can't Help Falling In Love." They listened to “all three zillion covers and the original,” says Kuypers, but wanted something more contemporary and tailored to the spot. After listening to 35-40 artists, they commissioned demos from a handful. “My instructions were, ‘make me cry,'” says Kuypers. One of those artists was Reinhart. ...As it had happened, Reinhart was now signed to a publishing and recording deal with ole Media Management, who’d been actively pitching her to BBDO. Over lunch in Nashville with Randall Foster, ole’s senior director of creative licensing, Kuypers asked if Reinhart would be interested. By the following day, she delivered a demo with longtime collaborator Casey Abrams at the piano. BBDO loved it. They put the music to the storyboard and took it to Starkey. “Andres played the song and we said, 'That's it,'" Starkey recalls. ...Reinhart, who hadn’t seen the campaign up until that point, went back to the studio to re-record the track, to give it the intimacy the spot called for. ole pushed production, mixing and mastering and then pulled all its strings to get the single onto iTunes the same day the campaign launched on KZread.

I would maybe suggest Haley and Post Modern Jukebox performing "Don't Speak" to kind of cleanse your musical palate...then right back to Haley and PMJ doing "Creep". Then, perhaps Haley and PMJ performing a very special version of "Seven Nation Army", and "Black Hole Sun". Then invite Haley, Morgan James, Ariana Savalas and PMJ performing "All About the Bass". That'll get you started....and ready for Haley, Puddles Pity Party and PMJ singing "Mad World". Cheers...I look forward to following your journey!

    Not sick! For PMJ Creep fans, Haley officially answers an often mischaracterized ‘fact’ about the recording of their iconic cover of “Creep”: PMj had just done five shows on the road across Europe and she was feeling a little tired But she felt it was that she wasn’t feeling 100% that gave her that extra tug of emotion she needed for the performance. “It’s been five shows, I’m pretty tired, I don’t know about this one….when it comes to those kinds of performances, I always give it 100% but I think emotionally, I was in a different place and really challenging something because I didn’t feel quite 100%, as far as being tired. It’s always really unique because I get to take my own stab and do the vocal arrangement…we’d only done it a few times on the road before that video. Alot of it is very jazz, very impromptu”

The official PMJ one is a classic, of course but when you see many of her other performances of Creep with PMJ or with other bands and an audience, she always surprises. Haley is confident in her abilities as a singer. She needed that when she appeared on American Idol at age 20. She was given no backstory and was the only contestant routinely criticized. Typically for things like song choice to suggest she had given a bad performance when she had not. As a result, she finished in the bottom three a near record of times. It all came to a head on Top 4 night with Randy Jackson repeating his criticism in a shout. Then they brought all four contestants out right before her next performance so he could declare the other three had won the first round. (LA Times: 'American Idol' recap: What do the judges have against Haley?) Judge Steven Tyler though had Haley's back. He told Ryan Seacrest in an online interview that Randy isn't a singer. Then he added, "The best singers have character. If you watch Reinhart up there, every bad remark she gets rolls right off. That's how good she is." She ultimately finished third overall behind two teenage country music singers.

    I have been following Haley for a few years now and she is truly a one of a kind performer. I love her vocal gymnastics. You could react to this same song, different version with the band PMJ, as it is superior to this in audio by a mile and she does sing it differently as well. Also, Seven Nation Army with PMJ, and Don't Speak with that band as well. She is part of a trio of great singers in Its All About The Base with PMJ. Great reaction.

    This is based on the arrangement by Scott Bradlee of Postmodern Jukebox. You really need to see PMJ's version. She is really special in that video. You could spend a month just listening to the musical arrangements by Scott Bradlee. He did a new one everyweek for about 5 years before covid. Haley is the singer in about 10 or 12.

    This opens the door to Post Modern Jukebox, which is a hole with virtually no bottom. They take a song and redo it in a different style, gong all the way back to ragtime. The main guy is the piano player (Scott Bradlee), but they rotate though literally dozens of vocalists. She does a great duet with Morgan James of the Beatles "Dear Prudence." Morgan does Maps from Maroon five in the style of the 70's "Tower of Power" R&B/Soul. She also does Shut up and Dance sort of acapella. Ariana Savalas is the resident Torch Singer. Her versions of No Diggity, Pony, and Criminal are straight out of film noir For outfits, you should check Haliey's PMJ's version of Seven Nation Army. She also rocks the crap out of Black Hole Sun.

    This is a perfect example of how music is universal. This tune, the original from Radiohead is a very male oriented toon about a dude who feels less cuz he feels he doesn’t deserve his lady. This is the female version of that and a lot of men don’t even think their girl might feel that way. And while Radiohead originally made this to be a sad kinda rock tune. Ms hailey Reinhardt said “I can jazz up this tune and make it sexy”. The female voice.

    Season 10 in *2011. Haley auditioned for 2010's Season 9 but she was rejected by Simon and Randy. She recently revealed she thought she'd make it in S9 because Idol came to her home town and did a whole segment on her and her family. Most likely the reason Haley was rejected, S9 was also Simon Cowell's last season w/ Idol before he left to start "The Voice" so he submarined Season 9 by putting in acts that turned out to be, in my many people's opinion, Idol's worst season. Haley missed a sh!t show not making that season, but she lucked out w/ S10 because Simon was gone and replaced by Aerosmith's Steven Tyler, who championed Haley the whole season. They are still friends. Tyler not only referred Haley to his lawyer, who Haley still retains, and asked her to open for him in 2018 at a Summer festival show.

    @@bullfrog5037 I may be wrong, but isn't that why Randy Jackson and J-Lo tore her up on idol and then Steven Tyler would say they were full of crap. And then she got beat by a pair of country singers that weren't as good as she was? If she signs that contract, she wins Idol? Just something I heard...

  • @bullfrog5037

    @bullfrog5037

    Жыл бұрын

    @@allenwhitmer8192 No. It was the almost unlimited power voting that screwed her over. Had American Idol only permitted one vote per individual voting, Haley would have easily won hands down. There was this super large contingent of young female adolescents that every year always voted for only a young white male artist. In 2011, they voted Scotty first and Lauren second because those same young adolescent females were shipping Scotty together with Laura as a romantic couple. Hence, they made sure Haley would come in third place. Nonetheless, without almost unlimited power-voting, Haley would have won the show easily hands down. In fact, most people to this day still can't figure out how Haley didn't win American Idol and it simply was because of the almost unlimited power voting. Without that almost unlimited power voting, no way would Haley have been ripped off. As far as Randy goes, he was deliberately trying to get Haley voted off the show since her very first live performance, per the producers of the show. As the producers of the show wanted Haley voted off the show before anyone figured out how exceedingly talented she was relative to everyone else. Then later on after Randy had miserably failed to get Haley voted off, they also enlisted JLO to join Randy. Once that happened both Randy and JLO double teamed Haley a couple of times in attempts to get her voted off the show, but both miserably failed. Those attempts were exposed by several Internet Magazines covering the show at the time. As Lauren Alaina spilled her guts regarding the judges intentional mistreatment of Haley when Haley was clearly by far the most talented contestant on the show. As Lauren blames Haley more than anyone else for finishing in second place. She says without Haley mentoring her and teaching her how to sing, no way would she have finished as high as she did. Scotty says he always knew Haley was the most talented contestant on the show.
