Red Foxx (Fred Sanford) and Lawanda Page (Aunt Ester) had a long history together as comedic actors, long before Sanford and Son was created. By this time, they already had a well-seasoned chemistry as co-stars. Their comedic timing together was impeccable.

Lamont works in the junk business. Denim was a work fabric before it became DESIGNER FASHION. lol. But there’s episodes, that he wears casual suits and other things. But, most definitely, denim jeans and denim outfits were huge in the 70s.

I grew up in the 70’s and this show was really popular. Denim + denim was just fine back then and toward the end of the video, she was cleaning the carpet with a carpet sweeper/ carpet broom. They were used on flat rugs, (certainly not on deep or shag carpets). No electricity required, just elbow grease. 😊

Actress 'Lawanda Page' was a prominent stand up comedian who made her way up through small comedy clubs during the 1940's 1950's 60's and even 70's along with Red Fox who met her when they were both very young and began a lifelong friendship, Norman Lear the producer of 'Sanford and Son' hired both Red Fox and Lawanda Page for the show, Sanford and Son Tv show early ratings were through the roof, so much so the show lasted for six seasons, for those of us who grew up in the 60's and 70's the show was a staple to watch in most African American homes Lawanda Page died September 14th 2004 at age 87 Redd Foxx died October 11th 1991 age 68 they are both dearly missed by the African American community for their comedy impact to the genre and movie appearances. Also Brittreacts your skin is flawless, God bless you and your Family keep these reaction videos coming, i love it when you ask questions everyone already knows, its genuinely funny.....Kudos to you.

As a white kid back in the 70's this was my favorite show. This show came on every Friday at 8:00 pm on NBC. You have to realize back then there were only 3 channels and chances were everyone was watching or had at least had seen the same shows. Most TV's didn't even have a remote so you didn't flip through the channels. Then I couldn't have imagined what we would have today it was science fiction stuff.

The clip about "dilly dally" is a classic episode. Fred gets a visit from an old friend and he claims to have slept with Fred's wife and that Lamont is his son and not Fred's. Obviously this stresses Fred. At the end of the episode Esther, Fred and the guy have a chat and the guy talks about how he snuck into Elizabeth's room while she was sleeping. He described which room it was only to find out that he had accidentally snuck into Esther's room to do the deed. Pure comedy when Fred finds out it was Esther who he got lucky with.

Sanford and Son is part of a great decade in the 70s, the 60s was real good as well, when men were men and women were women and the TV shows showed that especially in the comedy ones. We as a nation was still trying to hold on to Christian values and comedy was mostly clean. The musical intro song for this show is one of the most recognized in TV history.

The "vacuum" is actually what they call a "rug roller." For normal carpet, the pickup roller brushes actually have stiff bristles and can be cleaned. I know this because I actually own one of them. And, depending on what restaurant you eat out at, like Bob Evans, during a shift, waiters or waitresses may use one to pick up light dirt after a party of people leave the table being swept. But it is a pure mechanical sweeper -- no electricity needed!

The actors, entertainers and so forth of that generation are second to none, todays don't even compare, what's more was the writers. Back then it was just good, pure, clean fun, today's world, Hollywood in general, is out of touch. The country was raised of Sanford and Son, Andy Griffith, Happy Days, the Waltons, Little House on the Prarie, and the list goes on, today's shows don't even hold a shimmer of light compared to the shows back then.

This show , Sanford and Son , The Jefferson’s , All in the Family ( oh Archie Bunker ) The Carol Burnett show Mary Tyler Moore show,Mash, Happy Days (with the Fonz,Fonzie,) were absolutely must watch shows , of course we only had three channels to choose from, another one you might know is Good Times there was a character on there JJ who used to say dy-no-mite we had a lot of shows with emphasis on making their audience laugh course we had our dramas too Rockford files with James Garner as the private investigator, was one, mmm the dramas aren’t coming to mind as quickly as the funny stuff Dallas , Falcon crest , Knots Landing, they were like nighttime soaps, I believe those came about at the end of the 70’s going into the 80’s and about the same timeframe, if I’m not mistaken as Charlie’s Angels and Threes company --oh and I have to put in for very very honorable mention for me for a couple of shows that really got to my heart and those would be Little House On The Prairie ❤❤and The Waltons ❤❤- GREAT T.V. these two programs kept God at the center of their shows and for me that’s what wins the day. We are so missing that these days and need it back desperately.

Donna was Fred's girlfriend. Donna was a nurse. The man in the brown jacket was Lamont's friend Rolo (Rah-lo). Fred couldn't stand him either.

The closest we come to seeing what Elizabeth looked like was the episode where Lamont put Fred in a senior citizen's home, and he had her picture on his nightstand.

Sanford & Son ran 6 Seasons(could’ve sworn it was only 5), and produced 2(?) unsuccessful spin-offs. All 6 Seasons are apparently streamable via Peacock. The writing was solid, but, the humor was just under the surface in S1, and got progressively better(along with the writing) with each Season. Halfway through S4, you’ll notice the audience applaud the cast members as they appear. You’ll fall in love with the characters, even the secondary characters.

Fun Fact: Redd Foxx was only 49 when this show started, the make-up was real good. His real name is John Elroy Sanford, Born in 1922. His father's name was Fred.

Redd AKA Fred was an excellent standup comedian. He was a good friend of Malcolm X, preceded Richard Pryor, and ad lib insults was his specialty. There’s skits where he pulled people out of the audience to act with him. He was on the Flip Wilson show as a HECKLER!!!!! He was doing live tv off the top of his head comedy. Redd Foxx based Fred Sanford on his real life brother. I think his brother’s real name was Fred Sanford lol😅

Thanks for the great reaction. I remember watching this in syndication in the 80s. This viewer thinks there's something magical about tears of laughter. And you're RIGHT about Baby Esther! Redd Foxx was a top comic in his heyday. Please check out the cool and funky theme song, if you haven't already. It uses this great baritone harmonica (i think), and it always makes me smile.

I am only guessing but I think Lamont's Denim is for moving junk around during the day when he is working. They do show him at night in episodes appearing a little more dapper than his usual Canadian groom look.

Ester is not bad looking with the wig off and the tacky cloths. It was all a get up to be in the character. Her stand up in the late 80’s and 90’s is raunchy as heck. You should check her out as a stand up. She was unfiltered. Great reaction Britt. ❤❤
