When Norm Macdonald was hired, they wanted each performer to be able to do two characters, and two celebrity impressions. He couldn't really do either, but he was hired as a writer. The only impression he could do was Burt Reynolds as his character from the movie Smokey and The Bandit. So he wrote Celebrity Jeopardy just to do his Burt Reynolds impression.

Christoph Waltz is a two time Academy Award winner and starred in two Quentin Tarantino films, "Inglorious Basterds" and "Django Unchained". He also starred in "Water for Elephants". Speaks multiple languages fluently. Burt Reynolds was a huge star and who in two movie franchises early in his career that featured him being a moonshiner who drove fast to avoid the police (the steering wheel reference). He also starred in later movies "Striptease" and "Boogie Nights". Sean Connery played James Bond in more movies than any other actor. Matthew McConaughey starred in a movie called "The Lincoln Lawyer" then became the spokesperson for Lincoln cars.

Norm's Burt is less about what Burt was really like and more of a "Norm thing" but it extended through quite a few of these Jeopardy skits. It's more based on the types of characters he would play (masculine idiot but guaranteed hero so there is an unwavering confidence in spite of plenty of counterevidence), more of a caricature of a couple traits than a real impersonation, but even without it being accurate it was great because it was so absurdist (like most "Norm things")

2015 was the 40th anniversary of SNL. Tony Bennett is a crooner from the '50's famous for the song " I Left My Heart in San Francisco." Bert Reynolds Was an actor from the 60's -2000's mostly comedies. He was considered a Sex symbol. His most popular movies were the Smokey and the Bandit series, Cannon Ball Run, The Longest Yard. (He was in Both). Christoph Waltz is an actor that you would most likely know from the movie Django Unchained. Where he played the character Dr. King Schultz. The actor playing Waltz was "Spot On!" Sean Connery does not have a bad reputation. It is just that the 1st time they used the Character on "Celebrity Jeopardy" , that character took a disliking to Mr Trebek. and from that point on he would antagonize him. It was kind of the same with the Bert Reynolds character, only it was the stupidity of him that drove Trebek mad!

Tony Bennett is the last of the old school crooners. You may have heard of The Rat Pack - Frank Sinatra , Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr. Tony was big the same time they were. He's been around for decades and did a duets album first with Canadian singer K. D. Lang then with Lady Gaga. He's also done some duets with the late Amy Winehouse. I think he did a duets album with a lot of different singers as well including AW. There are a few SNL skits of Alec Baldwin hosting The Anthony Benedetto Show where he potrayed Tony hosting a talk show. This reaction may be the hardest i've heard you laugh ! For the unaware, this series started out as a way to poke fun at the fact that the celebrity episodes of game shows (especially Jeopardy) dumb down the questions. It's partially because the celebs are playing for charity, and also keeps the celebs from looking bad in front of a live audience. A lot of them didn't get very far in school. Then it became more about the characters shown on the SNL sketches. Burt Reynolds and Sean Connery were regulars in the series, and a lot of other big name celebrities were made fun of too. They got Tom Hanks in a sketch to play himself, and it was great. They even got the real Alex Trebek when they thought they were ending the segment forever.

Burt Reynolds was partly responsible for the mustache craze of the 70's and 80's. Women loved him, men wanted to be him. He was a television actor (the star of "Dan August") who was launched into super stardom in the 70s after appearing as the first centerfold in Playgirl magazine. Norm's impression is scary good.

Tony Bennett is one of the great singers of all time, up there with Frank Sinatra. Tony just died about a year ago at 90 I think. That's Alec Baldwin playing him in the skit.

The reason Burt Reynolds was wearing a cowboy hat was because he wore one in "Smokey and the Bandit" , still considered one of his most famous movies . The Pontiac Trans Am he drove in that movie is famous too , and cars that are still around that are identical to it are considered collector's items , and are popular at classic car shows .

Tony Bennett is a old Big Band singer from the 1940s, the only reason I know is he is one of my grandmother's favorite musicians, he was holding the buzzer like that it indicate the character is so used to holding a microphone. Tony Bennett is known for the songs Rags to Riches, I Left my Heart in San Francisco, and many others, those are just the ones I hear most often.

Tony Bennett is a singer who also did duets including with Lady Gaga, he began his career around I think the 1940s or 50s. In this case, Alec Baldwin portrays Bennett 😂 The real Sean Connery is the original James Bond. Darryl Hammond also portrayed Phil Donahue and a few others. His favorite thing is to mock Trebek or his mother or to misread the categories.

year 2015. Look up Tony Bennett, he was a jazz singer for so many decades, is still with us barley, in his 90's now, suffering from Alzheimer's, he sang duets more recently with younger singers, esp Lady Gaga, and won a huge Grammy for that album. He took Lady Gaga under his wing and helped redefine and practically save her career. Burt Reynold was a major movie star of comedy and action films, had an infectious laugh, the women liked him, and they exaggerated him to the hilt. From Deliverance, a serious action film, or Sharkey's Machine, to the Smokey and the Bandit comedy movies, a comedy called The End, the Longest Yard, etc and his TV show evening Shade. At one time he played the blacksmith on the old westerns TV show "Gunsmoke." As a child, at one time, he lived in Lansing MI, my old home town, for a few years, before I was born.. Burt died a few years ago.

*For Sean Connery, look up, 'Sean Connery's views on women, relationships and masculinity" on here* *For Christoph Waltz look up, "Inglourious Basterds" (He's the extra evil German bad guy in that one.) and "Django Unchained". (He's the German good guy in that one.)* *For Burt Reynolds, just look up the trailers for "Smokey and the Bandit" & Cannon Ball Run"* *Those should give you a good idea of those guys.* *And, in the book, "Huckleberry Finn", the Black guy, who befriends Huck Finn is actually named, "N-word Jim". From what I understand, recent editions are finally omitting the first half of his name.*

6:11 So...Tony Bennett is the last of the great crooners of the 20th century, he's holding the buzzer like a mic, as you would when you are singing on stage. Burt Reynolds is driving in, it's a reference to his most well-known movie "Smokey and the Bandit". Burt's personality is pretty much like Norm portrays, kinda smart-alecy.

One of my old favorites was Sean Conner reading "An Album Cover" as "Anal Bum Cover." The older Celebrity Jeopardies were less crazy and parodied the show more directly, it was probably my favorite recurring sketch in the late 90's and early 2000's.

Wait a second....there was an SNL Jeopardy skit video she was reacting to? So I've always been a big fan of these Jeopardy skits that SNL has done. I'm sorry if this is out of line, but I can't stop staring at how amazingly beautiful this woman is. I suddenly feel as if the greatest poems ever written by man couldn't possibly have been given meaning without the author's witnessing her smile before penning the prose. I'm not trying to be some "creepy old man", but just a fan of such stunning beauty. I can't imagine how renaissance master's canvases could bring forth depth or dimension without having their eyes gaze upon this masterpiece of God's creation first. I apologize, if this makes anyone feel weird, but I just felt that I needed to pay her this compliment. I could just imagine what the Sean Connery character would say if he could see her. Lol
