We LOVED Vilnius! We went in the summer, but it looks beautiful this time of year. We had the best time there and ate SO much delicious food. I'd love to visit again someday!

@@ClairesFootsteps Vilnius is nice in winter too. I was there last year the week before Christmas and my wife is currently there for two weeks. Living in south Florida, I prefer the weather in the summer in Vilnius. 😂

I love watching news in hotel whenever I travel. It always trips me out when it comes to weather report as if until then everything was normal except that I didn't understood a word, but then the weather report comes in and the map trips me out for some reason, oh right I'm here. It's weird but I love it :D

Correction. The Soviets invaded first, then the Nazis, then the Soviets. Soviet forced demanded the right to station troops in Lithuania in exchange for returning Vilnius back to Lithuania from Poland (whole other deal where Poland invaded Lithuania and tried to take over all of it, but kept Vilnius for the interwar period). This agreement to regain Vilnius but allow Soviet troops to be stationed in the country resulted in the depressing saying of "We have Vilnius, but the Russians have us." Once the troops were stationed in the country, Russia does what Russia does best and forced a communist takeover and began the "destruction of the nation" where they started arresting, killing and exiling people deemed enemies of the state to Siberia. Not sure why this guide said that Lithuania asked for Russia's help, because that is NOT what happened.

Hey thanks for your comment. Yeah from further reading and research I think I may have misunderstood the guide. There was a lot of Lithuanian history to take in all at once! I'm cutting that part out of the video to avoid further confusion.

@@ClairesFootsteps happy to help :) I appreciate your care to correct this. Great video otherwise and I'm glad you enjoyed your stay. Last year Vilnius had greetings in many languages all over old town, but I didn't see them yet this year. We definitely keep things more humble in terms of decorations, but the Christmas spirit is there ^^ I recommend looking into the Užgavėnes festival which occurs at the end of Winter and is like our Halloween. If you ever do a return visit and want to experience a proper pagan celebration. There's even a fight between people dressed as winter and spring with lots of pancakes. Though summer solstice is a good alternative for warmer months.

No problem, I know it's a sensitive part of history so important to get the facts right. Glad you enjoyed the video otherwise! I absolutely loved Vilnius and will definitely be returning. Yes the Christmas spirit felt very strong throughout the city! That festival sounds great fun - that's actually around my birthday when my partner and I usually take a trip so we'd definitely think about going to it one year! And yes, I imagine it's completely different in summer too! I did love the skiing so close to the city centre though! :)
