Perfect reaction Brandon, it was a harmonica at the end man! Every instrument plays its part in the layers of melancholy & anger. This & Rudy are my favourite songs on this album of perfection. Thank you again sir, it's so good to hear the songs & see your blissed out visage 😊

Thanks so much Rich for your support and compliments! b.o.v.- haha, best description of me listening to these masterpieces 🤣
My all time favorite album by anybody!❤
This is how you close an album folks. The closing harmonica is the same as the opening harmonica that appeared in " School " . Also, their traditional concert closer, a bit of a different feel live, synths instead of a string section, John Helliwell's sax solo soars live, Roger Hodgson's guitar has more urgency, Rick Davies' piano and vocals superb. Melancholy is the perfect word for this song, Rick Davies had a gift for expressing it

Supertramp is one of the very best examples of how music was recorded in the 1970's. You can close your eyes and "see" where each instrument fits in the room. You can literally choose an instrument and listen to it through an entire song (Crime is the best recorded rock album in history in MY mind)...as a bass player Dougie (you were right, it's pronounced with an "ooooo") plays the most tasteful bass lines...just what is needed, never overplayed.
First album I purchased with my own money. Every single song is fabulous, 100% lost-in-the-sauce-able.

Wise choice!!
"Who are these men....of Lust...greed and glory? Rip off the masks....and let's see..........."....Brilliant......
Always been my favorite album, always hit personal & hard. I well recall rushing home with this, aged 19 & how this finale reduced me to uncontrollable tears. Now 70 it's forever been that way...utterly exhausted & defeated spiritually, sad beyond any normal sad. And now, all these years later, some young fella pops up out of nowhere to explain to me exactly what it is that's floored me each & every time....`It felt like all of humanity was mourning through music` That's kinda shockingly insightful...bless ya!
In the " shadow " of Hodgson's popularity (and sometimes agressive management's work ) so many fans can not recognize how amazing Rick was. If Roger was the " melody " than Rick was the " energy and rhytme " and he also gave us beautiful melodies , just listen to From now on , Downstream , Goodby Stranger , My kind of lady ,and so on . Both songwriters were geniuses but in a very different style .
I have been fortunate enough to have seen Supertramp “The Tramp” Live 4 times. Their live shows are a spectacle and brilliant. Each member is a musical genius. Rick Davies is my favorite keyboards player and John Helliwell is favorite Sax player. He is a blast to watch live. The bass and drummer are awesome and Roger’s guitars are superb. The only live show I put above Supertramp is Pink Floyd, who I have seen 4 times.
Dougie Thompson’s bass is so underrated.
Saw them live 3x in the 70's & 80's......Their first few albums were true Prog.....great musicians especially live. Crime is one of my GO-To Songs for best recordings too...on vinyl!!!!

One of the most underrated bands ever, fantastic music.
Excellent closer for an album - while the whole album is fantastic, I think you've heard the best tracks already.(just my opinion). Speaking about album closers though, I think their Breakfast in America has their most epic closer in "Child of Vision".

NOW THATTT'SS THE WAY YOU END A GR88888 ROCK ALBUM!👍 😊
Its the keys and wind instruments that underpin the Supertramp sound. Sure there are great drums, superb orchestral arrangements and even guitar solos but no band features keys and and wind instruments in quite the same way. The incessant piano riff in this song burns its way into your soul as everything else swirls around it. Brilliant song from a brilliant album that sits proudly in my top ten of all time.

"I was already soaring high ..." His eyes don't lie. Yes, that's the perfect way to enjoy this album.
What a way to end an album. I have always loved it and Bob's drums are imposing! Bob Siebenberg was friends with Thin Lizzy guitarist Scott Gorham since they were teenagers, both coming from Glendale, CA. Bob married Scott's younger sister Vicki, lol. Three years after this, Scott invited John Helliwell, Supertramp's saxophonist to play on the hit single by Thin Lizzy, Dancing In The Moonlight.

Simply one of the best albums of the 70’s. The equal of any of the great 70’s Pink Floyd albums.
Fabulous finale , no doubt. A very accurate thematic of our times I must admit. The greatest album from supertramp
Great, great song. Awesome reaction Brandon. As for more Supertramp, I again highly recommend the song “Brother Where You Bound “. It’s a 16+ minute masterpiece! You can’t go wrong with Rick Davies banging out the vocals and piano, amazing saxophone by John Helliwell and the guitar solos are done by no other than David Gilmour. At the time (1985), this was Supertramps’ longest song to date.

Supertramp is such an amazing band. Had the absolute pleasure of seeing Rodger Hodgson in concert at The Tivoli here in Brisbane. Haven't seen Rick live, but tunes like this one remind us he's not to be underestimated on vocals. As far a Supertramp goes Breakfast in America will always be my favourite album, but Crime of the Century is one that has grown on me with age.

Classic classic classic. I seriously considered taking up the piano first couple of times I heard this. As if the piano and strings aren't goosebumpy enough, in comes that sax to take it to new heights and bring it all home. I never tire of this one. Right up there with the very best progressive rock has to offer. Nearly 50 years old and it still kills!! 🎹 🎷

@@retroreactions.... I saw them perform this live in Chicago 1985. Rodger Hodgson (the high voice) had left the band by then so they did all Rick Davies songs. This was the encore, and it sounded perfect.. exactly like the studio version! I remember sitting there in awe with this beautiful spacey twinkling backdrop behind them. They were one of those bands that do not disappoint live. Perfectionists.

"Crime of the Century" is one of my top favorite albums from one of my very favorite bands. The album, "Even in the Quietest Moments" has a fair number of orchestral parts. Overall, they had a string of 5-7 magical albums, each one uniquely Supertramp. You have said more than once that you love orchestration in music. I strongly recommend that you listen to or react to the album, "Days of Future Past" by the Moody Blues. Seamless intertwining of rock and orchestral music, from all the way back in 1967. It is a concept album so it is difficult to name just one song. However, the song "Nights in White Satin" (shortened for radio version) was a big hit for them, and the song "Tuesday Afternoon" was also popular. The entire album is wonderful and stands the test of time, IMHO.

spend a time this album on a turntable, much better than high resolution or mqa. digital shit. actually I gone back to turntable and cancelled my tidal account. bring me back to real music. this is a great album!
I was 18 when this album came out, and I swear I wore out the vinyl from playing it so much! The beauty of records in those days is that the lyrics were printed on the inner sleeve so you could follow along as the song played. This album opened my eyes to the way humans were (are) raping the planet... "Who are these men of lust, greed and glory? "Rip off the mask and let's see. "But that's not right! What's the story; but there's you and there's me!" Nothing has changed there, has it?

The best A minor to F Major ad infinitum ending to a song (and Album) EVER. What an astounding group they were! ☮ [edit] Good catch on the harmonica at the end. Just a nice little Easter egg referencing the opening Track. You know, on these BIG albums you could REALLY pull in some traffic by reacting to the whole album sequentially (video per song, so to speak). A lot of your viewers, I suspect, grew up with these masterpieces and find the "lesser" songs just as important as the ones that garnered more radio-play. Asylum, Hide In Your Shell + If Everyone Was Listening are of equal value, for sure. Hide In Your Shell defined my school years.

One very unfortunate situation for this absolutely brilliant album is it came to be just around the same time “Dark side of the Moon “ was all the rage . ( admittedly fantastic as well ) but took the shine and attention away from “Crime”. Some parts of Pink Floyd’s is weaker then others, whereas “ Crime” is stellar throughout . Rudy is a sure fire masterpiece , as well as “ Hide in your shell “ “ If everyone was listening “ “ Asylum “ Probably song for song the most perfect album ever .
Sounds like Pink Floyd could have made this song.
