The harmonica is a goodbye to the "classic line-up" of Supertramp, just as the harmonica ushered in this era on "School." Bookends.

'Crisis, What Crisis' is a hugely underated album - I love it. After Roger left, 'Brother Where You Bound is good', as is Roger's first album "In The Eye Of The Storm', but after that, not alot was ever as good as their best. Roger's 'Open The Door' in 2000 WAS though, an interesting return to The Supertramp sound.

Roger Hodgson's bittersweet goodbye to Supertramp. John Helliwell nails his solos, per usual, RH's guitar solo up to the task. Rick Davies outstanding on organ too. Occasionally, on the tour that followed this album, as the closing drums went on,they would leave the stage one by one until drummer Bob Siebenberg was the only one on stage... powerful musical theater Another must from the Famous Last Words album: " Waiting So Long ", which preceded this song on the album. Fantastic bluesy/jazzy number with a great guitar solo to close it out

Fantastic, beauty and emotional song, one more of many from Supertramp discography, "C'est le Bon" is another super shinning 5 GR, "Waiting So Long" is a great Rick Davies "way" composition, "Know Who You Are" is as beautiful and fantastic as Don't Leave now, but... but... "Bonnie" is the TOP OF THE TOP of this album.

I used not to put "Bonnie" at the top, but Brandon's reaction made me want to listen to this album again, I did so, and my more mature ears now agree with you. It was the track I liked the most to revisit. "Bonnie" is incredible! Just that very sophisticated instrumental bridge alone is worth the song, but the arrangement is so lush, and Rick's interpretation so heartfelt, too!

Love the slow quiet intro with the sax solo creating the bluesy mood. Then it rather explodes into the melody. Later the sax comes back with its soulful lament repeated by the guitar. The drums leaving at the end just sounds hopeless.

I saw Roger play at his alma mater, Stowe School in England a few years back; while he there as a lad, it inspired such songs as 'School' and 'The Logical Song'. There wasn't a big radio hit from the album 'Crisis, What Crisis?' but there's so many great tracks on it - do delve into that one for sure. And how about how about the song 'Downstream' by Rick from 'Even In The Quietest Moments' Happy New Year - just subscribed!

Classic in the chord progression, like a jazz standard but that sounds rather pop and emotional. The saxophone always gives that jazz feelings into the mood, Hammond organ coming in was probably played by Rick Davies. Guitar solo could have been played by himself on another track on the recording over the piano, he needs probably a guest for live situations. Finale sounds more atmospheric like Pink Floyd, with big reverb on the drums after the chords change and fades out delicately, nice composition. That last harmonica must be a reminder when everything began on "School" for their fame with that line up, but appears like a goodbye for Roger. And that were true, for the famous last words even if everyone would have loved him to stay for a while on the Supertramp adventure. From there the band sound changed forever

While "Famous Last Words" isn't my favorite Supertramp album, this is not to say that I don't like it. It has nothing as outstanding as what they did in "Crime of the Century" or "Even in the Quietest Moments", which are both rich platinum lodes, but it's a very coherent album and a delight to listen from start to finish. "It's Raining Again" was the most successful single from this album, and I can understand why, because it's totally catchy and more sticky than chewing gum! It was all the time on the radio when it was released, and I didn't complain! But there are many other delights in it, like, for example, "C'est le Bon", a Roger Hodgson song that features an innovative use of the acoustic guitar to lead the song and create an atmosphere, "Put On Your Old Brown Shoes", a Rick Davies track with a cool jazzy feel (as is often the case with Rick's songs), "Bonnie", another little gem by Rick, a delicate and heartfelt pledge of love, "My Kind of Lady", another delight by Rick that sounds like something out of a merry Broadway musical revue, and "Waiting So Long", which surprised me with a TANGO in the bridge, something I had not heard yet with Supertramp! "Don't Leave Me Now" isn't my favorite song from this album, but I don't dislike it. It features one of their famous elaborate outros, and this one is particularly creative because it tells you that even as the guy was pleading for his lover not to leave him, she was already leaving, and when he realized it, she had already left. Finishing a story without words in this way was a touch of genius!

@@retroreactions...., oh, there are many songs worth a reaction in the album. I don't think I'd give platinum status to any of them, but I'd give five golden records to all (except perhaps "Know Who You Are", which is below the level of the rest and feels out of place in the album). After writing my previous comment, I missed listening to this album, and I listened to all my recommendations above (which I hadn't done in years). I was particularly pleased to revisit "Bonnie", which sounded lusher than I remembered (and it's actually about someone with a heavy crush on a movie star, almost to the point of stalking). I loved how Rick sounded deliberately tired at the end after telling Bonnie (or imagining telling her) how he loved her so many times and in so many different ways throughout the song. And the bridge is spectacular! However, I'd advise you to first start reacting to "Crisis? What Crisis?", the underdog of Supertramp's albums, heavily panned by the critics and mostly excluded from their collections and concerts. I find that highly unfair. It's true that it's somewhat irregular and not very cohesive, and it committed the deadly sin of ending with two sad and introspective songs, but it's still a DELICIOUS album with several platinum-worthy moments (I think I'd give a platinum award to at least five songs from it: "Sister Moonshine", "A Soapbox Opera", "Another Man's Woman", "Lady", and "Poor Boy", four golden records to "Easy Does It", and five to "Two of Us" and "The Meaning" - the two sad songs). I had already recommended "Another Man's Woman" to you because I know you love Supertramp's long outros, and it has IMO the best Supertramp outro of all (it gives the one in "Child of Vision" a run for its money!), but I'm sure you'll love how intricate and multilayered "A Soapbox Opera" and "Sister Moonshine" are, how "Lady" will make the normally so restrained Brandon shake and dance whether you want it or not ("Lady" is probably Supertramp's most danceable song, and it's delicious!), and how simple but effective "Poor Boy" is (this song has the power to uplift me so much when I need it!). "Two of Us" was cut short and not applauded in the legendary Paris concert, the audience reacted coldly to it, but I find it so delicate and beautiful. I find "Crisis? What Crisis?" a criminally underrated album. Be sure to check the cover art, too - one of the most genius album covers I've seen.
