Even In The Quietest Moments - This song is so quintessentially 70s. There is no other decade that produced this glistening laid-back yet deep intense and dreamy sound and sensibility. People can imitate it but the mojo is all back then.

So true and the song that got me interested in the band along with Give a Little Bit. I listened to the whole album on a local FM radio station in 1977.The beginning of this song reminds me of the beginning of the title tune to The Clise to the Edge song by the prog. Rock band YES!

Yes! I've watched a few from the Paris concert, AMAZING talent....I'm so glad you enjoy my content, thank you so much for your support!! 💙
Quietest Moments is my favorite Supertramp song. So peaceful and hypnotic. Moody Blues-type of song!
Not a highly publicized bassist however, Dougie Thompson's bass line in this is sublime, not overly penetrating but so sweet how it meanders through the song.
Dreamer, the Wurlitzer electric piano dominates, a Supertramp trademark. When Roger Hodgson plays it, it is almost like a percussion instrument. Lyrically, despite the happy melody, a bit of angst and criticism are being expressed, unexpected...good. One of eight masterpices from " Crime Of The Century ", their masterpiece of masterpiece albums. EITQM features Hodgson's masterful 12 string acoustic guitar skills(wish he'd done that a bit more) and Rick Davies on organ is just right. Lyrically, a song of spiritual searching, that extended vocal section really makes the song sparkle. Hodgson as a solo artist has live versions, worth a listen(his voice has held up pretty well over the years) A bit of trivia about the EITQM cover: the sheet music depicted is actually " The Star Spangled Banner "

Nice! I've been to CO a couple of times, including last year! Beautiful peaceful state!
Just listened again. Was the outtro lifted from very early Floyd 'Set the controls for the heart of the sun?' Musically similar too. Loved them, just a notch behind Genesis and Floyd, not quite their rich grandeur and big finishes.

Steve Miller Band is another band you may or may not be familiar with to add to your list. Another of my go to bands in the 70's/80's. Great choices are "Rock'n Me", "Swing Town", "Jungle Love", "Serenade", "Abracadabra", "Fly Like an Eagle", "Take The Money And Run" and "The Joker"

Hello. Yes I've had them on my to do list since the beginning of my channel basically. I know most of their big hits though. Out of your list, I think I have not heard Jungle Love and Serenade, so thanks for the guidance! Abracadabra is EPIC and I've loved it since it was new!

Enjoy watching your thoughtful and complete yet succinct rxn vids -tks. The acuity of your ear and accurate id of the many instruments heard, comparison, and musical techniques is something i have not found on other rxn vid channels. As band and concert musician in late 60's/ early 70's, i have always had a soft spot for prog rock so your retro rxn to me are the best. I agree and have always felt lyrics in "...Quietest Moment" are spiritual in nature but disagree, it's not a spiritual suffering but instead heartfelt prayer of person understanding the human condition and ultra thin veil betw our everyday consciousness and all too rare oneness experience that's always in us but masked behind the veil. Thanks again!

Hello there! Thanks so much for those wonderful compliments. I try hard to give thorough and honest reactions, so I appreciate you recognizing it. Yes, those lyrics were a bit vague, so it's something I could easily misinterpret on quick 1st read. The love songs are usually the easiest to decipher haha....Peace!
What a criminally underrated band, brilliant music.

Dreamer is from their BEST album. Even in the quietest moments us narveloys too. I wouldnt have minded two videos here.
SUPERTRAMP: Wonderful keyboard (electric piano) and synthesizer 😉. Cosmic and Magical! "Dreamer", an anthology piece. And what about all those professional rock music reviewers who consider "Fool's Overture" and "Even In The Quietest Moments" to be rather negligible compositions by the band? Totally incomprehensible and distressing. Thanks.

Quietest is their best song, even if subjective. Those who are old souls prefer it.
Great band, like ELO really unique sound but I've heard on the net they can be a bit heavy on copyright, so tread carefully (apparently so can The Eagles).
@retroreactions....
Жыл бұрын
Luckily I have had no issues with ST, thanks for the heads up though. Of course the copyright holders take any money made on my video, including for all MY content. But that's all part of the reaction game. Eagles I probably will never touch because they issue actual strikes which can get a channel terminated...Thanks Mark
"Dreamer" was a highlight on "Crime". The first two records (1970 and 1971) were musically immature. For their third album, Hodgson and Davies made some line-up changes, they also changed the musical style significantly, and the result was "Crime Of The Century", one of the finest albums of the time. "Crisis? What Crisis?" was still able to keep the artistic standard. With "Even In the Quietest Moments" there were already the first creative problems. "Breakfast In America" was commercially very successful. But the changeover to quite shallow, chart-oriented pop songs was already recognizable. After that, the band only produced musical mush. But I still enjoy listening to "Crime" today.

Both great songs. “EITQM” is I think an under appreciated gem.

Fitting background. Dreamer is a song that stood out on the album as it was released as a single. Crime of the Century as the most easygoing of them all. Great song. The entire album Crime of the Century is best enjoyed in one single session as it, in my view, follow Rudy from young to older song by song. The drummer is Ben Siebender. Even in the quiet moment is a song that never gets old.

Yea..like how it transitions into Rudy...School so far my favorite COTC!
"Dreamer" was my favorite Supertramp song until I heard "Child of Vision." I love when they sing back and forth at each other. It's almost a trademark. I've never heard any other group do it as much as S-T does. You might say this song is unusual for a Supertramp song in that it has no sax or clarinet.

Two great tracks but not my faves. Preferred 'Crisis' and 'Crime of the Century' overall. I've always wondered about 'Quietest moments'... @@bigjapi1Babaji is an incredible song!
Rather than reacting to a pair of disparate songs by the same artist, have you considered reacting to a pair of songs with the same theme? - e.g. for 'the finding and sullying of paradise' - 'Telegraph Road' by Dire Straights & 'The Last Resort' by The Eagles?
Again buddy… nice picks today! Been a great week so far. I saw a recommendation for “Easy Does It” and “Sister Moonshine”…. I definitely second that suggestion. Especially liked EITQM.. loved the clarinet, something you don’t hear often. Maybe next Supertramp you’d be up for a lot of Helliwell sax and David Gilmour solos…. there’s always that 16+ minute masterpiece “Brother Where You Bound”. I know I sound like a broken record, but I know you’ll find this an epic song. Lol
