They were young asf. 😁 And a hardcore rap duo. They were Mobb Deep before Mobb Deep. They had a big song that year called "We Gets Busy".

Another shout out to kurupt too. He killed every song he was on. I look forward to your 2001 review. Btw, im from NY. Good music is good music. I was 20 when this album came out. I bought it the day it dropped, and it became one of the albums that made up the soundtrack to my youth. Great album. Speaking of great albums (lol) you neeeeed to react to Ice Cube's first 4 albums. But, I think it's important to go in order of release, because it shows Cube's growth over time. Start with Amerikkka's Most Wanted, then Death Certificate, The Predator, and finally Lethal Injection. You will not be sorry. I consider the first three to be absolute classics, and the fourth one is fire too.

Hey Ahmad, what you are listening to is the watered down version of Dr Dre's original production for the album. ----- The reason being, about 70% near competition of Doggystyle version 1, someone leaked the album and It forced Dr Dre to create an entire new set of tracks. ----- Especially the lead single, which is why, "What's my name sounds like a rushed Dr Dre production effort. -------- I can't even imagine how mindblowing the original production must have sounded.

Kurupt is Philly, born LA. raised, thats why his bars sound like that, I think he moved ro L.A. close to his teens so he mixed that East Coast spit game with West Coast slang and style and it became Kurupted. But Doggystyle is not just one of the best raps ablums ever produced song for song and musiclally, it'll probably give alot of albums a runs for its money that you dont have to skip a song..and so many singles.

I'm a white guy from Germany who was visiting his uncle in L.A./California in 1991. I was 16 years old at the time I listened to stuff like De La Soul or MC Hammer. My two cousins were a bit older and didn't like black music, but they took me to a record shop and showed me the new album by NWA "Niggaz4Life" and said "This is real rap". I took it to Germany and have been a fan of West Coast hip hop ever since. I devoured everything that came out of LA since then, including the first albums by Dr Dre, Snoop Dog, Warren G and Nate Dogg. I'm 47 years old today and that G-Funk sound still catches me today.

I hope some young people understand why we who lived at that time have a hard time with rap today. In the 90s, there were a lot of powerful and unique albums. And great and very inspired artists. Frankly I say it myself concerning rap I stopped at the 90s and the beginning of the 2000s.

Great review as always King, glad you enjoyed this classic album. But if haven't heard "G'z up, hoes down" yet from Snoop, I highly recommend you do a reaction to that as well. As folks already mentioned in the comments, it was a part of the original release for Snoop's Doggystyle album. And as previously stated, was removed from all future releases of the album due to a sample issue! But no review/reaction to Doggystyle would truly be complete without hearing & reacting to it also, trust me you won't regret it!
