Doggystyle certify Deathrow's flag in the sand of hip hop. Like Snoop was like the biggest star of 93', well 94' I should say'. He got to make a movie "Murder was the case" and the soundtrack was banging too. Being on Martin. Freestyling on Arsenio Hall. Snoop was everywhere. Snoop's flow was so flawless. It was effortless the way he spit. Plus you got the D.O.C help construct his rhymes and make a long freestyle into 3 verses. So Deathrow had a good team. The D.O.C and Dr.Dre meets the D.P.G= perfect combination. 4x Platinum, 100,000 out the gate.

Doggystyle is the first rap album I remember listening to. This is a classic, no question. I don't have to be in a mood to listen to this. I can throw this on anytime, but then again, I grew up on soulful, jazzy, funky hip hop.

I was in 3rd grade when this dropped. I remember being in school & sneaking this on the headphones with my classmates. Pittsburgh was big on Snoop for a few reasons. A lot of funk originated in Ohio. Pittsburgh native Sam Sneed appeared on the album and was involved in the production along with Dre, Daz & Warren G. And Snoop is a huge Steelers fan and loves Pittsburgh. Dre ended up scooping a ton of rappers & producers from Pittsburgh because of working with Sneed & seeing how much other talent was here.

i hear what myke is saying and hes not wrong that the Gfunk sound wasnt auto a WC sound but everyone missed the point that it was a Compton sound. Gfunk sound was used by any rapper from SCLA to Watts and Long Beach that was part of the G culture and rapped about it. Myke was up north, he didnt see how influential that chronic album was down in Southern CA but up north they saw it boomin b4 the rest of the world did (im guessing since they up north). thats why i understand everyone else saying its automatically a wc sound to them. Doggystyle followed the same success chronic had but snoop was what LA was at that time (still is) and people followed. the whole dog pound was that.

Even if Daz and Warren G did all of the beats for this album, Dre still PRODUCED it. Snoop explains it in an interview that he did with DUB Cnn back in 2008.
