Diamonds Are Forever - from James Bond. You'd LOVE that.

Shirley was 60 when this was recorded having been having hits since the 1950s and in 2020 with her album I Owe It All To You she became the first artist to have top 40 albums in 7 consecutive decades She has a monster powerful voice which retained into her 80's. Pretty amazing artist.

Shirley Bassey is a legend and a national treasure in England. She is the voice of a couple of James Bond themes....

Propellerheads were awesome - they only put out one album in the late 90's as electronic music was mainstreaming - they made one record but it was lethal stuff. Their best song and most popular is called "Take California" - some amazing beats and build up - check it out!

The unusual and amusing video is a 'pastiche' on an earnest BBC 2 late night jazz programme from, I'd guess, around 1968-1970. Well done, Dame Shirley, for seeing the funny side and agreeing to do it!

Dame Shirley Bassey, she is THE voice, now 85 years old but she still got it. If you ever watched elderly James Bond Films, you surely heard her before. She sang the title music from the films Goldfinger, Diamonds are forever and Moonraker. Beside this she made a song together with the famous Switzerland Band named Yello, the name of the song is A rythm divine.

I do believe its live. Brilliant.

Love your intro music. I heard that track a long time ago on a NYC radio station. I recorded it on cassette tape, lol, but never knew who it was. Can you tell me who it is? Is it Tribe Called Quest? Regarding the song you are reacting to by the Propellerheads . Wow, I hadnt heard that track in a long time either! I use to rock that back in the day. Making me want to dig into my CD collection, lol.

This song came out in 1997 or 98.

It's a modern video made to look like an old Brit TV show. You'd like her version of "Get this party started."

Shirley is such a badass.

I was sure you would like this one more. I must of listened to it 20 times after requesting. Primarily as you say, for that voice. Just wanted to get your reaction from mixing the old with the new. I have a few more i'm thinking of requesting.

Listen to Shirley Bassey sing her signature songs-she recorded the theme songs for three James Bond films: Goldfinger, Diamonds are Forever and Moonraker. In addition to her dynamite voice, her stage presence/performance is unequalled. 💎

There is a odd, interesting album/group from England in the 80's called Colourbox (1982) by Colourbox. The singer has serious pipes and these guys did some early and influential sampling, for which they spent years in court. Their music has a British eighties vibe to it, though, which will appeal or not based on taste. "Say You" and "Arena" are singles and are most accessible, but they don't capture all the band's strengths which can be seen when the 1st 2 tracks are played back-to-back, for example. "Manic" and "Inside Informer"are my faves.

the video itself was set up as a parody of an old BBC series, "Jazz 625" -- if you ever wanna do a deep dive into some legendary jazz performers with some live performances, it's worth a look.

That scene of the shootout with Neo running up the wall in The Matrix... Wouldn't be the same without Propellerheads' "Spybreak"!

I loved this song by The Propellerheads ft. Shirley Bassey from the moment I heard it years ago! I bought the cd within a few days of hearing it for the first time.

Whatever happened to the Propellerheads? Probably the same way as every other electronic pop act who thought it was a good idea to have a DJ pretending to be a musician.

I guess you have to be a little older for the lyrics “I’ve seen it before, and I’ll see it again” to be as resonant and poignant as they are to us seniors. 😊
