I have read most of the comments and I agree with them all. She is much better to watch than just hear because she is very much a live performer. During the 1970s she became a gay icon and many drag queens used to copy her.

That is SUCH a hilarious first song to hear by her, cause it's a song that encourages singers to be quite subdued and conversational, which really does not prepare you for her sheer power

Yes, she is. Dame Shirley told a story of how when she was growing up in music class her teacher told her to stand in the corridor as her voice was too powerful in the music class next to her classmates.

If "I did it my way" it is your first and only performance that you've seen/ heard by Shirley Bassy; you haven't seen anything yet! Highly, highly recommend you critique her live performance of hit sond "this is my life" as she delivers it in English and Italian. She is not only a Dame of the British Empire, France awarded her the French Legion of Honour. I associate My Way with Frank Sinatra, i would have suggested This is My Life ( La Vita) for first time listening. What puts her apart from other divas is her absolute passion, class and elegance. I read somewhere that Frank thought the song was too self-indulgent and didn't quite like it, but he recognized that it would be a hit and still recorded it. I kinda agree that on paper they seem a bit too grandiose to sing about oneself, but I think Shirley's way of singing them makes it work so well. In her voice, it sounds very emotional and self-reflective rather than self-indulgent

I have loved Shirley Bassey since I first saw her in London when I was a child. She had her own shows on British TV in the 60's. She sang the theme of three Bond films. Choose any song on the net and you won't be disappointed. Watch out, though, once she captures you she captures for ever!

She is simply iconic, a Welsh singer from Tiger Bay in Cardiff (just down the road from me) and I grew up listening to her. Dame Shirley visited the Royal Mint a few weeks ago, they've minted some special coins with Dame Shirley one side and our King who's she's known for many years on the other. Only a few groups and singers have had this honour, this celebrates Dame Shirley 70 years in the business

Like the Queen she’s been around all my life since the 60’s. At school we used to call her Burly Chassis. For obvious reasons. She was/is/forever will be a stellar artist. Wales blessed the world when it gave you Richard Burton Tom Jones and Shirley Bassey.

Wales’ or UK’s Streisand, from interviews I’ve seen with her I consider her to very proud of her Tiger Bay and Welsh roots. I’m sure the English appreciate her talent though.

Good old Shirl! Love her. If you plan to take a deep dive into her back catalogue, don't forget to watch her singing The Living Tree during a Royal Variety Performance. Believe it or not, this was a good performance but nowhere near her best. She sings from her soul and often cries when she sings. It's sort of primal, for want of a better word.

Why My Way was so poignant because if you know her history- born black in tiger bay wales ( rough life) . Treated like crap. Now Dame Shirley Bassey lives in Monaco. Her daughter died mysteriously in her 20s. This lady has lived through prejudice, poverty she is a Queen not a DBE. Amazing and so sincere. Apparently a vocal coach said she could have done opera but she came from the slums of Wales- not possible in those days. I love her so much! Xxxxxxxx

That’s terrible! You can’t even compare Dame Shirley to Taylor Swift. Only singer to do 3 James Bond themes. However she’s British ( Welsh) and it amazes me how few American music reactors have heard of her! You should see her at age 85 sing diamond’s are forever at the 2022 BAFTAS. Incredible.

Your opening theme music needs to be turned down a bit - it rattles my woofers and I rush to turn everything down, and it is not balanced with your ensuing speech and music sharing. Shirley is a gay icon - Goldfinger!

Not taking anything away from Dame Shirley. It is a very good interpretation of this song. But for me personally, Elvis did it better. I think he’s rendition ca not be out matched. If you haven’t seen it do yourself a favour and watch it. I suggest the live Aloha concert. The passion, emotion the nuances in his voice that he emits is on another level. What the great man delivers in this song is second to none. You absolutely feel that he singing about his life.
