    That movie would have kids these days in an uproar or traumatized. They would also not even get it. But I understand your sentiment. I mean could you imagine showing them The Trial at the end...a giant rectum with teeth and legs condemning a doll to be exposed before his peers? OMG lol

    What a song. Roger Waters wrote it about his experience being given tranquilizers to help his anxiousness before a performance in the 70s. It’s sung from the perspective of “Pink” who is the main subject of the album/movie.

    So many guitarists “communicate” with their guitars, like Stevie RV and Eddie VH, but David Gilmour’s solos just hit differently. It’s like he has a special license from the universe to address the heart. Thanks for the video, hun.

    'Pink Floyd The Wall' is a concept album about a rockstar going slowly insane and constructing a metaphorical wall in his mind against reality. It is a double album and considered a masterpiece. This song occurs about 2/3 of the way into the story. Pink the Rockstar is now barely in touch with the world and a doctor is called in to give him something to get him through the next show. The lyrics are the words between doctor and patient. • "Is there anybody in there? Just nod if you can hear me". • "There is no pain you are receding, a distant ship smoke on the horizon. You are only coming through in waves. Your lips move but I can't hear what you're saying". Roger Waters is one of the most brilliant prolific lyricist in all of Rock. And David Gilmour's voice and guitar interprets his words just as brilliantly. His guitar isn't just another guitar, it's another voice.

    Outstanding choice!! And many are correct that you haven't lived until hearing the live versions of this brilliant song. Back in 2000 they released, long after Roger Waters left and long after the movie release, they put out a full live version of the album recorded during their 1980-81 tour and it includes songs that didn't make the original release but the live version of Comfortably Numb sent chills in me and there are images of a young David Gilmour playing his brilliant solo on top of the massive wall built on the stage. Like their previous albums this was based on a bit of Syd Barrett's spiral in madness but also Waters own issues. They say that The Final Cut, which followed The Wall, was their last album together but I view this one the actual last. Waters was so combative with the other members that producer Bob Ezrin, who had produced albums for Alice Cooper, Kiss, Aerosmith, Dr. John, and many others, to help to keep the peace. Weirdly, after working for them, he was hired by Kiss to get them back on track after several missteps but he was so excited about working on The Wall that he suggested they do a concept record similar to Floyd and Cooper but Kiss has never been that type of band. Kiss had fired their original drummer Peter Criss and replaced him with Eric Carr and their popularity had diminished from '78 to '80 because they'd gone softer but what was wild was that Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons, who never did any drugs, thought it was a good idea but lead guitarist Ace Frehley, who was a serious drinker and drug user, thought it was a bad idea. It was. Music from the Elder by Kiss is one of their worst albums, which is saying something, and lead to Ace leaving the band. Going back to Floyd, two things, the movie is brilliant but very depressing, but also, thanks to modern tech, someone pointed out that you play the album on repeat there is a voice that says at the end "Isn't this where," and at the beginning, "we came in?" Some say that after Pink tore down his wall that someone else was beginning to build their own wall, or, even darker, that Pink didn't really tear down the wall and was forever stuck in a loop of his madness. Sorry for the long comment. Keep it up my friend.

Watching it explains the story of why this album is what it is. Great album, great story, from start to finish!!! Tool is the Yang to Pink Floyd’s Yin. LIKED SUBBED SHARED Yeah, I'm glad you will go back to The Dark Side of the Moon album. If I may suggest a listening process. That album actually plays as one long song with no real pauses, the songs blend into each other so one listen straight through is best. Two other ways to do it are; #1- do it one album side at a time, 21 minutes each side approx.. ( Side 1 has 5 tracks, Side two has 5 tracks) or #2 Do tracks 1,2 & 3 together, then do tracks 4 & 5 together, then do track 6 by itself (you will get pushback to this) I believe tracks 7 thru 10 must be listened to as 1 piece... So welcome to the complicated deep world of Pink Floyd.. after you listen to the album, you will understand why listening this way helps.

  • @artao5
    @artao5Ай бұрын

    You got it pretty well, tho there's layers missing, particularly about the exhaustion of constantly touring in a popular band. But even more than the rest of Pink Floyd's albums, The Wall needs to considered as a whole. There's context missing when listening just to the song. And it fades out like that at the end because it's leading directly into the next song, no stopping. It only does that for the single, not in the full album. The movie is really the ideal way to experience the full thing, but even just the full album is a helluva thing. During this song he (Pink) is just sitting in a chair passed out -- probably overdoesed on something -- as people try to rouse him for a show, until a doctor injects him with some stimulant to get him going then stage hands put new clothes on him and carry him off to the show as he hallucinates that his entire body is decaying and being eaten by maggots. Helluva thing. In college circa 1990 I would sometimes listen to it when I was super depressed because the album is SO dark it made me feel better cuz at least I'm not THAT bad.

    This is another awesome song from Pink Floyd, but you really need to hear it within the proper context--ie while listening to the album ("The Wall") in its proper order. "The Wall" is a concept album, telling a story from start to finish, and this is just one piece of the whole, a chapter if you would. So taking it out of context like this can make it harder to understand the lyrics.
