If you like this one, you’ll like Light in the Hallway. There is a live performance recorded on a cell phone, no official video. It was written by Scott for his nephew, it’s a lullaby, and he wrote it for Avi to sing. It is beautiful, I tear up every time I hear it.

I was so excited to see you react to this one. Avi and Kevin wrote it, and it's probably my favorite song from Pentatonix. It's just so beautiful. I've also heard that they had to learn to mouth the lyrics backward during the chorus, so when the snow was falling up, it looked like they were singing the right lyrics.

That's true. In order to make it look like the snow was falling up, the chorus had to be filmed and reversed, so they all ( I think...certainly Mitch and Kirstie did) had to lipsynch "run to you" backwards. Apparently not easy. Gorgeous, hauntingly beautiful song.

Checkout their song Happy Now! It’s one of their newer originals and it’s such pure pop perfection. I can’t believe they only get radio play during the holidays because they deserve it with their originals!

@@madenabyss6981 if you are familiar with old interviews you will find some where Avi and Kevin talk about how they wrote this and brought it to the group. The group always accredit their work to the whole group but if you look at how each songwriter is listed they are listed in order of their contribution. Avi is listed first on this song.

They usually record separately, but for this one they were all in the studio singing together.

Thanks for the reaction. Avi and Kevin wrote this. Avi is the most involved in songwriting of the group and since he left almost everything he performs are his original songs. In college with a double major of choral director and opera when Pentatonix was formed for the 2011 SingOff Acapella competition. Hair and beard length on Avi is a good way to tell what year it is for the first 6 years. If you ever react to Avi's solo work you will see what he looks like now. "Change On the Rise" is very cinematic and his most popular or When I'm a Fool Live at Sunset Sound Studios was just recorded in June.

My daughter's high school Chamber Choir downloaded the sheet music from the PTX page and sang this! It was awesome. ❤

Everyone in the group can write music, if I remember correctly this is mostly Avi and Kevin. And if you listen to Avi’s solo music (I hope you will!) you’ll recognize his style in a lot of the PTX music.

Avi's solo music slaps but you are insinuating he developed or wrote the music and directed all compositions. So then: "HIs style"? Like the rest of PTX just sat there and played a part, then provided their voice, and said ok that's enough. PTX has developed their style of composition in unison with Ben. (I forget his name) Avi's music slaps because he employs the style he learned while working in unison with "Ben" and all members of PTX.

Here are some others you MUST watch: “Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies” and “Love Again” for sure. I also recommend Avi’s “Change in the Rise”.

Please do the reaction to the recording of Evergreen. It's wonderful and really shows their creative process. There is a scene where they get chills hearing THEIR own voices. It's way cool. Evergreen is also the album that they are nominated for a Grammy. The whole album is magical. Before the first song there is the sound of a match lighting a candle. After the last song, you hear them blow it out. I thought that it was super clever and the perfect way to tie it all together. Like a bow on the most beautiful Christmas packed ever. I hope that you can get it posted on KZread. I believe that it is a Pentatonix owned short film. And that SME doesn't have rights to it. But, I don't know for sure. The second that I saw that you reacted to this I came running because this is still one of my all time favorites of theirs. It’s been absolutely wild for me seeing their growth as someone that witnessed them on The Sing Off to where they are now in their career, and when they released this one I couldn’t stop listening to it for a WHILE. This for most part is a 5 harmonies, not beatboxing, and the climax is Avi, Mitch and Scott, and in the background Kirstin and Kevin.

Fun fact. The group had to learn to lip sync backwards to record the snow falling up. They recorded the snow falling and singing backwards and then played it backwards to get the up falling snow.

There are several old interviews where Avi and Kevin talk about writing this then bringing it to the group to be put in its final form. I can't remember exactly what parts each wrote but when you look at the credits Avi is listed first The lyrics remind me a lot of what Avi writes as a solo artist so Im inclined to believe most of the lyrics are his. All of the songs Pentatonix does are credited to the whole group but this is because they all have input into their parts of the final song.

So many amazing originals: Happy Now, Sing, Coffee in Bed, Be My Eyes, See Through, Never Gonna Cry Again, Anchor, Petals, Can’t Sleep Love (Popspring 2016 version), Water, New Year’s Day, Ref, Side…..and the list goes on and on

If you enjoy this you'll love "My Heart With You " it's superb. There's great live versions" too, but the official video was filmed live. Light in the Hallway" is also great.

Every live concert they do a song where they put down mics, ask the audience for quiet, and sing "old school" - this is one of the ones they do that way. There are videos and its extraordinary how they get their voices to carry, even when singing softly. I just rewatched a video that you might really enjoy since it's very different than their "normal" ones. Made w/ Todrick Hall, watch The Wizard of Ahhhs. The production is clever and outstanding, the mash up of songs is creative and you get The Wizard of Oz in 7-8 minutes of creativity and gorgeous singing. It'll make you smile for sure!!

Absolutely beautiful! I think that it would be really cool if you, your wife and daughter all sat together and reacted to Wizard of Ahhs. If ya'll have seen the Wizard of Oz you will appreciate this musical directed/ produced by Toderick Hall, collaborated with PTX. It is very enjoyable. A must see on a theatrical level and the talent PTX has.

My Heart With You is similar, and I think even more beautiful.

Really looking forward to concert vlog and also 'Recording of Evergreeen.' Mitch is a chameleon and does change his appearance but here I think it''s just his age. This was recorded in 2012/2013 so he was only 20 or 21 and in his heavier days.

This is my fave of theirs that is an original. They were inspired to write this after they heard "My Heart with You". Check out that cover of theirs. They just released it last year after having known it for 10 years. In that song they have a lot of beautiful what I call "cascades" of sounds. This song is on the Evergreen album. Merry Christmas.

i love their original music, many don't have videos, such as 'anchor' 'petals', 'on my way home'. they also have some mash ups where they take two or three songs and sing little bits of each over and over until it sounds like a whole new song. 'la la latch' is a good example of that.

This is 5 part harmony as Kevin is doing the tenor part with Mitch. He splits off & does counter melody with Kirsten. There’s no beat boxing/percussion in this.

Mitch was very young when they started and since then he has had cancer. This could explain alot of his appearance change, plus he is a fashion God!

Avi has some great solo music out there The otherside, I’m only getting started, change on the rise to name a few. You will not be disappointed

You might want to listen to a cover of this by Sam Robson. He's out of the UK, and can only be described as 1 man who embodies an acapella group of 30 people and untold number of instruments with his voice at one time. He has an insane range from high tenor to bass. His "Circle of Life" is a must hear. Enjoy.

Great reaction my guy. The one thing I say over and over and over is how TIGHT this group is. They breathe, transition, crescendo, etc. as one single unit. Also, they put in the work. This one of my favorites of their originals. They sang it live when I saw them in concert and it was incredible. The entire stadium was absolutely silent while they stood around a single mike and sang. I recorded it on my phone and still listen to it often. Love love love

Personally I feel that their original songs don't get nearly enough love. All of their originals are amazing. For a different vibe check out Sing. It's super up beat and fun. Also their Pop Spring 2016 performance has 3 awesome originals and the Evolution of Michael Jackson. It's a bit long but totally worth it.

I love this song, it gives me chills everytime. If you want more originals, check out the Popspring 2016 mini-concert they did; it has 3 awesome originals (Cracked, Can't Sleep Love, & Water - all quite different t from eachother) and their evolution of Michael Jackson. Also, if you liked Run To You, then you will likely also love "Light In The Hallway", Scott wrote it as a lullaby for his baby nephew and asked Avi to sing lead on it. In the concerts they used to perform it at the end with just one mic in between them. If you look it up, I definitely recommend a live version (idk if they ever did a music vid for the studio version). "Sing", another original, is almost the opposite: it's up beat and catchy. Anchor doesn't have a music vid that I'm aware of, but it's a stunning original, with a Mitch lead. There are just so many awesome songs they've done, I want to recommend so many to you, but at what point do we just say "all of them, listen to them all" lol. Idk if anyone mentioned this, but the chorus, where the ash is going upwards, that was the video being runnin reverse, they all learned to lip synch that part backwards in order to make it work. Also, at one point they made the sheet music available on their site for free, but idk if it still is (i tried to look but couldn't see it on there). This original was done because they couldn't get the rights to My Heart With You, so made this in it's stead. They did "My Heart With You" last year. The Evergreen experience is so incredible to watch. Nice reaction!

When you have time, watch season 4 of sing off. It will tell you all about them, and how Kevin and Avi really rounded out the songs. It will also show you their ability to mesh songs.

PTX was in season 3 of The Sing Off in 2011-2012. Mitch skipped graduation ceremonies to audition in 2011. The Trio was 18.

I straight up just screamed out loud, SO excited!! Recommend: Anchor, Happy Now, and the Recording of Evergreen!! The last one is long but is EXACTLY up your alley for creative process. Also if no one else mentioned, when the snow goes up, they're lip syncing in reverse so it can be played backwards! They also made sure to release the sheet music, as mentioned in one of their other end-caps at the end of a vid.

John, if you enjoyed this purely acapella (no rhythm) ballad, I highly recommend you check out their version of Silent Night filmed in a cathedral using the natural acoustics of the building. It's pretty incredible.

You should check out their version of Radioactive, it's a collaboration with violinist Lindsey Stirling. Their cover of Lennon's Imagine is also one of my favorites. Really, you can pick anything they do and it will be amazing. They're just that damn good.

For the video they learnt to lip synch backwards, so that when played forward, it looked like the snow was going upward. .. I always think of this song as singing about a soldier leaving for war, eventually when he comes back, old and crippled, running after her, she's married to someone else.

If you haven’t already heard it, I think you’d like their song La La Latch.

The story is that this song was inspired by another song, My Heart With You. Several years after they recorded this song, they finally recorded My Heart With You for their Evergreen album (currently nominated for their 4th Grammy award). The video for My Heart With You on KZread was recorded live for their Christmas Under the Stars concert for BYUtv, and it is absolutely in my top 5 PTX songs of all time - another song with no beatboxing, just 3 and 5 part harmony throughout. Highly recommended!
