Thanks for this reaction. It's an original. Kevin and Avi wrote it and it's so loved by choral groups, that the group made the sheet music available online. Little fun fact: In order to make it look like the "snow" was rising upwards, they had to learn how to lip sync the chorus backwards. I'm sure that wasn't easy for them all. It's truly an amazing piece that shows their abilities to be a very tight, cohesive group who can match their vocals to each other as a whole.

So glad you checked this one out. I think it is one of their best that really shows off their best talents. Songs like this are the ones that show you how really tight and in sync they are with each other, and how well they are matched as a group. They can't hide behind any instruments or other voices if they make mistakes. This is the measuring rod of any group. This is EPIC ! Thay are THE best a cappella group today and rightfully so, they have earned it. So, so good !!! Thanks for your reaction and keep 'em comin' !

This is a perfect example of what their name means. Pentatonix is a derivation of the word pent-a-tonic , as in pentatonic scale. It's 5 part harmony and this is just that! It's perfect! I'm so happy that you appreciated this "pared down" original song. You're absolutely correct. They have the roots and core skills to show off, but they didn't have to here. It comes off beautifully. Thank you for yet another excellent reaction!

The bridge is what makes this piece for me. The split between the high harmony and the mail line is just beautiful. And the "high harmony" split isn't what you might expect at first glance - it's "the K's", Kirstin and Kevin, not Kirstie and Mitch. People often don't realize or just forget how high Kevin can go when he gets a chance to sing, rather than beatboxing. For another beautiful non-beatboxing song, give My Heart With You a listen. It's the song that PTX credits with inspiring Run To You. It's also got a split, but it's about 60-40 with the trio (Mitch, Scott, Kirstie) singing by themselves, and Kevin and Matt joining in for 5-part harmony. There's a slightly shorter version (recorded live) with great camera work from their Christmas Under the Stars TV special on BYUtv, and several live versions during concerts from fan-cams - they use it as their closing number, all putting down their individual mics and gathered around a central mic to sing it "old style". While I'm not all that fond of the visuals, the audio from the 2022 Hollywood Bowl concert that was live-streamed is great, and it really gives you a good idea of just how quiet 15,000+ fans can be when they're listening to an amazing performance.

There's a video out there that I can't remember what it was titled because it was a long while ago, but it's a recording from one of their concerts. It's a really powerful moment when they're singing this song, the crowd is dead silent in rapt attention to this beautiful, peaceful music. And in the background, you can hear a homophobic group protesting the concert and chanting outside the venue, because they were mad that Mitch and Scott are gay. But no amount of their hatred could break that moment of peace the crowd was having with PTX.

Another original of PTX-written by Scott for his little nephew at the time, is another masterpiece called “Light In The Hallway”. It’s essentially a lullaby, and Scott specifically requested Avi to sing the lead because of Avi’s wonderful ability to express emotion. You should really give this a listen; it’s sooo beautiful!

The credit given to the whole group is what I tend to refer to as the "Lennon-McCartney Clause", meaning that, whoever might have actually written the song, credit had to be given to the entire team. That may have been the arrangement with PTX, at least back then. Kevin apparently brought the beginning idea to Avi, who wrote the rest and arranged it with Ben Bram. Avi's major in college was Opera and Classical voice, but his minor was composition and arranging, which he put to use to an extent in PTX. But he couldn't write what was aching to come out creatively, which is precisely what he can do now. Those of us familiar with Avi's solo original work can clearly hear his influence in "Run To You", both musically and lyrically. in a couple of his original solo songs in particular - "All Is Well" kzread.info/dash/bejne/pYKexKN6mqmahMo.html and "Chains" kzread.info/dash/bejne/foiJlZKMlLG1iLQ.html In "Chains", listen for some similarities, such as in the lyric "I've been here before, tethered and torn. I can't take any more..." It harkens back to the line in "Run To You" of "I have broken bones and tattered clothes. I've run out of time". Very Avi.

Yes, this one has Avi written all over it. Makes me think of some of the clips I've seen with him and singers at the A Cappella Academy. Simple, powerful lyrics and massive attention to each perfect note. Not surprised that the original idea came from Kevin, some of the imagery possibly, too, but the finished product is Avi all the way.

The feeling they put into this is just fantastic. This is still probably my favorite PTX original. I'm still hoping you eventually get to Avi's solo stuff. Many of the songs deal with mental health as well. I highly recommend "Quarter Past Four" as Avriel and the Sequoias and "All is Well; 7 Layers Session #126" for two sides of his solo work. Also, I could have sworn I had already subscribed to you, but it wasn't checked, so I remedied that.

Great reaction to an original song by them, arranged by Avi and Kevin. The tightness of many of the chords would be so difficult, if they all didn't have such good pitch. I love the very last chord they hummed. It seems like the song ends on a question.

Part of the beauty in their original works is that they can write to their own strengths. With each of their individual gifts, talents and vocal ranges nothing exists to showcase them at their best independently and as a cohesive unit. This is where skilled arrangements came into play. Vocal talent aside, they are *ALL* also gifted song writers and composers! The more of their original work you hear, the better understanding you will have. (Be My Eyes; SING!; Misbehavin'; Anchor; Coffee in Bed; Love Me When I Don't) This original is only the beginning...so much more awaits! Can't wait for more of your discovery! Hurry! Hurry! Hurry!

Don't listen to anyone talking about the singing backward thin. It's not true.

I love the song, hate the group of three friends. The very fact that Avi is not even allowed to sing this song he and Kevin wrote is sickening to me and that Avi was forbidden to even use his own name for 3 years, tells me the total lack of character and disgusting behavior S, M and K have. Wicked is as wicked does.

Why do you say it was the trio? Idk what really happened with Avi leaving. I've heard both that he left on good terms for his own personal reasons and I've heard he left on bad terms because of some kind of rift within the group. I've also heard the problem was him and not one of the other members. It's all gossip and conjecture. All I know is I was bummed when he left, but really it's the best thing that ever could have happened. Without it, we wouldn't have all of his amazing music.
