"Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer" is a novelty Christmas song. Written by Randy Brooks, the song was originally performed by the husband-and-wife duo of Elmo Shropshire and Patsy Trigg in 1979 Eggnog has been spiked since it was first called Eggnog (Nog is either a term for a strong beer or a small wooden cup used to serve alcohol)... see, what you are used to is non-alcoholic Eggnog, which has become more commonplace so children can consume it AND so people can choose how little or how much alcohol to include, as recipes may vary, and your buddy may make his 151 proof, while you may only want it to be 80 proof.

We would get Egg Nog straight from the dairy store in PA each year so one year after visiting up north, I brought Egg Nog back so that my substance abuse groups could have some at their holiday party we were having. My supervisor took me aside and explained how it could be a trigger. I asked how? Never had a clue that Egg Nog had alcohol in it. And I learned my lesson there.

I guess this is one of those Moments in life that Reminds all of Us that Different Cultures and Regions in this World, aren't the same. I'm glad that he got to hear this song for the first time and enjoyed it for what it is. I've Known this song since I was very young 4-5 yrs old so I know it's over 40 yrs old, I was kind of Shocked at first that he'd never heard it before. Then I thought about all the places I've been and was introduced to New Things I had never known about or heard of until introduced to me. Happy Holidays everyone and Safe Travels ❤️😊.

Egg Nog used to be alcoholic. We still add rum to it in my house during the season. It's excellent that way. Please listen to Weird Al's "The Night Santa Went Crazy." Also, they made this song into a cartoon Christmas special and it's hilarious.

Eggnog as a holiday cheer delivery system is a long-standing tradition. The usual variants are Brandy eggnog, rum eggnog, and whiskey eggnog. (I haven't heard of anyone doing beer eggnog, and I'm fairly sure the flavors would clash.) Personally, I grew up with virgin eggnog, but I'm told most people like it chemically enhanced. (There was a milk flavoring product back when called PDQ. It came in Chocolate, Vanilla, Strawberry, and Eggnog flavors. Long gone now, of course.)

I will never forget the first time I heard this song. I was about 14 and my grandmother (My fathers mother) wasn´t doing so well, so me and my mother was driving out to visit her. It was a sorta tense ride, as my mother was trying as best she could to prepere me for the visit, as this was the first time I was dealing with the possiblity that a family member quite likely wasn´t going to be around for much longer. So overall, the mood in the car was pretty grim. Then my mother turned on the radio, and this song was playing. We started laughing so much that my mother had to pull over until we got it out of our system. Now, whenver we hear this song we remember my Grandmother.

Adding bourbon or (as I prefer) rum to eggnog is quite common. And some alcohol companies (such as Souther Comfort) actually sell their own branded cartons of alcohol free eggnog to go with their beverages.

I've known of this song for ages. However, this is the first time I've payed attention to every verse. Eggnog is way to rich in creamy goodness to me personally. Only twice in over half a century, that's all I have consumed. Never once with alcohol in the mix. I may want to experience that once before I expire. I do watch you channel to support you, and to take in your reactions. Think one was a great gift from you. This the giving season. I would love to give you more than one thumbs up.👍👍👍👍👍 Peace 🕊

There are ones that come pre-mixed with booze, but honestly, you're better off getting your favorite Egg Nogg (thicker the better) & mixing in either Spiced rum (like Capt Morgan) or some brandy. About 1 shot per glass (8oz) for normal off the shelf Egg Noggs. I used to get this stuff in Florida that was thicker than latex paint (& about 1600 calories per 8oz) that you could add a double shot if you wanted.

This was one of my grandpa's favorite christmas songs. Grandma of course hated it. This version was, of course, a cover, but wonderfully done. Egg Nogg is one of those things you either love or hate. Older, traditional recipes use egg which freaks some out. Modern recipes use a different emulsifier. For some it's the health part. Standard Noggs can be a few hundred calories per glass. Thicker Egg Noggs are better for mixing (spiced rum or brandy are best) but also amp up the calories. Used to get this stuff from Farm Stores in Florida that was thicker than latex paint. Was about 1600 calories for a glass, but could handle a double shot of booze. Also, while there are pre-mixed alcoholic Egg Noggs, you are better off getting your own favorites & mixing to taste. Generally, a shot per 8oz is a good starting point.

No eggnog is sold with alcohol, as it is perishable. But about rum is generally added 1 shot to a 3 oz cup at home. Statler Brothers - Flowers On The Wall and Oak Ridge Boys - Elvira have great deep bass singers.

I think goose used to be the traditional Christmas dinner in Europe, and eggnog has been around since medieval times, and usually had alcohol like brandy or rum in it.

I grew up hearing this song. There was even an animated made-for-tv movie loosely based on the song back in 2000. Hard to believe it's been twenty years ago now! My dad had a whole album of novelty songs like this one, so I grew up hearing a lot of novelty songs. I love novelty songs. They're a completely different, utterly funny genre of songs that just make you feel good when hear them. They aren't supposed to make sense. You just have to listen and have a good laugh. Other novelty songs you might be interested in are: The Chipmunk Song (Christmas Don't Be Late) - David Seville and the Chipmunks I Want a Hippopotomus for Christmas - Gayla Peevey All I Want for Christmas is My Two Front Teeth - Spike Jones Beep Beep - The Playmates The Purple People Eater - Sheb Wooley Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polkadot Bikini - Brian Hyland Monster Mash - Bobby Pickett Hello Muddah, Hello Faddah - Allan Sherman Alley Oop - The Hollywood Argyles Does Your Chewing Gum Lose Its Flavour (On The Bedpost Overnight?) - Lonnie Donegan (Actually a cover of a song from the 1920s!) Witch Doctor - David Seville and the Chipmunks My Boomerang Won't Come Back - Charlie Drake Tie Me Kangaroo Down -Rolf Harris The Auctioneer - Chuck Miller May the Bird of Paradise Fly Up Your Nose - Little Jimmy Dickens

Old song, and the boys had fun with it. Are you fooling us? Haven't you heard this song before when growing up? It's a classic funny Christmas song. Eon's old at least. The thought of eggnog make me make a gross sound and leave the room. Oh YUCK.
