Dan Hartman was such an underappreciated artist. Jay, you've forgotten how much you loved Instant Replay, which is VERY uptempo. I Can Dream About You with its moving sidewalks was written by Dan Hartman for Hall & Oates, but they turned it down. NOW, you absolutely must hear his epic Vertigo/Relight My Fire. It is definitely FIRE! RIP Dan Hartman, who was taken from us too soon by AIDS.
This is one of my favorite songs!

Dan was an amazing singer and performer (look up this one on Letterman) but also write songs for other artists. He actually offered this song to Hall and Oates because they were good friends. They turned him down so he made it into a huge hit all by himself! They stayed friends and they ended up recording a version (after he passed) as a tribute. ❤️

One of my favorites. Just love it.
The singers in the TV behind the bar were ‘singing’ I can Dream in the movie “Streets of Fire”. I VERY highly recommend you see it. You will see a young Diane Lane, Rick Moranis, Michael Pare, and a very nasty looking Willem Defoe, all along with great music!
He was from my hometown (Harrisburg, PA) and wrote "Living In America" for James Brown
This song is OUTSTANDING! Always special to hear it! :)
This song was featured in 'Streets of Fire' and Robert Townsend, Mykelti Williamson (Bubba from Forrest Gump) and Grand L. Bush (Agent Johnson from Die Hard) were members of the group featured in the film as the song's performers.
Dan always reminded me of Darryl Hall with that soulful sound

This was from the soundtrack of a movie called "Streets of Fire". You might want to check that out on your movie reaction channel.
Dan Hartman also played in the Edgar Winter Group (Autumn is a nice song)
One of my dad's last favorite songs before he died. I burned cd's for him and they always had to include this song.
I will say. One of my top two songs from the 1980’s.
Dan wrote "Living In America" for James Brown...have to listen to his "Autumn" from his Edgar Winter days.
I have always loved this song. It reminds me of a Hall & Oates song.
@m.b.593

Dan actually wrote it for Hall and Oats but they were too busy finishing up another album I believe so Dan sang it himself. I actually just found that out earlier today lol 🙏🏻
This song was basically written to be the theme song for a television show in the mid 1980s. It was called the Insiders.
This was a very popular song in my childhood. The 1980s was a great time to be a music fan. There was so much variety in the music. A lot of the performers carved out their own paths in their musical expression. I miss the 1980s it was a great time... I loved this song back then.
Dan was riding in a limo in NYC, getting around to doing some Christmas shopping, when he noticed that shoppers were hustling and bustling along, yet not really at all enamored with shopping for Christmas, which gave him the idea of this song, which he was in the middle of writing as it already was. "Moving sidewalks I don't see under my feet Climbing up from down here below Where the streets see me lonely for you, oh" It was his way of expressing that Christmas shopping has turned into a chore, not fun anymore, just going through the motions, as having these strong feelings for another and wanting to just be with them instead. Pretty clever and genius, yet also very relatable with the thoughts and words that he chose for this song, his signature solo song.
This takes me back when this song came out. Love this song!😍
Serious high school memories going on with this one. Haven't heard this in ages. Job done you two. I am most definitely smiling. 🇭🇲
Good ol days.. everytime I hear this, I remember Casey Kasem and American Top40.. 1984,1985 great years in music. If I recall correctly, these were in or almost the same time when this was in the countdown, along with Don Henley's Boys Of Summer, Steve Perry's Oh Sherrie, Night Ranger's Sister Christian, Kool & The Gang's Joanna and Misled, Duran Duran's Wild Boys, Wham!'s Everything She Wants, John Waite's Missing You, Van Stephenson's Modern Day Delilah, John Cafferty & The Beaver Brown Band's On The Dark Side, etc...
Lots of songs remind me of the 80s... this song puts me there.. more than any other. I love it
Dan Hartman had a soulful voice and he could hit the high notes with great ease. He also wrote and produced living in America by James brown.

What a wonderful song, this was a big radio hit. So glad you got a chance to hear this, it's an incredible song.
My teen years in the 80s, always liked this song. 😊
Fun fact. He wrote this song for his friends, Daryl Hall & John Oates but they alr finished their album. So he kept it and here we are.
an all time favorite. originally written for hall and oates but they already finished the album they were working on and had no space for it so dan recorded it himself. emulating h&o’s backing vocal arrangements
Always loved this song. Takes me back to my childhood; we ALWAYS had the radio on, and this was a radio staple
The umpha umpha umpha of the late 1970 to early 80. Really something else. Remember Sylvester. You make feel mighty real. And Do you wanna funk. Jeez I wish I could recall those days 😃😃
Listening to his a vowel lyrics just melts like honey and the guitars funky jabs and bass! Aww i could just listen to that part over the over! His guitars mix is captivating to the 80's sound. It takes me back to good moments ✨️
I absolutely love this track ❤love!! RIP Dan H
I bought this 45 record when it came out and I still love hearing it nearly 40 years later. It is sheer perfection from beginning to end. It has soul, power, tenderness, sweetness all rolled together. His lead vocals are outstanding. And I love the backup vocals. My favorite line is "Moving sidewalks -- I don't see under my feet". That totally captures the feeling of desire. Just hearing this song makes me feel young again.
I absolutely love this song! It was featured in a 1984 movie "Streets of Fire" which is.described as a rock and roll fairy tale. Fun movie if you just go into it just looking for fun, not seriousness or importance. That movie also has some scenes with The Blasters which is a band y'all should really check out. They are hard to categorize, but I'd say they have a lot of rockabilly influences, spiced up with some TexMex and punk. 😁 That's as close as I can get on a description. Songs from them I'd suggest would be: American Music, Marie Marie, Border Radio, or I'm Shakin'.

This song reminds me of going to my grandparents house at the NJ shore, was always on the radio. 📻. He also did a song on the soundtrack to the movie Fletch, song “Fletch get out of town”.
Great song from an underrated artist, who, sadly, left us way too soon, passing from a brain tumor at the age of 43. One of my other favorite Dan Hartman songs is "Get Outta Town" (wayyy more upbeat, Jay!), which was used in the hilarious 80s Chevy Chase movie "Fletch". I think you two would love that film - it's kind of in the vein of Beverly Hills Cop, lots of comedy and some action but with a dramatic story line. Chevy Chase is BRILLIANT in the role. This song also appeared in a movie (soundtrack) called "Streets of Fire," a rock musical also from the 80s.

Dan Hartman was the bassist for the Edgar Winter Group. He played on the phenomenal "Frankenstein" live video you watched. Hall and Oates do a great cover of this one.
He wrote, played bass, and sang lead on the Edgar Winter Group “Free Ride”. A great song but very different. Also the girl in the video is Joyce Heyser who starred in “Just One of the Guys” around the same time this song came out.
Always a wonderful vibe & great, wise observations! Another superb Hartman song was "Instant Replay." All kinds of fun. May he rest in eternal peace.
More upbeat by Dan Hartman? OK "Instant Replay" BANGER BANGER BANGER 🔥 👌
I really don't remember this song from Dan Hartman. I loved him in the Edgar Winter Group though and a lot of his solo work. When I was much younger, I used his record "Instant Replay" for my routine when I tried out for a semi-pro football team cheerleader position and ended up on the squad. Those were a fabulous few years for me. Got noticed and even became a model based on it. For that, I'll forever be grateful to Dan Hartman. It was fun at that age. Of course, after a few years, I moved on from that and the superficiality of it all. I had more in mind for my life.
Dan, who helped produce Edgar Winter on a few of his album, who was a member of the band for many year, and was the bass player on the "Frankenstein" video you reacted to had quite a few hits. His greatest two IMO were his great, classic dance singles "(Vertigo) Relight My Fire" and "Love Sensation" both featuring the great Loletta Holloway.

First time I ever heard him was in the movie Streets of fire way back in the early '80s. That's why you see it on the TV there It's a scene from the film as a back vocal for the band in the film.
