Christopher Cross played that guitar part and Michael McDonald was on backup vocals this song was a big hit and he has some others that were big hits like "Sailing" and "Arthur's Theme" which won the Oscar for song of the year co-written by super song writer Burt Bacharach.

The background singer is Michael McDonald. The former lead singer of The Doobie Brothers. You should check out his song "I keep Forgetting". It's soulful fire!! 🔥

Cross was one of the coolest voices from the 80's. Such a unique sound and that is Michael McDonald doing those rich background voices. You should do some of his songs too. Next do the song SAILING from Cross.

This artist was the first to win all 4 top categories at the 23rd Grammy awards. Album, record, new artist, and song of the year,Sailing. I agree with you on some of the 70s music. But because there was so many styles of music being created, there was a lot of throwaway’s. Still, the best decade of music! Thanks!

I would not describe this tune as "disco". It's great song that makes one want to get up and dance. Having Michael McDonald on this cut certainly doesn't hurt. This got a ton of air time in it's day. I believe that was Christopher Cross on the guitar solo at the end. He is an accomplished guitarist.

The most interesting fact about being watching both of your channels is that I found myself back to the start doing music appreciation again... and in some moments I definitely would like to put my ear close to yours so I could capture what you're feeling in moments like these... This song didn't bring much to me at first listening, but my imagination flies... and sometimes I can even imagine another arrangement or version to the song in the reaction...

Mimicking everything everyone else said. CC is the greatest. Sailing, and Arthur’s theme. Excellent. And of course Michael McDonald with the backup vocals. Someone who has numerous hits, himself and arguably more famous. But CC is incredible, no doubt.

It says something about Christopher Cross as a guitarist that in 1970 he replaced Ritchie Blackmore then in Deep Purple, at one gig due to sudden illness. Another tuber, Rick Beato has done an analysis video on the guitar solo. So if you want to listen it properly ( darned be the producer here for burying it) please search for "the greatest guitar solo you can't hear". With removal of the orchestration and edgier production values this could be a Journey - song. This is what is called AOR, Adult Oriented Rock. It is a term that lumps together a wide variety of bands and artists. Styx, Journey, Peter Frampton, Supertramp for example. However it was a marked difference in style when compared to acts like Carpenters, Player, Seals & Crofts, John Ford Coley & England Dan, Bread who dominated the charts to halfway 1970's.

I only really LOVE one Christopher Cross song, which in my opinion, is an 1979 'easy listening' masterpiece and extremely evocative of the feelings of lost love and yearning heartache to the point of eyes sweating... "Never Be The Same" I'd love to see your reaction. kzread.info/dash/bejne/qZqex8Vtd5WcmdY.html

If you like this, then I have two words for you -- Yacht. Rock. (aka the soundtrack for when you want to just chill out on the back of a boat off the coast - technically a form of ''soft rock", but heavily inspired by smooth jazz, soul, R&B, and some disco) Look up the genre, and then just start exploring some of the artists (re: Steely Dan, Michael MacDonald, Toto, Doobie Brothers, Loggins, etc.). You will definitely not be disappointed.

Why do people confuse bongo's with conga's? Bongo's are two drums held between your knees, they are connected together, and are about 5 and 7 inches in length and 8 and 10 inches in diameter. Conga's are 11 to 14 inches in diameter and are about 30 inches tall. They stand on the floor. What you are hearing here are conga's. Try Christopher doing "Sailing" next.
