Mr. Cross is one of those artists with several gems hidden on a full album. Minstrel Gigalo, Never Be The Same, Back of my Mind, Swept Away, Open Up My Window, I'm Too Old For That, Prayin', Poor Man's Ecstasy, Help Me Cry, and several others. He is a tune-smith.

"Sailing" is his staple. His guitar melody is so simple but so beautiful and unique. I think "Sailing" is one of the best songs I've ever heard. It's cheesy. It's the epitome of "yatch rock." It's so beautiful. Also, check out "Think of Laura" and everyone else here will guide you to his many hits. The man is a huge dude with a soft voice.

Saw Cross 2 years back on a Beatles tribute tour with Todd Rundgren, Denny Laine from the Moody Blues and Wings, and Joey Molland from Badfinger. Great show, and Cross was able to show his guitar prowess. The tour was similar to Ringo’s All-Starr Band, where they do a few songs from each artist, then do a set of Beatles tunes together.

Hi Nick, Lex and Marley - Congrats on choosing Christopher Cross - Ride Like the Wind (thanks Rick Beato). This has been a fun reaction, however, the version you were listening to was a digital copy. If you ever get the chance, please try and listen to a vinyl version. There is such a difference. The vinyl version has a warmth that is missing in this digital version. The vinyl version has a sonic quality. Enough said about it. I am very happy you enjoyed the song. "Sailing" was another big hit from this album. (But look for a vinyl version). As always, Love you guys, Ken (P.S. - I just grabbed a listen to AudioPhils vinyl Ride Like the Wind. The dynamics of it were incredible. Please consider the vinyl for your private review of this great song - Ken)

I have the PERFECT Christopher Cross song for your soft music members AND your prog members (like me 🙂). He sang lead vocals on an Alan Parsons song from the album "On Air". It's a loosely themed album that follows the advancement of human flight. The songs have flight-related themes. The song Christopher sings is called "So Far Away" and it's a gorgeous lush power ballad that I'm 100% certain Lex will just love (and you might too because it's an Alan Parsons product) I also think this Alan Parsons album is very underrated in his catalog, It's one of my favorites from him. But please react to this one. Most people are going to give you the hits to listen to, but I bet most Christopher Cross fans may not have heard this and many will get goosebumps from it (like I do)... they will be so upset that they are only hearing this absolute gem for the first time. As always great reaction and keep on loving each other.

And you must also know that Christopher Cross absolutely adores Joni Mitchell like so many other artists of his generation. He even wrote a song called _Roberta_ in her honour (Joni's birth name is Roberta Joan Anderson). Now that you've heard this gem from Mr. Cross, you must listen to more of his repertoire, like _Sailing_ and _Arthur's Theme_ among others.

My husband had his captain license for ocean vessels, and being 10 years older than me, he had an extensive collection of 70's yacht rock. I am always taken back to the Miami to Bahamas run on a sailboat with 2 other couples with sea spray turning my hair into a force of nature, while Ride Like The Wind keeps time to the slap of waves on the stern.

As David Rose said on Schitt's Creek (although on a totally different subject) I like the wine, not the label. Good music is good music whatever the genre. Don't forget NicknLex, just like you there are lots of us prog fans who adore Steely Dan! I was in SA when this was released and it was a big hit there as well. Lovely to hear it again.

6:14 Lex, this was just too cute. I love seeing you guys laugh,😅 and I paused it, looking for Thelma and Louise -Mike MacDonald songs, and came across a random video called Chistopher Cross is a savage on Ride Like the Wind guitar solo! So I was just waiting to see your faces when you found out it wasn’t a hired gun.

Christopher Cross was high on LSD when he wrote the lyrics to "Ride Like The Wind" while riding in his car from Houston to Austin Texas.

Check out his song "Sailing". It came out the same year, 1979.

If you only listen to one more CC song, it has to be Sailing from the same album. In any compilation or greatest hits it is always top of the list. Give it a listen. You will regret it if you don’t!!

PS: since you love movies you need to watch the comedy movie "Arthur" with Dudley Moore if you haven't already. Christopher Cross did the theme song to this hit movie. The movie put him on the music map and I'd be very surprised if you haven't heard it somewhere already and just didn't know it was Christopher Cross. PS: it's a very funny movie as well.

Sailing would be a good Christopher Cross follow up for you. Also Kenny Loggins has a lot of excellent stuff if you haven't dipped your toes into his catalogue yet. The studio version of I'm Alright (from the movie Caddy Shack) would be a fun one to start with. Thanks for sharing this one. 🙂

Another song from the album that features Michael McDonald is “I really don’t know”. Great song. In His interview with Rick Beato, Christopher says that this is the song that he thought should be released first from the album. Obviously, his idea was shot down.

What a fabulous fun reaction, I am so happy you self initiated this. There’s quite a few rabbit holes. You can run down from this. As soon as you can watch the Rick Beato interviews with Christopher Cross, and Michael Omartian. The greatest guitar solo you never hear! I still love this song. I love to sing along to it, and would never change the channel. When the song first came out, I got to see Christopher Cross in a really small bar setting and for whatever reason it was very poorly attended. We talked to him between all of the sets, and at the end of the gig for quite a long time. He was the most genuine down-to-earth person you could ever imagine and he tolerated all of our idiotic questions and inquiries and had no secrets about anything. I think that video from Saturday Night Live and Michael McDonald‘s popularity and some of Christopher Cross other more pop songs is the foundation for the term yacht rock. I don’t have a problem with the term. I just don’t like it applied to Steely Dan. Other Christopher Cross songs that you could hear are Sailing, probably his most popular. He also does a nice theme song for the movie Arthur With Liza Minnelli and Dudley Moore. Keep doing what you’re doing and being you everybody will adjust listen to the music you wanna hear that’s why I like your channel.❤️

I just watched the Michael Omartian interview and the insight he provides into the making of "Ride Like the Wind" is fascinating. I never realized the beat is a disco beat but it absolutely is and Omartian is right that the song wouldn't have worked any other way. What a brilliant job he did producing that album.

Check out Christopher Cross's hit "Saiing". I don't know if it has Michael McDonald on backup vocals, but it is a more popular song. You will love it!
