Gave my girlfriend the lyrics to this in 1975. I was fifteen, she was seventeen. We're still together. Married going on 47 years. So, yeah, this has some meaning for me. As soooooooo many Chicago songs do. Thanks y'all for doing this.

My favorite CTA song. Thanks for an appropriate song for the new year. May 2024 be the best year ever for everyone. We deserve it ❤🎉🥂🍾
Chicago was the first big concert I went to in 1977, I was lucky enough to see them before their guitarist, Terry Kath, passed away, they were incredible!

I was fortunate to see Terry with the band 8 times. Words can't describe his playing chops. The band wasn't too shabby either.-lol.

There are certain events that happen in the course of life where you know where you were when you heard certain news. JFK, 9/11 etc. I was just a 23-year-old kid driving to work and I heard the news about Terry on my car radio. I was literally in shock for most of the day. Very sad indeed. The band was never the same.@@hume1963
Asia & BJ, you'll love their “Does Anybody Know What Time It Is” & "Just You 'n' Me"!!!!
Chicago was so good in the 60’s & early 70’s. Love this song!👍👏👏👏🎵🎶🎵♥️♥️
This song was written by the great Robert Lamm, who also sang the lead vocals here. Chicago (aka Chicago Transit Authority) consisted of : Robert Lamm : Vocals, Keyboards Terry Kath (R.I.P.) : Guitar, vocals Peter Cetera : Bass, vocals Danny Seraphine : Drums Walter Parazaider : Saxophones Lee Loughnane : Trumpet James Pankow : Trombone THIS is what I consider the *real* Chicago/ CTA. The loss of Terry Kath was the first major blow, a a devastating one. For the next few years, they did still manage to put out some pretty good stuff still but it just wasn’t the same. But when Corporate Music pushed for schlocky gooey love songs with ONLY Peter Cetera on lead vocals in the 80s, and keeping those amazing horn players nearly muted… they lost me and almost all their devoted fanbase. Cetera had a great tenor voice, but the songs themselves had *none* of what made Chicago stand out in the first damn place. Sad to say, but once Cetera spun off into his solo career and the attention of Corporate Music strayed elsewhere… it took a few years to recoup and reboot, bring in a few different musicians, etc. BUT Chicago finally started recording again. To far less attention and acclaim, but I believe to the betterment of the remaining original members who’s been unwisely and unjustly pushed to the shadows.

And to add to your great comments aboiut this particular song 'Beginnings', the end fade is still about a couple minutes longer, and it features drummer Seraphine and the horn section playing percussion...talented and great!
I love the joy on both of your faces! Believe it or not- I saw Chicago in the spring of 1969 - before this was released as a single. It was at the GYM at the University of Hartford in Connecticut. They were incredible. I know people have different tastes about their phases and changes- but - they were new and phenomenal. Thanks for your joy!
Throughout the song the singer is cherishing the beginning of a wonderful, loving relationship with a woman. He's blown away regarding their chemistry and enjoying the beginning of their relationship. "When I kiss you, I feel a thousand different feelings, a cover of chills, all over my body..."
The first song from the first album, how prophetic. Amazing talent from writing to performance to production, and everything in between. And it continued for a full decade after this. Fricking amazing and awesome.

Chicago sound stands the test of time. This is music at its best. Every Chicago song has a meaning, people relates to those songs. Nice reaction guys ❤🎉🎉
This is an abridged version of the song released on their 1969 debut double-LP as the Chicago Transit Authority. The percussion outro with cowbell, blocks, and vocal trills lasts for a few minutes. You can't go wrong with the Terry Kath era of Chicago, 1967-1977. Sadly, founding guitarist Terry Kath died 46 years ago on January 23, 1978, 8 days short of what would have been his 32nd birthday. "Poem 58" on that debut album is nine minutes of PURE FUNK led by Kath on guitar, Danny Seraphine on drums, and Peter Cetera on bass. Cue that one up and prepare to be blown away by that raw talent!
This is my favorite Chicago song of all time! Thank you so much for checking it out.

My favourite Chicago song. My eyes are glistening a bit, reminds me of a long ago love. It all blew up in the end, but felt every word of this song with him...
My favorite Chicago song! Memories of high school.
Chicago is one of the greatest bands ever. "Beginnings" was the first song of theirs that I ever heard way back in the day and I have loved them ever since. You should do many more Chicago reactions. BTW, they will be touring this summer together with Earth, Wind and Fire(another great band). I have seen both bands in concert many times and they never disappoint.
70's kid here. This is one of my favs from Chicago. This and Wishing You Were Here with Beach Boys on backing vocals. Freaking soo good.
Drummer Danny Seraphine is amazing. Back then, Danny and Bobby Colomby from BS&T were my favorite drummers. Very different styles, but both great. James Pankow on trombone is also an incredible musician. Love the addition of Latin percussion at the end, especially the agogo bells.
One of my favorites from Chicago! A great band!! Thanks for your reaction and Happy New Year! It's only the beginning!
Chicago Transit Authority (before they were forced to shorten it). The only time you could hear this on the radio was late at night on the FM station (AM was still king, playing Mitch Ryder). I purchased the album in Eureka, IL, and my friends didn't like it. I'm really glad I bought it.
I always like the horns in Chicago, but this one in particular. In high school, my twin brother played sax, two friends played trumpet and I played trombone. I can imagine us playing along with this song every time I hear it. An the fade out percussion shared by everyone in the band...until you killed it before it ended.
Happy New Year guys, good song choice! Bands with horn sections like Chicago and Earth Wind & Fire were so powerful. They don't write 'em like that anymore.
I absolutely love this song. Unfortunately, this version cut it off before the incredible percussion outro.

The percussion lS really good, but 100% does not fit with the rest of the song (of course, just my opinion). The feel of this song, the incredibly bright optimism and feel-good vibe perfectly done, makes it one of the best ever. But that vibe is diminished by then putting the focus exclusively on a long percussion jag. Without it the song is a 10, with it an 8. They did the same thing with, "Hard to Say I'm Sorry", completely changing the feel of the song with that up-tempo swing at the end, it doesn't work (for me anyhow).

@@johnboehmer6683 "Get Away" is a sepearate song but they segued them together. I agree that it busts up the even temo of HTSIS.
Great reaction, and again another inspired Chicago classic. Love the rhythm jam at the end but this version cut it way short. The percussion rhythm rocks on for another 3 minutes or so normally in this song. That must have been the radio version. Thanks, love that song !!

One of the constants on all their songs is Danny Seraphine on drums. Horns were nice on this one.
Listening to this tonight makes me so proud at being from Chicago and still doing music at 71! They kicked ass in this song and this song is just a breath of fresh air! Sadly my wife passed in September of 2023 and this week I recorded her song that I just wrote to keep our 23 years together so special. I will have a video of it soon and I already have a video for her too! I've subscribed to your channel tonight too as I love the way you describe the music after listening to it!

Such a great way to "begin" the new year. The music made by the original Chicago lineup is some of the best ever created. Thanks for reacting to this Asia and BJ.
Please check out “I’m a Man” Tanglewood, 1970. Terry Kath is phenomenal and Danny Seraphin on drums. The best !
This is my favorite Danny Seraphine drum song,. He’s just a scatting and a rolling and s shuffling all over this, up and down and just propelling this song like a rocket falling down a staircase lol.

First album. When 'Chicago' was CHICAGO! A true rock swing band. Figured you guys would dig this one. Happy New Year.
Chicago... The "Rock Band who played jazz"! Blood Sweat and Tears... The "Jazz Band that played rock"! I loved growing up in the 70's! We had all the cool bands!!
Chicago has a treasure trove of classics. Happy to see y'all reacting to this talented group. ❤❤
Believe it or not one of my favorite Chicago songs and Wishing you was here.
Chicago could bring it. I saw them a few years ago and they were still great, just needed a little help. What a catalog.
YA’LL! I love Chicago! Been around a few decades myself 😉and I’ve loved them forever! I’ve seen them several times and what a cool experience! Last time was 2 years ago and they’re STILL amazing!
Out at a beach bar during the summer a band played this with horns and all… reminded me how much I love this song
This song brings back memories of my younger days. Chicago was and is the best horn band ever!
This song is one of the most slept on bangers in rock history. Ya heard.
You're getting downright poetic Asia!!! Love you guys!!

Missed the end of the song! They gave you the short version. Love you guys!

This song came out in 1969 & boy the song stood out & was not like other song patterns of that time!!
Such a great song guys, I saw myself in the chat during this one haha shoot. I said, "I like Chicago" and "Chikaka."
A great song, brings back so many memories...you both look amazing...Happy New Years !!!
love visiting your channel you're a great couple happy new year, its only the beginning
Its funny that 80s/90s Chicago got the ballad label while this was from their first album... They just make great music❤
I brought this LP to a sixth grade dance in 1972. And played this song! I would pay big bucks nowadays to see a video of us “dancing” to the outro with the congas and all the rhythmic stuff going on. It goes on a lot longer on the LP version! The same thing happened with the album version of Spinning Wheel by Blood, Sweat and Tears with the weird circus, calliope type stuff going on at the end of that one! 🤣
Yeah…. Back to the 70’s ❤️ Asia….. you be looking fine 🥰 BJ looking like a sharp dressed man 💪🏾 great reaction & Happy New Year 2024 🎉🎊🔥
My all time favorite Chicago song! No one ever reacts to this, thank you💗
Welcome back!! Jeez where you guys been! 😮 more music please! And it’s time for more Queen!!

One of my favorite bands!!!❤😊
Paradoxically, "Beginnings" was the most perfect ending to an amazing decade.
Only the beginning of a great, productive year!
Great description BJ! Love y’all!
My favorite band all time! If you want to check out a song that I believe doesn't get enough attention is "Dialogue Parts 1 & 2". A conversation between 2 young adults about what's going on in the world and their thoughts on it.
"Beginnings" is a song written by Robert Lamm for the rock band Chicago Transit Authority and recorded for its debut album Chicago Transit Authority. The band was forced to change their name to Chicago rather than Chicago Transit Authority by the Chicago Transit Authority.
Just so freaking good!
Beginnings and 25 or 6 to 4 are my two favorite Chicago songs. Just amazing music.
One of the first songs that I heard by CTA, ( Chicago Transit Authority) there original name on their first album! It is still my favorite song by the band!it was the beginning of a great career for the band! You guys missed out on the longer album version which played the maracas for about a minute or so!

My favorite Chicago song
This song was written by keyboardist Bobby Lamm. It was inspired by The Beatles song Hey Jude.. Both songs being over 7 minutes and having a long memorable outro.. Used to be my favorite Chicago song but it reminds me of my ex sociopath girlfriend Alissa. So I try to avoid it at all costs. BJ hit the nail right on the head in its positive inspiring lyrics.I had all the aspirations and dreams BJ spoke of until she ripped my heart out along with my soul! Still a great song! I couldn't resist your guys channel so I suffered through it!
Best song ever!!! Thank you!
Watch their whole Tanglewood concert in 1971. You won't be disappointed.
I love Robert Lama’s voice on that one!
I was so excited when I saw you were doing this ❤.

Such a great review of an inspiring song.
This is my favorite of theirs
I am from Chicago, and I was privileged to see them live many times from 1970 to 1978 - death of Terry Kath. Incredible live performances. Listen to Suite for a girl from Buchanan.

* Ballet For a Girl From Buchanan. (I simply corrected the title to make their search easier)
Asia & BJ I know this classic is from one of many greatest hits albums from Chicago. This song is from their 1st album when they were known as Chicago Transit Authority (CTA). But city of Chicago was going to file a lawsuit against the band of using city's transit system name. So, band shorten their name to Chicago avoid the lawsuit. But whoever has original 1969's CTA album in mint condition (sealed) has a gold mine.
