Karen Carpenter sang her own backups and added those tracks to the music. And major music magazine called her the best drummer in America. To repeat another fans remarks: " During their career, the duo scored 1 number one album and another 4 Top 10 albums on Billboard 200, 3 number one singles, 12 top 10 singles and 20 top 40 hits on Billboard Hot 100. Karen's singing and her brother Richard's arrangements sold out concerts in the UK and Japan as well.

Karen Carpenter was simply one of the greatest voices ever in pop music. One of her contemporaries, Olivia Newton John, said she NEVER heard Karen Carpenter hit a wrong note. Another, Dusty Springfield, said that what made her different was her lower register. "All of us can hit the high notes," she said, "but the money is in the basement."

  • @chadley25

Dusty Springfield is pretty awesome in her own right. Never knew she said that! Also like Laura Nyro from that time. But I think the singer among the most analogous to Karen Carpenter is probably Anne Murray. But Karen, of course, is in a class by herself.

Karen is considered one of the best female vocalists ever. She was known as "one take Karen," as she recorded the songs in just 1 recording take, 99% of the time. She is also known as being able to sign in the lowest tones, which most female singers cannot get down to. She was incredible. We lost her too soon. By the way, this is a live performance. The small orchestra is behind the curtain.

I never cease to be amazed and disappointed by the number and stature of the so called musical elites of today who are totally ignorant of the outstanding and exceptionally talented singers of the 70's and 80's. A time when the quantity and quality of music created in nearly all forms far surpasses the trivial amount and quality of that created today.

Karen Carpente Superstar in one take while reading the lyrics off of a napkin. She was known as one take Katen. All the backing vocals were done by multitracking Richard, her brother and arranger, and Karen. Unfortunately, we lost Karen in 1983 to cardiac arrest caused by complications of anorexia nervosa. She was 32. Please react to the song This Masquerade by the Carpenters.

I've always been fond of the Carpenters first hit release, their 1970 arrangement of Burt Bacharach's song: "(They Long to Be) Close to You" The last song Karen recorded before her death in 1983 also tugs at the heart: "Now" You can find both on KZread. Neither may be the best examples of their art, they are just my two favorites

I saw a documentary about this group back when I was a young boy in the late 1970s. She and her brother sang the backing vocals in the studio on the original recordings of all their songs. They would layer their voices over and over again to make the vocals sound like a choir of many voices. They were an awesome group with hit after mellow hit. They were huge part of the free and easy sound of that era in music.
