    She was so perfect that she was known for one take Karen. She was also a drummer. She was the band drummer before she took lead singer. She wanted to be known as a drummer who could sing rather than a singer who could drum. ❤❤

    The very first album I purchased (53 years ago) was "Close To You" by the Carpenters. I was also privileged to see the Carpenters in concert in 1977. These types of reaction videos are difficult for me as I simply cannot imagine anyone considering themselves qualified to provide an analysis of such musical genius.

    Emma, This lady was a wonderful singer AND she played the drums. This song is a classic by Mr. Burt Bacharach. Burt and Hal wrote a boat load of great songs.... I still have some of their albums...........

    Karen's brother Richard, playing piano here, was a very talented composer and arranger. Karen was only fully comfortable with her brother Richard's arrangements. Her famous song Rainy Days and Mondays is fabulous.

    Another analyst had compared her live vocals to her studio vocals, there was very little difference between the two in pitch and key. She was/incomparable.

    For contrast, you could try Sing or Top of the World to get a different part of Karen's voice (a bit higher part) and a bit faster tempo.

    "Now" is her last recording, and it feels haunting listening to it, knowing it is her final song. Until you are ready to finish analyzing The Carpenters, I might save it for last. 🤷‍♂️ "Top Of The World" has a Country twang. "Yesterday Once More" is similar sounding like "Close To You,"

    As a semi-professional singer myself, I would suggest Masquerade and Superstar as other great performances that showcase Karen's full abilities, but her amazing talent comes through in all of her songs.
