I have the vinyl when she came on the scene. She's as fiercely talented as a songwriter as she is a singer. She was a soloist with gospel artist Richard Smallwood, debuted with her then partner as Rene and Angela, and later was a longtime partner of Ronald Isley.

Angela and I were music majors together at Howard University back in the mid-70s. She was a beast then too. She graduated a year before I did and sang background for Stevie Wonder for a few years before branching out on her own. We always knew that she would be mega-successful. And she was until she met, fell in love, and married Ronald Isley. Things went downhill and it was a dark night for her for several years. But thankfully she made it out of that dark pit and is performing again occasionally.

@@lutherbrice1316 Yeah. Howard was/is a mecca for cranking out black talent. A couple of the Blackbyrds were my classmates also. They were about three years ahead of me. But in my senior year, they took a break from the road and Kevin, their keyboard player, and Keith Killgo, their drummer/vocalist, returned to Howard to complete their degrees. So they were in my circle for a hot minute as well.

Angela from what I remember, was one of the original members of the Richard Smallwood Singers. Richard himself, I believe attended Howard as well. But clearly, Angela's voice was too big and far too gifted for her to just sang in a group. She was meant for bigger and better, and I'm so glad the world knows who she is, all these years later.

  • @dbisamazing84

I'm not sure if you remember or knew of her, but there was a young lady out of Chicago, who also attended and graduated from Howard back then, as a music major. She was a Coloratura Soprano, by the name of Felicia Coleman. She was very big in the Chicago Gospel Music scene, most notably as a member of Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church, and recorded on many of their albums from the early 70s through the early to mid-90s. And to my understanding, when the musical Sing Mahalia Sing happened, Richard Smallwood brought her aboard to join the cast. Howard has a niche for discovering some of the greatest black musical talent in the world! I'm so glad you had a wonderful experience there!

I was vibing out to this joint, and i said, "lets see if anyone has recently discovered this MASTERPIECE." Im glad you were one of the few. Lets talk about the amazing being that is Miss Angel Winbush, for a sec. Not only an AMAZING vocalist, she's also a writer and producer. As a duo, with song writer/producer, Rene Moore, and on her own, she has written HITS for legendary artists like The Isleys, Lalah Hathaway, Janet Jackson, Stephanie Mills, so on and so on. She's truly one of them ones. Its funny u mention that time machine, I've felt like that my entire life. Im an 80s baby, but always wanted to be a 60s baby. Theres definitely new 🔥 out there, but you gotta search hard. The majority of the greatest music made, was between 76-89, imo. We do have artist like India Arie, Jill Scott, Faith Evans, Marsha Ambrosius & Jazzmime Sullivan, just to name a few that can give you that authentic soul feel WITH spectacular vocals With that being said, how much are paid requests? I made one a good while back, when i first found you, but nothing ever came of it. Gotta get my favorite male singer, and 1 of the greatest soul artist, on this channel. Will Downing - Lover's Paradise 🫡

What you have to do is put a translucent overlay over the video and make the video translucent. I've seen it done with many other reactors with little to no problem. For Prince, you may have to put up a still picture. Now then, about Ms Angela Winbush. During this time, she exhibits a distinct influence of the stylings of the Isley Brothers. She has a banging duet on this album with Ronald Isley called Hello Beloved. She eventually marries Ronald Isley! Oh, I almost forgot, Angela Winbush comes from the duo Réné and Angela. Some of their hits were I'll Be Good, My First Love, You Dont Have To Cry and Your Smile. Peace...

The artist today do not take the time to perfect their craft. The older vocalist put in the hard work. They practiced, practiced, and practiced. They had passion and yes they are more soulful. It wasn't about fame. It was about love of music and appreciating the gift. I am a member of Gen X and I saw a shift in music from my generation. Don't get me wrong, my generation has some fabulous artist, but then there are those that began sexualizing the music and taking off their clothes. It became about the fame and not about the heart and soul of the art. My mom is a Baby Boomer and her generation took music to all kinds of hypes. Every genre was banging. My dad was from the Greatest Generaton (GI), which produced the Nicholas Brothers. Need I say more? People took pride in their appearance in both generations and the neuclear family was important. That's a topic for another day.

Great song and reaction. Her song "Smile" might be her greatest song, check it out sometime.
