First Session with FR1 80 Deluxe Intuition

New skates! FR1 80 Deluxe Intuition. Got a break in the weather to test them out.
This is my first non-hockey skate. Feels like my first skate ever considering I've only been back on skates for 3 months after 22 years off. Quite a bit more support than the hockey skates. I'm still breaking them in and getting used to them, but so far so good. I don't think the adjustment period will be very long.

Thanks so much! I hope you like them, they’ve served me well for a year and counting. No I never heat molded the liners, I just let the break in process happen naturally. I’d say they weren’t completely broken in for about 10-12 hours of skating. I had some discomfort in a few places throughout the process, but they all went away once they were broken in.

@@vincearredondo I think it depends on both what kind of skating you want do, and your preference. The 100s hold speed better, but are harder to get up to speed and the 90s are of course the inverse of that. I don't think one is "better" than the other. It also may vary based on your foot size. For example, my feet are 265mm and the Endless 90/100 have wheel bases of 276mm/303mm respectively. So both are longer than my foot. If you have 28mm foot or something, you may like the added front-to-back stability of the 100s. As for my preferred style and most my videos (urban/city flow skating) they both work for me. It also may depend on experience - have you skated before or are you just changing setups?

You can play hockey in these skates, but hockey skates would obviously be better. The main difference in a hockey boot is a forward-lean by way of a HiLo wheel setup as well as a lower cuff with less support for increased ankle mobility.

I’d say based on the size chart, that seems about right if you measured your feet accurately, but everyone is different. Sizing in my experience is part following the size chart, part trial and error and part personal preference and skating style

  • @rerollinginline

@@digitalrider2620 Honestly, I don't know what my "normal shoe size" is because it varies between brands and types of shoes. I can tell you that although these skates are size 8.5-9 US, I have no shoes that small. Most of my shoes are somewhere between 9.5 and 10.5 US. However, I want my skates tight and shoes I like a little looser. Unless they're running shoes that I actually run in - I want those a little tighter as well. I did not base my skate size on the size of any of my shoes. The way I determined my skate size was by accurately tracing my foot on a sheet of paper to get the length and width and consulting the official size chart for the skates. Both of my feet are 265mm long. The other thing I'll say is that these skates felt tight at first and had some pressure points, but after about 10-12 hours of skating felt good. And the last thing I'll say is that everyone is different. All feet are different and everyone desires a different kind of fit, so unfortunately it's still some degree of trial-and-error and personal preference.

Considering making the FR1 80 Deluxe my first set of skates since like...20 years ago. Seems like you were in the same boat. Any regrets? How's their width? I have pretty wide feet and heard the Powerslides and Rollerblade Twisters are pretty narrow. Hoping FR has a bit more room for a wider foot, haha.

  • @rerollinginline

No regrets so far. My biggest gripe was the 45 degree ratchet straps. They were horribly noisy because of a loose rivet. I've since replaced them with velcro straps, which I actually like better. I also only skated the stock frame you see in this video for a week. The stock frames are a flat setup, which I do not like. So I changed the frames to Endless 90 which have a subtle rocker and I love them. My last few videos feature the Endless 90 frames. Also stock frames took 80mm max wheel size and the Endless are 90mm. I definitely like the longer frame and larger wheels better. The FRs are supposed to be better for wider feet, so you should be good there.

  • @rerollinginline

Correct: the frame that comes on this skate is flat and not “pre-rockered”. You can definitely simulate a rocker with wheel size. You’d want to do 76-80-80-76 though. I wouldn’t go more than that or the rocker might be unmanageable. 4mm size difference equals 2mm rocker (always half the difference)
