    What I always think about this performance is how the audience, the band and Madonna became one. Madonna has a very strong magnetism and stage presence and here we can see that. It's like everyone there is in a spaceship traveling through the galaxies… Whenever I want to recharge my energies I watch this performance!!! Thanks for the react.

    cool. I was going to say the same thing. I remember reading the reviews of the album Ray of Light and they universally noted the new beauty and better tone to her voice PLUS, per usual, she was integrating the hippest newest dance music trend EDM hence William Orbit as producer. I SO SO SOOOO with they would team up again.

    A part of me always wishes she would've continued with the vocal training in the years after Evita. I don't think we would've had performances such as she's been giving in recent times, and probably would've had more of these gems.

    There’s a lot of debate on Madonna’s best live vocals on a television performance and this one always takes the cake for me, even over her Oscar performance of “Sooner Or Later”. She’s performed Ray Of Light a few times in concert since but she always sings it in a lower key. This was the top of her vocal career

  • @RyanStorey1231

    @RyanStorey1231

    I think this was one of the only times Madonna performed this song in its original key. This leads me to believe that Madonna was really pushing her vocals and singing way out of her range. You can sort of hear it strain in the original track, but it still sounded impressive. But it's probably difficult for her to replicate live. It's probably more dangerous for her voice, too.

    Madonna had an album called Something to Remember which she released as a collection of previously released ballads and one new song which I didn’t see you cover. The name of the song is “You’ll See”. An underrated song and video in my opinion. There was also the You Can Dance album which had remixes of all of previously released works plus one new number called Spotlight. That is more of a nostalgic song for me. But it would have been nice to see you cover those songs too. You should check out her Drown World Tour in which she does cover the the majority of the Ray of Light album.

    First off, I need to say that I f*cking love ur channel and commentary is always so on point! One thing I would like to add to ur review is how confident she acted and sounded as the performance progressed. You could tell she was so nervous at the beginning. She just had a child took major vocal lessons for Evita and that this was definitely her first time to showcase that training in a small and intimate and live performance. She was and still is always ridiculed for her vocal abilities and she was probably scared AF to perform it live. Half way through this performance you can see she's more relaxed and confident, which then opens up her vocals. When she was hitting those long, strong and high notes, it almost seemed effortless, if not, f*cking just fun for her. I've always thought this performance was amazing! Looking forward to seeing more of ur episodes.

    She negotiated three different resonance areas in this song: her chest / her mask / her head. Head voice to the mix in her mask to her mix-belt. It’s not an easy song to sing at all. There may have been a bit of pitch correction but it’s only noticeable when her voice sounds robotic - which is in maybe 3 places for very short moments. But otherwise it’s real, and the echo/reverb is a really nice enhancement

    Not often a performance on a talk show becomes so uplifting and powerful...she killed it vocally 🔥 I must say though after evita I feel her voice extended in range but somehow lost some of its character and soulfulness....Still all her live performances fascinate me.

    when someone says 'madonna can't sing', what theyre really saying is they just dont like her and undrmining her vocals and her talent is the best they can come up with. they know what theyre saying is rubbish cos when pressed to give reasons why they say that they can't. she has a wonderful ability to express so much emotion, she's incredibly versatile having sung more genres than anyone else. she's an especially strong balladier. much stronger technical singers arent nearly as captivating or entertaining

    Nice reaction. My only note is from when you mention the producer wanting to keep her voice in that key... Madonna is the producer. She works with co-producers, but she calls the shots always.

    Oprah knew the words. 😂. I love it. Madonna had gotten vocal lessons for the first time ever a few years prior for Evita She found a lower register she never really used to much. Madonna's vocal prowess in just a matter of months still is and was astounding. It's very apparent in Ray of Light her 1st studio album after Evita.

    I love how amazing this was for how simple and non-gimmicky it was. No crazy stages, no insane routines. Just pure energy!

    Seeing all the old ladies losing their sht is so funny. 😭 Definitely the best performance of this song. Also that shot of Oprah losing was used a lot as gif at my MSN times. 🤣
