Ray of Light is my favorite Madonna album, she managed to unite electronic music with spirituality, I learned many lessons from the lyrics of the songs on this album. You should hear it all one day when you're calm, it's a great album to listen to while lying in bed while resting! Hugs from Brazil.

This was hardly a groundbreaking album. Lots of artist were using EM by this time. This was however, a mile stone from Madonna as it was her first album after Evita, where she actually learned how to have a professional singing voice. If you listen to the albums before Evita and post, you’ll know exactly what I mean.

The album Ray of Light is her masterpiece. She got a guy called William Orbit in to produce it. He was regarded as the man in London doing interesting things with sound at the time. He took some persuading I think but how it paid off. This played in every club everywhere at the time. It’s a coherent album from start to finish. 22 years old and still sounds relevant- that’s how ahead of its time it was.

"To rule the world" .. well she pretty much has I follow followed her art of music. I was cultured everything Madonna. She s had earned her status her career .. she's change world and. She has been around every decade since the 80s. ,most of my life. she is a treasure. tired of the ageism with this country. if her newer songs were played on the radio they would go to number 1. But now you have to be under 30 to be on the radio.

The musical types and influences you mentioned are all correct. Up to that point no one thought that electronica music could be personal so Madonna took electronica and made it her own. This is how she did it. What Madonna is trying to convey through the lyrics and video for the song is not what you are seeing exactly but the imagery you mention is correct. It's really not just about the world and it's really not just about the rush of everyday life in a sense. What Madonna is saying is that she's been in the business or famous for 15 years at that time and she feels like it went as fast as a ray of light can travel. However, it's also referring to her metamorphosis of living consciously and that she is figuring out that she's just getting started. It represents the changes in her life both artistically and personally. She had just finished Evita the movie. She won a Golden Globe for best actress. She took vocal lessons for the first time in her life to prepare for Evita so her vocal range increased and improved immensely in a very short amount of time. She discovered that she had a entire lower register in her vocal abilities that she never used prior to the Evita Soundtrack and to this album. The vocal changes are very obvious on this album "Ray of Light" if you compare her music prior to the filming of Evita you will notice a huge difference when she sings. She is also discussing or referencing her new found motherhood. She just given birth to her daughter, Lourdes, two years before she made this album. The entire album reflects on her spiritual awakening in a sense, the changes in her approach to life for the reasons I mentioned earlier and specifically motherhood. Madonna lost her own mother at the age of five so there was always a hole in her that was never filled until she looked into her daughter's eyes for the very first time. This album shattered records everywhere and was very different than any other album she had done prior. Madonna also won five Grammys for this album. It was the first time she was ever given an Grammy award for her own music. It took 15 years, multiple albums and Evita for her to be taken seriously. Madonna has always been told by critics and people in general that she can't sing. However, as of now she has been in the business for almost 40 years and at the top of her game where none of the girls that came after her can touch her heels including men and groups as well. They're always two steps behind her. Madonna has always been ahead of her time. It is us that need to catch up to her. Good job with your reactional video. Don't worry about not catching the back story although a lot Madonna's music is personal she changes it into 3rd person and uses less specific lyrics so that it will appeal to the masses. She did just that with the entire album. Listen to album again and know she is speaking about herself. She was very open at the time about the backstory to this album. She really never opened up this much about the personal matters that inspired her music prior to this album. She only got into details when it came to songs that were making a public statement like voting, sex, teenage pregnancy, HIV, safe sex, America being so uptight with sex/sexuality but not violence to point they wouldnt and still don't air condom commercials but we can see a head shot off someone in great detail. Enjoyed it and it makes me happy to see so many of you reacting to specifically Madonna but all artists. Keep it up!
