This is one of my favorite albums...with that said I do also get a lot of his criticism too concerning some of the production choices, and lyrically there's a lot to parse through, and without those two things? Yeah it'd kinda just be by the numbers mid-2000s pop punk (that Auto tune bit during 'Nails' was great bee tee dubs)

Try the second album (Pretty Odd.) if you’re sick with the thin & annoying electronic sound + repetitive patterns of AFYCSO. Tbh AFYCSO is more like a hit or miss album. In my opinion, PO has the diversity, better sound, and lyrics overall. It has this 60s The Beatles vibes to it. Some people like it some don’t. I do like it tho. I think it’s their best album yet Maybe give it a shot?

Lemoboi Memes agreed, they were extremely influenced by the Beatles at the time, especially Ryan I suppose. That’s why I said PO has the Beatles vibe lol But I still love that album, while it’s not the most original but imo it’s the most fun album they have ever made. Plus the writings are great, i love the mood & the atmosphere. Definitely has better production overall, the sound is amazing, i love all the different instruments they used on that album. Also there are some “little” songs (I have friends in holy spaces, etc) in between “major” fast paced songs like Nine in the Afternoon, The Green Gentlemen, Mad as Rabbit. But yeah it’s my opinion

That song, I really wished they didn’t use it. If they use it for just, “speech is slurred” or something for affect not appeal. I agree, Brendons voice is somewhat annoying in some songs and obviously he was young when they recorded this and he is definitely a respectable singer now, his live vocals now are ridiculous and he can hit insane notes. There’s only like 2 songs I don’t really like on this album but overall it’s a pretty good album. If they (😬) re-recorded this album now, it would be really good. Same with MCR’s bullets album.

It’s alright you didn’t like the album. Either you love or hate this album. There really isn’t a middle ground. I acknowledge that the album is a total mess and there’s a few bad songs (Nails for breakfast). But I really do think it has it’s charm. The anxious, chaotic and sarcastic feel of the album really reflect my teenage years, and this album is exactly that. It’s a rollercoaster with fun choruses, dark guitar solos, a theatric/shallow look and critical lyrics. It perfectly portraits a certain feel and emotion. If you don’t get that, I can see how the album would be pretty pretentious. For me the album is therefore a solid 8 out of 10. I enjoyed the video as always and look forward to hearing more from you. Btw. my favorite P!ATD album is “Pretty. Odd.”. It’s a total change of pace, and I would recommend it.

Unfortunately this has less to do with your comment and more with a personal taste of mine. I actually really like Nails for Breakfast. The autotune is very purposefully overdone to instill a sort of weird and disgusted feeling in the listener. This makes sense, as the song is about taking pills

I haven't even finished watching, but you just brought out the Eminem cover and I can't stop laughing. Even with the minimal edits, it doesn't feel like a compromise in quality analytical review + entertainment. And Nails for Breakfast is a song I really like...this autotune _does_ make it nails on chalkboard, but the lyrics are literally about the lyricist's alcoholic father. Anyway, I love that you immediately picked on the theater vibe and your rating signs. Your breakdowns are interesting to hear as always. Now let me get back to you roasting my musical taste.

I've never commented before, but I have to express how much I appreciate the depth of your analyses. I subscribed when you released your "The Black Parade" review and, since then, have really enjoyed the videos you make--especially when they include so-called "emo" bands. The time and effort that you put into your videos are obvious, especially in the edits, and it really means a lot. It's very difficult to find somebody that will delve so deeply into the lyrics and instrumentals of a specific album. I understand that you didn't do that as much for this video, and I completely understand. I don't particularly care for this album myself, although I recognize that, in time, Panic! has greatly improved. I know that you're into explosive music, and I feel like you would genuinely enjoy Black Veil Brides. I know that it takes lots of time and energy to review an entire album, so I would recommend listening to "The Last One" and either "Wake Up" or "The Outsider". These are off their newest album Vale, and all of them contain awesome instrumental solos. I honestly think you would love them, and keep up the amazing work! You are the best reviewer that I have seen, and I hope you continue the awesome analysis and edits. Thanks for yet another great video!

I will say that some of the production and vocals on this album aren’t the best, but I’m more of a lyric oriented listener so I can look past that type of thing. I’d say Too Weird To Live, Too Rare To Die, does the electronic sound much better, and you might actually enjoy that album. Well, agree to disagree, still respect your opinion and hey on the bright side you might like the new album cause I’m pretty sure it’s going to be nothing like this😂

I also wanted to add, this was made when the members were all still in high school, and Ryan Ross wrote most of the lyrics and composed most of the album. The reason you like the new stuff more, is probably because you prefer Brendon Urie's writing to Ryan's. Ryan left the band after the second album, Pretty. Odd. Their second album is entirely different from anything they've ever done. If you intend to check out their whole discography, wipe away everything you know about the band. Whether or not that's a good thing? That's entirely up to you.

I dislike the industry and I really don't vibe with most popular groups but I respect the artists for what they do and I think they're all very talented people. @@henryk539 good point. People are ok with absolutely shitting on dubstep and country (mostly country) and no one bats an eye despite there being plenty of great artists in the genres. But as soon as someone even dares to criticize let alone make fun of kpop all the sudden God has come down to smite thy ass because your not allowed to make fun of kpop.. I get that kpop fans don’t like being made fun of but they do seem very comfortable making fun of other genres as well. Kpop much like country and dubstep also has some generic aspects to it which should not be free from criticism. Kpop is just like every other genre of music and if people are too sensitive that just making fun of it requires a apology, then it adds an even worse assumption about kpop fans then before (since kpop stans don’t have a great track record of being generally liked on the internet)

Have you considered the bad auto tune was on purpose? And that like the previous song it was making a really obvious statement about the state of pop music around the time it was released? Just an idea.

i feel like they could do this but still execute it better. like, they could do autotune for a bit and then stop for the rest of the song. its a statement but the message gets convoluted because jesus fucking CHRIST its sonically unbearable

"But It's Better If You Do" does lead in to "I Write Sins...", it's just I think whatever copy you had, or wherever you were streaming it from had awkward blank spaces at the very end and beginning of each song.

i think part of my problem with a lot of their songs- ESPECIALLY their early stuff- is that the lyrics feel too cluttered. if you look at songs like "there's a good reason" (etc. etc.), there are a lot of parts that feel like brendon's just trying to slam as many words into each sentence as he can to the point where the melody suffers for it.

Just a little back story for some of the songs: brendon’s ex-band mate ryan ross wrote the entire album himself. Some of the songs were written about his dad dying (nails for breakfast and camisado especially). Most of the songs were written about books, and that’s why the lyrics don’t make sense, bc he tried to fit a lot into one song. He also picked long titles because he thought it would give the songs individuality and character and it would tell a better story before listening

I've just discovered you today, so I'm late. But as a huge Panic! fan I appreciate your honesty. A lot of other review channels sugarcoat their reviews on popular things but you don't and I love it. It annoys me that a lot of people in the fandom try to defend every single thing that Brendon creates. Even he himself knows his first album was unprofessional sounding. They were just starting out and didn't really know what they were doing. I like to just pick out the songs in the album I like and skip out on the others entirely. I love listening to him sing his older songs live because he has developed his vocals enough to give the lyrics the recognition they deserve.

Panic!s albums and singing improve highly throughout their albums, and although this is one on my favourite albums to exist, there is room for improvement. I would advise listening to the albums in order, but too weird to live, too dare to die is one hell of an album
