First Look at Metropolis ARK 5 by Orchestral Tools

Музыка

In this video we take a first look at Metropolis Ark 5. At the start of the video I say we will do a sketching stream, that didn't pan out and it ended up as a more focused first look.

Love these videos. BTW at 21:03, not sure of the name of the chord, but somehow, it instantly gave me a Thomas Newman vibe.

Your whole spiel about writing in D minor is identical to what I do. Particularly, I think learning how to pull in feelings from other modes as accidentals is far easier if your mind can be focused on one key center. Then it’s easy to remember how they all relate to each other.

Think he was referencing Hans saying that in his masterclass, funny! But D minor is also the saddest of all keys! 😂

  • @DJLA

I was referencing the Hans meme but its also actually true. As butwhy said, learning a single key makes it easier to remember how it feels when you say move from the 2nd to a new key. Or modulation down two semitones mid phrase. After a while if you learn all the new techniques in the same key, like your human voice, you can feel how to apply the emotion you are hearing in your head. Lol its always so hard to explain though processes in text 😂

Cinesamples has had built in delay compensation, which does show ms that the instrument is delayed, for about 5 years I want to say.

Daniel you can actually change the default keyswitch location in the settings. Just shove em all to C-2 or something

Oh I know, I was just lamenting that because they are different I cant just copy one part to a different instrument. Sometimes you can move fast when KS are aligned like that. No big deal tho :)

Hey, guys! Could you suggest, what NI Kontakt libraries for epic drums & percussion does Daniel use? Because I can't "catch" them during Daniel's stream. I really want to find powerful epic drums, maybe, you use some kind of them. I will be grateful if you write me names of these libraries.

Damage 2 has large drums. Most composers will use multiple drum libraries. I use Damage 2 with Ferrum and I get good results.

does someone know how to regulate the sample delays in FL studio, like daniel does in cubase at 15:44 ?

  • @-Meric-

I do not believe FL has negative track delay. You may need to use a third party plugin to delay. May be wrong, but at least per a few years ago FL had no track delay. FL isn't too great workflow wise for orchestral

It's available on FL Studio, however it's found on the mixer. Towards the bottom just above the arm disk recording icon is a small clock-like icon called track latency. Click on it and you can set delay in milliseconds (there are other 2 other options in samples and beats). However worth noting that you set a positive value instead of negative to have your samples play in time with the metronome

  • @GianlucaMurru

Can anyone explain me how setting a negative value doesn't seem to affect Daniel's keyboard latency?

  • @IngoGarza

@@ekho1621 You can also do it in the VST wrapper setting -general settings (the plug and cog icon over the vst). Go to general settings and there you will find the word "Latency" with a drop down menu. Choose "Set in ms" and adjust the value after the click if you are unsure what value to set. Some libraries have it in the user manual, others in the library...others you have to guess. Say you are working with a constant delay (using Audio Imperias -125 ms for example) you can set the kontakt vst at -125 ms and then it automatically does it for every instance loaded in that kontakt. When you then route each audio channel from kontakt to the mixer it automatically sets it to -125 on the mixer channel. Obviously not so useful if you are using, say, shorts+legato on the same kontakt instance that need different latency compensation.
