    Dt360 is one of the best engines I've worked on. I've never seen one that doesn't run its always high miles/hours smokes out the vent tube and keeps on running, or it's had a Catastrophic failure, rod through the side, turbo explodes, cracked sleve, but never seen on that runs bad. And thay are easy to work on

  • @gingerauto

    That’s why after learning about them we knew we had to put it in the loadstar! And keeping it an international engine was much cooler than doing the cummins swap.

    Nice rig. I always thought it would have been more interesting if Ford had used this motor rather than the DT 444 (7.3L Powerstroke). It's a solid motor, but the 360 is more efficient with the straight 6 and easier to work, especially with the wet sleeves. Not to mention it sounds friggin' amazing.

    Love the ride, I just purchased a dt466 ,manual with split rear. Super excited to get the loadstar cab soon. What size wheels did you get? And how much of the tunnel did you have to modify? I know the 466 is larger but I’m trying to get a game plan right before I start. Any advice?

  • @gingerauto

    @gingerauto

    2 жыл бұрын

    These are 24.5 wheels. We had to cut a lot out of the firewall and build a dog box. The 466 will require a lot more cutting and will go a lot more into the cab.

    Love the truck man! Just an FYI, try not to use your hand when looking for leaks near the fuel lines. If there's a leak from the lines, the rail pressure can inject diesel into your hand and kill you if it gets to your heart or brain. Try to use a piece of paper or cardboard when checking for leaks on the injection system👍👍

    Woah that's a good tip. I know what you mean about super high pressure like that. Sometimes painters accidentally hold their hand or arm up to their high-pressure paint sprayer nozzle and inject paint right into their skin. It's absolutely disgusting what happens next. Your body takes the signal of foreign liquid in the interstissual area and just tries to kill of that whole part of your body. Your hand can die and become gangrenous VERY quickly which is a great way to get blood poisoning AND lose your hand unless you get to a doctor quick. They have to do surgery and clean out the paint inside your tissue ASAP. Diesel fuel is probably similar, even if it doesn't make it into a vein and into your bloodstream.

    Also, I was curious how you guys were able to use a timing light on a mechanically injected engine? I was always under the impression that you needed to time the pump before installing it and ensure that cyl #1 was at TDC compression before you installed the pump to make sure it was properly timed. And since a timing light senses the pulse from the spark on a gas engine, how does it work on a diesel?

  • @gingerauto

    @gingerauto

    Жыл бұрын

    I honestly don’t know how it senses the injector firing. But we hooked up the sensor to the #1 injector line and it tells you when it’s firing. You need to know where the pump is timed at. As well as where the engine is timed at as well. You can set either one of them. Or adjust them together. Decide what your desired advance number is. Example. If you want to set it to 20 degrees. And you have the pump pinned at 18 degree. You need to set the engine at 2 degrees to reach 20 combined. So you can adjust either one to reach what you want. The guy who rebuilt our injection pump told us what he pinned it at.

  • @danw1030

    @danw1030

    I believe the sensor picks up the minute flexing of the injector line when the pump builds pressure just prior to the injector popping off.
