He had to navigate a difficult path that I did not fully realize as kid under his guidance from 14 - 17 years old in the 70's. Only as I aged did I get a better understanding of the situation and the pressures (he) and we all faced as Savannah moved more and more into an integrated school systems and just... life. My group of friends still use his quotes and his setting an expectation of a standard of excellence for everyone is still apart of our lives. Thank you James Thompson....... thank you.

Excellence personified! He was a beacon of light through which the whole city could be proud of. I truly hope the bands can return to form with the support of the community, school board and administration. #BringBackTheBands

JT! When I came from another high school to start 10th grade this man took me under his wing. I recall him pulling me out and asking me to march "glide' down the filed with him to teach the others..this short one side by side this towering man. He has aged well! Great to see him, thanks for showcasing him!
