Astute viewers will note that what I say I'm going to do regarding alien search at 14:55 I don't do at 49:12. My earlier idea was better and would have resulted (perhaps) in a different outcome. Blame it on filming the vid over a long period of time. I simply forgot what I had said.

Excellent and truly enjoyable explanation and demo. Looks like lots of effort despite the seemingly simple presentation. Keep up the good work! By the way do you know this game was the kind of sequel (or more aptly younger sibling) of Yaquinto's Close Assault (about WW2 Europe) also by Craig Taylor? I haven't tried FP yet but I have CA instead. It is said that they share the same rulesets. Even the counters and tables look very much the same. I'm surprised (and amused) when you are showing the parts in the rulebook describing pre 1945 settings as it seems the FP rulebook doesn't even mention CA at all. I've seen so far only 5 short videos demoing solo play of CA also with some very interesting house rules like what you are doing here. Your scenario is inspiring and makes me start thinking of coming up with my own for CA, like infiltration missions into some German or Soviet secret facilities.

Thanks for the comment and appreciating the behind-the-scenes work. There was a lot, yes. (It's hard to simplify...) I did NOT know of this game's relation to Close Assault and thank you for letting me know. I've just had a look at that game online and yes can see the physical similarities. I'd be interested to know if the solo rules included with FP would make sense with CA. I will go back and see whether CA is mentioned in the rules and somehow I just missed it. I'd be surprised because I poured over those rules for hours trying to get them down for the video. But maybe I did miss it... Glad you found my video inspiring to work on something similar for CA. It was a fun challenge and truly not that hard. Had I just been playing for myself and not trying to prepare a video discussion, it would have been faster to do.

Stephan Beal Totally awesome boards I agree! And if you do any kind of RPGing you can use them for that. Ignore most of the charts in the game and it becomes playable. At least for me. The detail is beyond overwhelming if I try to absorb it.

Glad you found the video and are happy to see it. This is a wonderful system though as you'll see in the video I tweak it a lot, mostly because my brain can only handle so much. It really is unique though I see why you mention "Phoenix Command," which I had never heard of until your comment. That, too, looks quite ambitious in terms of what it covers. I'd like to replay "Firepower" using a whole bunch of other rules that I couldn't quite manage to incorporate here, and a different scenario and maps. The flexibility of this game gives it a lot though the rules overload requires a pretty big commitment!

Hmm I’ve played that… see why you suggest it… not really the same feel tho. Too linear both mechanically and physically. I eventually sold off my set. Wanted to but the fantasy version but the negative comments online about it, lackluster art (plus high price tag) is keeping me away.

@GeekGamers01 yes "universal" rulebook definitely did not work with Fantasy. Thankfully that ruleset has been retired and the person who wrote the NAM ruleset has now been contracted to rewrite all the Warfighter Core rulesets. I would of recommended Combat! by Compass Games, but it only covers WWII. Awesome solitaire man to man scale system.
