I never knew the heat buff from those foods went away. This game has so many niche mechanics

Using multiple thermal stones and a furnace totally negate the waiting time since you just need to swap

I agree!

Fire nettle my beloved. Its so satisfying to pop one up at winter and get nice and toasty in seconds. I cant believe the game considers it a weed and not a utility lol

It's easier to get it in my opinion then because as a weed it keeps coming back. Over and over forever if you don't dig it up. Breaks winter imo

There's also the sun fish, the ocean fish that can be only cought in summer, that gives the effect of a warm thermal stone. I can technically be an infinite heat source if you put it into The fishin' bin since it refreshes it's spoiling timer.

A little bit obvious, but tempering temperatures from wickerbottom and that-hot-fish from the ocean also can help you survive without any heat.

my personal choice for winter is chilled amulet

when dst with no fire challenge

I think it would be a cool challenge to have 5 days of autumn and then try to survive with only food

Fire nettles are unsung heroes of winter... If you arent Wormwood/you can take a little bit of damage

they need to fix temperature mechanic so it would work like in real life

Sadly no food does not affect thermals they are considering separate D: And I do need to look at summer cooling food I think they are more consistent Than these warming ones. I will take a look at them aswell! And thank you for subbing!

I think this is one of those "realistic" mechanics that make sence, but have no reason to exist in a game. I prefer simple mechanics.

What about the fire/ice fishes? I know they exist, but I have no clue on how to catch, maintain or use them. I think they are called... sunfish and ice cod? Might be totally off though

They are caught in thier respective seasons so cod in winter sunfish in summer can keep them in the tin fishing bin for ever but idk if you can feed them to stop starving.

They need to spawn first either through random seeds or fruit flies Once they spawn they will spread over time to empty farm tiles

Or just get like 3 sun fish and every time it's about to die just feed or put it back in the bin abd take out another... Its less inventory cramming and you don't even need insulation items

I did want to do a king of winter challenge where you start in winter. and have to survive without heat sources. But its pretty much impossible since setting a world to start in winter makes the world be at its coldest point when you spawn. Not even giving a chance to survive. Would have to get lucky with webber or warly potentially. webber with getting silk from his nest to sleep in a spider nest for warmth or warly with the early crockpot dishes for warmth.

@@DVGMedia1 I was thinking of the challenge being from the start of fall as usual and prepping for a cold winter. Would that be too easy though? Also would the winter start challenge still be impossible with more favourable start items like a puffy vest and beefalo hat?

Gosh darn it I will not let the the meaty stew spam away Seriously tho I think these food are too niche the amount of heat the give is very little which eccutes to standing under a tree for 15 secounds (when burning) and usually don't give too much hunger and that's the problem yeah you can use these foods or simply use a meaty stew and burn a tree to heat up honey ham for example gives a solid 75 hunger which is half of meaty stew and also requires 1.5 meat value so you might already be using some big meat which could be used to make meaty stew anyways and requires honey which is niche for people who don't set up bee boxes it's only upside is it gives 30 health aswell and it only gives 10 heat so honestly in my opinion klei should buff all of these foods to give much more heat to make them just a bit less niche

Yeah I probably won't stop using stews either lol but it is an interesting thing that exists. If you have max insulation the kebabs are perfect for it no food wasted for warming up.

It was a challenge originally. Where it was survive a winter start without fire. But it was insanely hard. Needed to be very lucky or just cheese with wortox which was not fun.
