Had the 2001 model what a blast bring back the 500 Honda never had a single problem and im a Yamaha fan but the cr500 kicked some ass

Best sounding bikes in the Finke. I loved hearing the guns rip down the track between Deep Well and Riding a and on the way as you leave the red dirt to the white hard pack there is a right hand turn followed by a gate way and Stephen Gall used to make that turn without backing off. I reckon Roe and Winter did the same. Epic. One of the nicest sounding bikes was Armstrong's 87 winner. I raced in 89 on a CR500RJ but did not finish.

2 stoke 500r, "The Monster". The 4 strokes make good power but for you new kids, you will never know the thrill of a a 500r letting lose all its power in seconds. I feel my heart racing right now. That sound makes me want to go see my girl real bad .

The CRF450 4 stroke owns this race now.. However its only because its totably tame over all conditions. Give me Randell on a CR500 and he will make most of todays riders cry on their CRF's

Still like watching this. Reminds me of the countless hours or pre-running I did from 2013-2015. The sounds are fantastic.

Awesome clip guys, paying homage to a awesome machine at an iconic race.. I race a pro class buggy, but still have a love of dirt bikes, of which the CR 500 is King.. Hats of to the rider and all invoked in making clip and doing the race.

Watching guys like Jeff Ward, Rick Johnson, and Eric Geboers racing 2 stoke 500s in the USGP at Glen Helen, was mind blowing ! To this day I have never seen bikes on an MX track going that fast and making it look easy, while the ground was shaking as they went flying by, and throwing up a roost beyond belief. I used to race a CR500 in desert, so I can assure you my observations are most accurate and not the words of some kind of foo foo teacupper lightweight grommet tosser.

@@lindalesabre They only sold a certain amout of bikes per year. It wasn't profitable enough anymore. And its no secret that Mr. Honda himself hated the 2-stroke, and wanted nothing to do with them.

I would love to race Finke again on a CR or KX500. My last and only Finke race was in 1989 on a '88 CR500RJ. I DNF'ed. After 25 years off it looks like I will be racing the 2015 race but sadly not on a 500 two stroke.

I have a '97 CR 500 and its only second over, runs great, doesnt smoke or drool, and gets better mileage than most 4 strokes or even 125 and 250 2 strokes !

I do get a bit emotional after a beer watching it. When i bought mine i remember the chaps saying have i got a death wish. I Wasn't nothing special on it. But could tell people that i ride a HONDA CR500. Sat on it with that tin tin tin sound and the bike full of vibration would give me butterflies.

My dad did Finke twice on an xr 650 and a KTM 525

The dynamics of the two stroke engine is keeping it cool..the water cooled system on these bikes are over rated a lot..this is a dry sump engine..all lubrication is coming through its fuel..most two strokes when the fail it's through ceasing from heat expansion and the big bore two strokes had problems burning pistons on the exhaust port side..four strokes have constant oil on everything with plane bearings but two strokes have roller and needle bearings to minimize friction

Absolutely nothing to do with emissions at all. There are still a plethora of two stroke crossers being made, four strokes make more money when manufactured, look it up.
