Finishing the Cylinder Square

Ғылым және технология

Finishing the Cylinder Square. In this video I perform the setup and regrind of my Cylinder Square. I didn't film the lathe work but It was completed by chucking, centering, some modifications to my steady rest and then final turning between centers. The initial grind was complicated as the center on the drive end I was using was not substantial enough for the work. Big shout out to RR in the shop (Randy Richard) for several suggestions concerning the center and inspection. The inspection side is rough and as great as I can do until I get to the point of being able to fix my mill to make other new equipment. Thank you very much for watching. Phil

That came out great! Very interesting.. I think to get it any better, you'd have to lap the base. Thanks for sharing.. i am impressed.

Good one . Usually you would shim the tailstock to get the criss cross , i am assuming that is a t&c grinder you are using . If that is the case i would look at shimming the wheal head if possible to get the criss cross then take another pass length wise . I have seen these before where the base has been segmented to 4 pads for contact . Ages ago Stefan Gotteswinter was remounting the column of his small mill also & he used some type of epoxy resin on final assy . Worth a look at . Cheers 👍

Thank you Max. It is a t&c grinder. I was so afraid of it being back out of true that i left shimming out.
