how does the density of epoxy/granite compare to actual concrete or sand filled grout?
@AlmostMachining3 ай бұрын
It is marginal in density. The composite materials provide different dampening features. Engineered concrete composites contain different materials than say a concrete mix. Epoxy can still be a little soft for large machine tools so the special concretes come into play. So it ends up being a mix of strength and vibration control. Same situation as wrapping a long tube with lead or rubber to stop chatter.

The problem I have had with bellows from that type of material is that if you do any hard turning the chips melt through as though the material was butter.

not sure why having the sliding surface on the base the same height is relevant? all you need are both surfaces to run parallel and in the same plane. a difference in height doesn't matter as your only moving in the y direction.
@AlmostMachining5 ай бұрын
It matters for how I am able to measure the surfaces. If i make the saddle top and bottom parallel then the fit remains consistent. Great question, it is mostly due to my limitations on performing the measurements
