FINISHED WOODWORK ON THE OFF GRID SMOKEHOUSE

#woodworking #diy #building
We are building an old-fashioned smokehouse for curing meat. All of the wood used for the build is sourced and milled from the land we own. Curing meat by smoke has been used for many generations and we hope to use the process for many more. The process is meant to preserve the meat without having to use refrigeration.

    Hello Richard,everytime I watch your channel you have built something else . The Smoky mountain smoke house looks great. You are good with your hands. . you remind me of solo bushcraft. He's always building little cabins out in the rain forest. You remind me of him. God gave you both good hands to work with. What a blessing.I enjoy your show. Thanks for sharing.

    Nice looking smoke house. I have a question though, assuming the siding boards are green lumber. I was under the impression that you couldn't nail close to the edge due to drying and hence splitting the boards. Thought you nailed closer to the center and put batten boards on the edges nailing between the boards to keep the edges from curling.

  • @SmokyMountainOutpost

    I haven’t put the trim on yet. I mentioned burning it and metal on roof. Has to be done before battens are installed.

    a real smokehouse, whether made of brick or wood, must be at least 3 m high. with openings, a perforated sheet is placed above the firebox so that the cold smoke dries the meat.

  • @SmokyMountainOutpost

    @SmokyMountainOutpost

    Hopefully the smoke will be cool smoke that cures the meat. Any heat will be cooled some in the ground through the pipe. And, wood on the fire will be green or wet so it will smoke and not burn
