Forgot to add that I am from Northern Michigan. We heated our house with firewood for 45 years. My grandpa bought 40 acres with mainly oak trees back in the 1930’s, so we cut our own firewood. It was a family activity.

Great video you 2. The hardest thing is warming up the cabin. We go up to our cabin and it takes a full day to get it all warmed up. Sure like seeing the old cabin. You have a great location for your solar. Putting out good. Maybe there is still hope for the grampa spruce. LOL That Tundra is like Little Griff Off Grid Alberta workhorse. Those are great sleds. Here in the far north of Canada our 60 yr cabin is a VERY old building. Isn’t that something? I travelled to Europe as a teenager. The old buildings were amazing.

Hello from here in Zephyrhills Florida where we will hit 39 degrees today so it’s not very warm here in sunny Florida either. But I’m from upstate NY and have been in -32 degree weather before which is why I now live in Florida lol. But this reminded me of growing up in NY so I just had to subscribe to your channel. I was born and raised in the Adirondack Mountains in upstate New York and had no electricity or running water ever so I can sympathize with what you’re going through to get everything up and going or warm enough to run. Northern Wisconsin has had wind chills -35 F at night during the last few days. Yesterday our high was -1F. I saw some guy get out of his car at the grocery store, wearing shorts! This seems to be the latest craze here. Some students wear shorts every day.

C&K love the channel. To funny, I put Trophy Wife in one of our videos and the wife poo pooed it. When it started playing in your video we both laughed. FYI, the colder it is the more efficient solar panels are. When designing a system wire size is determined by the coldest average temperature for that region. Panels can produce 120% more than their label. Your cabin is beautiful, love large front porch.

Georgia! That’s somewhere I’ve always wanted to go! I’d love to have a peach 🍑 from a tree. We can’t grow stone fruit where we live, it’s just to cold, the trees don’t survive the winter. Is peach pie really a thing? I’ve heard about it, and it sounds WONDERFULLY delicious.

I’m in the uk, for us it’s very cold at -3.7° I can’t possibly imagine just how cold it is in your neck of the woods! I’m afraid as a nation we’re not that great at coping with freezing temperatures and snow. Everything comes to a grinding halt with just 3 inches of snow!

Thank you!! Alabama always sounded interesting to be, I love the idea of being able to go to the Gulf anytime we want! We are a days drive to the coast and it would be a cold north coast, certainly not the Gulf of Mexico haha Thanks for taking a moment to say hello!

Awesome life, Mountain man ma self, We're in the New Mexico mountains, 7500 feet above sea level, made an air tight stove out of a 55 gallon oil barrel 6 years ago, less cutting more heat, it does get cold here but thankful not that cold, watched this with my 6 year old, we use cast iron too, made me hungry 😂😂😂 can do almost anything in cast iron! 👍

That’s a high elevation! We sit at about 2400’ here. That’s a nice big wood stove size! I love my cast iron. Cast iron pizza is one of our favourite treats! Mountain life must be amazing!

@@OffGridWithChrisandKristie Mountain life is temperamental, we live close to the end of a village but not far enough for me, sort of the Jeremiah Johnson and Grizzly Adams sort, we have ranch property up at 10,000 would prefer there, but tenuous with family, certainly prefer the company of the Deer, Ducks,Elk and a Golden eagle who roosts in the vicinity, couple of years ago my 4 year old at the time, we watched a period dinner prepared in 1820, good ol cast iron and a hearth, with tri pods and swing arms, she was amazed at how versatile that kind of kitchen cooking can do, I still have a Robert shaw gas stove, and a 40's Gibson refrigerator that still works 80 years later, 4 generations. I teach my kid what works, cause in the woods or sticks as it wer, things have to work, btw she loved the snowmobile 🤣

Good to stay active when it is cold, though it is hard.

@@OffGridWithChrisandKristie No, I hate the hot weather, it’s dreadful. I remember being a child in Adelaide South Australia and spending Christmas day looking at Christmas storybooks about snowmen, sleighs and people singing carols wrapped in fleece clothing while Santa landed on the rooftops. I thought how lucky they were as I sweated in the heat as my mum cooked roast turkey and plum pudding adding even more heat to the non-air-conditioned house. We would get 40° or 42° over January or February but Adelaide now gets 46° and northern South Australia gets high 40’s. My wife thinks I am bonkers during the summer as my KZread suggestions usually involve Siberian people from Yakutsk visiting log cabins, chopping wood, making fires and cooking stews (or videos like yours) after I have sat in the lounge with the A/C on. So you could say that I have a fascination with the cold. When I retire, I want to have a white Christmas in Helsinki or the like and my number one destination for my bucket list before I die is to visit the big “A” - That’s Antarctica, not America or Asia. (no offense to these destinations). I am not sure if I could cope with the Eastern plateau that dropped to -94°C in the 1980s but I would give it a go.

Great question! The little cabin was built in the early 70s and the rec room (the bigger cabin) was built in the early 60s by the Lutheran Church. They used it as a bible camp and retreat. I think you might be the first to comment from Illinois! So happy to have you along for the journey! And welcome to the channel, hope to see you on the next adventure

7 inches is a lot of snow! We really need some more snow up here ❄️ That’s equal to -17, and that can be super cold if you add wind and humidity to it! -40 can be bearable if the conditions are right, like in this video, sunny, no wind and dry ❤️ Take care and hope to hear from you on the next one!

Quebec looks amazing, maple trees and old architecture are two things that I wish we had more of in the north west of Canada. We’ve tried to plant and grow maple here. But it just gets to cold in the winter for them to survive. Thanks for taking a minute to say hello!

I love cold places - so pure! -- QUESTION -- Where about in Northern Canada? So many people say that term but sometimes I find that they mean north of Toronto Canada and some mean the Yukon. I am a new subscriber so I am not sure where you guys are (approximately is fine)... We love that cozy cold cabin and places like it! So fresh and clean looking.
