I just turned 60 and I am building a cabin in Alaska with my best friend. I know I will regret not doing this. It will be hard and I may only be able to do it for a few years, but I am finally living my dream. I hope to be able to do films like this in the future. Mine are mostly silly. These videos inspire me.

I agree!! It’s neat and clean…not cluttered up with plastic totes and unfinished walls/floors/windows and I love that he has an actual aluminum barn shovel!! Most times, they have a spade or a plastic shovel or a plastic BARN shovel! 😂. This guys is great all the way around!!

I do wonder why he doesn’t use his wood stove to cook on and heat water for coffee, etc. save on propane! I’m sure he has a good reason!

Now that's my idea of what a cabin should really be like in the woods. It's a lot of work but worth every bit of it. And love your sweet little dog.

This is so wonderful! Seeing you split the wood for your woodburning stove brings back a lot of happy memories for me. I am born and bred in the big city of Chicago, but when I moved to Maine 5 years ago, I stayed in a homestead with my host family. One of my room and board tasks was keeping the woodbin stocked for the 3 stoves in the 5-story house we lived in. Long story short- I lost 15 pounds in 4 months during the winter just from dealing with wood! There is no better heat than that from a woodburning stove - so warm and radiant. Love this video so much!

Not to be crude, but one of my absolute favorite f😊eelings w😊as gett😊ing out of 😊bed, standing in front of our Woodstock in my flannel nightgown and slippers, lif ting it up and scratching Mty backside. And feeling the warmth. Then making coffee and breakfast before I went out to feed and check the . I loved cooking on a wood 😊fired range. Learning to bake successfully took some time, but what a feeling of accomplishment.!!!!😊😊😊

Nice place Brother. Havent been to my cabin in about 8 years. My brothers have been my caretakers of it for me. 7600 ft above Sea level makes it hard for me to breathe without O2. Great video, thank you for sharing! I live on an island in Maine and we have 12 cords of wood, cut, split and been drying for months, lots of work, but nice to have when it is all done. Your cabin is very cozy and Norman is very cute, love him playing as you shovel out your areas. Cheers!

LOL, we take it that you don’t like the snow? My mom likes to see it on TV or in pictures, but hates to live in it. My wife and I live in a very mountainous area of north central Washington state and get 5-7 feet of snow every winter and LOVE IT !

I believe I would do there what my children and I did when we lived totally off grid (kerosene lamps only) with an out house. I fixed up a camping toilet for us in our tiny cabin. Used at night and during terrible weather.

There's Ben working his butt off to break trails to the outhouse and then we see Norman joyfully leaping all over the place. . . happy as a pig in a wallow! Having seen the other video where Ben had to get piles of snow off of the main cabin and the out buildings, I am getting concerned about the snow piling up again. Yet one more thing for him to deal with .. *sigh*
